Always friendly, always clean; just a great way to start my day!
I understand it's hot outside, but the A/C in the main workout room on the main floor never can keep up. There have been times recently when the temperature in the room is 76 degrees. It's holding steady for the afternoon classes at around 74 degrees but this seems a tad warm. I appreciate the wall mounted fans which have been recently installed but they are stationary and not oscillating so there are still several areas in the room which don't receive good air flow.
Please bring back a Friday afternoon class - a 3pm, 3:30pm, or 4pm class would be ideal!
I love the Boerne Y. The number and variety of classes, plus awesome instructors, is wonderful. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. I do sometimes feel that regular checks are not made to see if the paper towel dispensers are empty, disinfectant spray bottles need filling, Kleenex boxes are needed, etc. Of course, that may be due to a low number of staff, due to budget constraints. I was disappointed during the month of July with the Pilates Reformer program. Kiera is on maternity leave. Miryam gave early notice that she would need to be in NYC with her daughter for a special ballet program. However, no substitute instructors were found for any of Miryam's classes. I have to be at my job at 7:30am, so can only attend evening classes and on Saturdays. Miryam teaches on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, so for three Saturdays and two Tuesdays in July, there were no classes available. I feel like I did not get my $125 worth. I know things like this happen, but I hope that in the future, when advance notice is given by an instructor of an impending absence, a better plan can be put in place. Having said this in what I hope to be a constructive manner, I cannot imagine life without the Boerne Y. It is truly a friendly, welcoming place that offers something for everyone. Since I became a member of the Boerne Y many years ago, it has changed my life. My health is better and I have made some very good friends. Thank you!
The staff are friendly and willing to help. the equipment is excellent, the facilities very nice and Selma does a great job as manager! thank you
Great instructors and I love the group classes.
Add a few more classes similar to boot camp and HIIT. They are popular and if you aren’t glued to your phone to sign up you can’t get in. I only do classes, so it’s very frustrating
The main room where classes are held needs to be enlarged. If I invite others, then I might not get a spot in the classes I like at the times I like.
The atmosphere at the YMCA is much more welcoming than another gym i was previously a member of.
Opens too late on Saturday and should be open at least Sunday afternoon. Needs a pool
Great variety of classes, great instructors, clean facilities
Conveniently located, wonderful instructors
Everyone is friendly and machines are never out of order for long. The machines are great and cardio equipment makes working out easier with the tv options. I also love how I can charge my phone or headphones on the machines.
The paper towels and disinfectant are often out by the afternoon. Also, trash is usually full. The disinfectant soaks into the paper towel and is not efficient when wiping machines. Also, there should be more of them to encourage cleanliness. Pre-moistened wipes would work well.
The facility is always clean and the bathrooms are well kept. The parking lot is always clean too. I’m always impressed how this place is much cleaner than other higher end gyms I’ve been to. Great job!
I’ve been noticing some women have been wearing bikini tops and sports bras in the gym which is kind of inappropriate.
Is it possible the YMCA could have a small concession stand for drinks and some snacks. The water from the water fountain is not pleasant so the option to buy water or a sports drink would be helpful. Adding in some snacks would benefit anyone who might have low blood sugar or needs a pick me up after their workout.
I kinda wish the staff would wear name tags. I love talking to all of them but feel awkward asking their names. The staff is always so friendly and kind. They say hello with a smile when I come in and always wave goodbye. They are the reason I stay at the ymca even though it’s far from my house. I know I wouldn’t get that hospitality anywhere else.
Overall, I love this YMCA and would recommend it. It’s a great place to workout.
I love the instructors
I really enjoyed my visit.
As more members join, classes are at a max and likely hood of getting into a class is low
Clean, friendly staff, I am enjoying the Pilates reformer class which is the reason I joined.
It’s a friendly place with great teachers and many wonderful offerings.
Very good staff and customer service
Get staff and very clean facility.
Great atmosphere and people. I really like the new hydro massage chairs and coffee bar addition. Not a 10 because I wish there was a pool!
Have more games and better quality places for practice to include room for parents
The Boerne Y is a great location for me and my kids to prioritize health and wellness !
The experience has been great. We had a wonderful coach who really tried to teach and be fair to the kids. The only challenge was early practices. Nothing before 9am would be ideal!
It is extremely difficult to get spots in the reformer classes which are the sole reason I joined the Y and pay the monthly reformer fee. I am truthfully thinking about canceling though. Some of the ladies in the classes are extremely unwelcoming acting like you took their friends spot and shouldn’t be there. The instructors have always been very nice and professional though.
I’ve been to different YMCA’s before and Boerne remains my favorite. And of course, it all depends on primarily what you are looking for…racquetball, basketball, swimming, weights, cardio machines, etc.
My wife and I especially loved our instructors for their genuine care and commitment to our exercise routines. In particular Kerry (stretch/balance), Kathleen (bike/spin), Shawndra, Cheryl & Suzanne (Pilates).
I very much enjoy going to the Y and it is helping me achieve my goals. The staff is very friendly. The only issue I have is many times people will sit on the weight machines for 10-15 minutes just talking to friends and there will be a few of us waiting to get on these machines to finish our workout. I've seen it happen to others while walking on the treadmills upstairs.
Staff is very ehlpful and nice.
I love the friends I have made at the Boerne Y. The instructors are wonderful. The number of classes are amazing.
Men's locker room sometimes goes several day without shower soap even after being informed soap is needed in one or more of the showers.
The staff always greets me when I walk in and says goodbye when I leave. If someone doesn’t know something, they go and find out and let me know.
We love the Y and use it regularly but the cost feels high and having it raised without any notice or explanation that I have seen is frustrating.
Great staff. Feel like some of the equipment is getting dated. I use the rowing machine and cycling machines several times a week and have had numerous issues with them. Just feel like it is time for the "Y" to spend some money and update those specific equipment.
The monthly membership fee is on the higher side considering the Boerne YMCA doesn't have a pool and the locker room is located in a mobile unit. When I joined the Y a couple of years ago, I was told their was to be a remodel and the locker room would be moved and located in the main building. I was surprised to see turf was installed instead.
Fantastic staff that is so welcoming and friendly. Wonderful childcare that my daughters love - crafts, now outdoor play, and caretakers who really care about the kids and enjoy being with them. I appreciate them so much! The only thing that is missing is a pool with lap swimming ;)
Friendly, cleanliness, group classes, and instructors are just a few things I love about the Boerne YMCA. My whole family enjoys their time there.
Great instructors. Friendly front desk associates. Wide variety of classes.
Welcoming staff at the front desk. So often there is no one there or they are staring at their phones or chatting with other staff. Dean ( I think—early morning with long gray hair) is amazing. If others could learn from him. He seems happy to be there and so helpful. Saturday crew is good too. Light outside when it's dark. Parking lot is too dark. Signage. If I hadn't asked, I would not know where to find new hydromassage chairs. Bigger room for Pilates so could have chairs and normal Pilates set up. Too bad the portable is gone.
Facility spacious and clean. Equipment is in excellent condition and plenty of room. I love my Boerne Y. Staff is excellent. Keep up the great job.
Rowing machine Stairmaster Machine Friendly atmosphere Clean gym Mixture of young and old
Classic are full and I cannot get in the classes that I want. Especially the Silver Sneakers classes. Add more classes or increase the class size. Very frustrating!!!!!!
I love the friendly atmosphere and the classes that have become family 🩷 It's always clean and they have every piece of equipment I could ever need.
The friendliness of the staff. The cleanliness of the facility. The availability of equipment. All great.
It is clean, in good repair, and courteous workers.
The reservation system for classes is frustrating.
I go to as many cycling classes and Hiit classes as I can to prepare me for my triathlons!
Everyone is very nice and helpful. Many times in the early evening, the bottles of cleaner to wipe down equipment and the paper towels will be empty. Also, toilet paper is running super low or out in the afternoons. I wish they would offer pre-moistened wipes instead to wipe down equipment and have more access points to them. Also, more signs to wipe down equipment after each use and make sure people know to clean the equipment. Maybe have them all sign and acknowledgement when they check in.
I utilize the treadmills, weights and equipment. All are in working and in great shape. Y staff are super friendly and happy to see us there. Nice seeing the same people working out each morning of all ages.
It would benefit player development if the Refs called traveling or out of bounds occasionally and more for teaching moments. My child played in the 7-8 year old category, and I realize you can't make every call, nor do I want them too, the game would constantly be interrupted, but to continuously let players go out of bounds, or to double dribble 10 times in one possession doesn't teach the child how to correctly play basketball. I know a lot of this rests in the coaches instruction, but with a 30 min practice prior to the game doesn't allow much time to teach correct principles and this season we had three games that did not include a practice. You could instruct refs to blow the whistle a few times throughout the game to provide correction. For example, if a child never dribbles, or is constantly picking up the ball and then double dribbling it's ok to whistle and let them know they need to pass or shoot, otherwise they continue to double dribble. My son has been taught to pass or shoot if he picks up his dribble, but at the end of the season he just said " forget it!" And then began double dribbling to put himself in a better position to score, because he thought "might as well" everyone else is doing it. It's frustrating because I felt like this season I paid money for my child to enjoy "pick up games," as he was given limited instruction, and the referees really never blew the whistle or directed the games in a way that players were learning the rules of the game. I believe the Referees can play a part in this and better enhance a YMCA experience.
There is a nice variety of group exercise classes, and everything is very reasonably priced.
