The staff was very helpful and the facility was well maintained.
Very informative it is going to help kids and adults to get ready for lifeguard job
Swim coaches need to improve. A particular coach gets frustrated too quickly with students and instead of motivating them, they feel discouraged and afraid of being targeted in the group. There is a way to teach skill without being rude.
Same Swimming lessons are taught. Every time I see the same result that Breast stroke and butterfly is not accurate. In the next set of classes why isn’t the coach not focusing on breast stroke and butterfly first to correct the students. Students have the go through the free style and back stroke for majority of lessons and only in the last couple of lessons they will be taught breast stroke and butterfly and get the same feedback that they have to improve. These type of lessons will never help students to pass a stage and go to next stage. Highly demotivating !
Love the size of the pool and Master'[s Swwim program. Locker rooms need to be updated, roof needs repair (Drips into the pool on rainy days) and water pressure needs to be addressed in the lockr rooms
Swim instructors in Bridgewater and Somerville need to maintain a professional demeanor, being polite and composed at all times. Yelling or shouting at students can lead to a loss of interest in swim classes. Despite this issue being brought to the attention of the aquatic director and others, it remains unaddressed.
- Kids should be tested before sign up to make sure they are appropriate for stage level. - Outdated Bridgewater and Somerville facilities; needs major upgrade (compare to basking ridge, which is a treat) - for classes cancelled more than once due to weather, Make up should be offered. Classes are not cheap for parents.
We were informed that once my son passed the swim test and received the green tag, he would be allowed to swim independently in the lanes. Although he successfully earned his green tag, he was later denied access. This inconsistency was both misleading and disappointing, as the information we were provided was incorrect.
Very good experience. My kids love it. Teachers and staff very professional.
I do not like that students don't appear to be placed in the appropriate Stage Levels. In my daughter's current class, there is a student that is holding up everyone else up, as she clearly cannot keep up with the rest of the class, in terms of swimming and stamina. The instructor ends up taking up much of the instruction time waiting for her to finish her laps and giving her individualized attention, while the rest of the class is just waiting at the other end of the pool doing nothing. Clearly, it appears that this student should be placed a level below this current stage, but that does not appear to be happening and that is unfair to the rest of the students who are at the appropriate level. Also, my daughter complains that the pool water is very cold, compared to the Somerville location. I was never aware that the two locations would have vastly different temperatures. She literally is shaking when she gets out of the pool. Therefore, I do not think I will sign her up for more lessons here in the future.
There are not enough opportunities for the kids to participate in teams. My son was not encouraged enough even though he loved swimming and desperately wanted to be a part of the team and he did try his best to improve his strokes by being in FAST clinic for a year. But over the summer, there wasnt even any opportunity provided for the tryouts and we were told that it may not happen as there are no availability. However, from other parents we found put that their kids had an opportunity to be a part of the storm team starting this fall so not sure why were we informed that there werent any tryouts while other kids were given an opportunity to be a part of the team. Overall, it was very disappointing for my son to not have an opportunity to grow and ultimately he left the swimming classes and did not return back to FAST clinic. I was sad to see how 9 year old was not given a chance to develop his skill further and was discouraged.
Instructors are super friendly and knowledgeable. My daughter loves going to lessons with Ms Isabella.
The coach is very good and staff is very responsive.
friendly instructor, clean pool.
Friendly staff Good infrastructure Experienced coach
First day class was cancelled due to instructor occupied with a personal training as it seems issue with planning. Due to inclement weather already 2 classes cancelled or not heard about mockup. If we lost 3 classes out of 8, it's waste of money and a failure of these summer classes.
IN 30 min class - few Teachers starts class 5 minutes late. No make up classes or refund when thunderstorms/lightening Quality of training is not great
Great group of swimmers, and the coaches are very knowledgeable and supportive.
There is a need of a consistency and stable instructor for the Teens program. We experienced instructor changed 3 times over the course of Spring program.
My daughter is attending swim lessons with coach El, and we are very pleased with his approach. I have seen progress with swim techniques in my daughter, thanks to Coach EL. I totally recommend him, and will enroll my daughter in his classes.
Was on time & sent us Red Cross link to Learn before entering the class … I found it very interesting & useful . The part we had to practice ( CPR ) On dummy was very effective.
I scheduled my 5.5 year old daughter for a swim evaluation in anticipation of leaving her current swim class to join the YMCA and register her for swim lessons. Upon being called upon for the swim evaluation to begin the lady (can't remember her name) asked how old my daughter was and what he swim background was. I briefly told her that she was currently enrolled in swim lesson. So she proceeded to tell my daughter to enter the pool at the 3 ft 9 inch part of the pool and told her to swim to the flags. I could immediately see the panic on my daughters face as there were no safe way for her to enter the pool. At her current swim facility they have something in the water to assist the littles with getting in and a swim instructor is in the water with them at all times. I just told my daughter to enter carefully and hold on to the side as she currently doesnt tread water enough to help her stay above water. It shocked my that the lady assessing her didnt even enter the pool. Yes there were lifeguards on duty but how scary to think my child was just told to go in and start swimming. Once she got past the flags the instructor told her to continue swimming into the deeper end of the pool and without any guidance of knowing where she should stop she went into a panic. At this time the instructor asked if it would be better if she went to the shallow pool which my daughter said ok too. She was much more comfortable because her feet could touch the bottom. In my honest opinion this is what should have been done from the very beginning. I felt that the way the assessment was run was unsafe for a 5 year old. Thankfully she knows a bit more than the basics of swimming. This assessment was a complete waste of time and it seemed like the lady didn't even want to be there. It felt like more of a sales pitch for the lessons.
My daughters loved the classes!
Aqua zumba was fun!
My child's experience with Coach Al helped her further her skills for competitive swim. Highly recommend this coach who gives individual attention even in a group setting.
Very different skill levels of the participants. So it would be good to do some kind of skill test to ensure each participant is in the right level to maximize learning. Thanks.
Excellent facilities and very friendly staff, coaches
They are good at Training my Kid
I love our Masters Swim Program. Coaches are awesome and its a great group of swimmers. Only issue is the locker rooms. Showers are awful. Water pressure and temperature cannot handle even a few swimmers at a time. Lockers are so old and too small. We need more benches too.
Instruction method can be changed. Instructors does not get into pool and teach the kids. They just give out verbal instructions. They dont make sure if the kids are following the instruction given. I am just going with ymca just because it is close to my place and my kid get pool time. Otherwise a big no.
Ed Tsuzuki runs a very well organized, consistent program. He is very encouraging to swimmers of all abilities, and he makes the workouts fun and challenging. The pool at Bridgewater is super clean, the lanes are wide, and with 10 lanes swimmers of all different levels can enjoy a swim workout that suits them. The lifeguards are super professional and take their work seriously.
Upgrade locker rooms
Hire experienced teacher
A 40% increase in my fees is insane! I am not sure we can keep coming to the program. I am profoundly hurt by the greed in this decision. BOTH my husband and I are now paying the increase and its basically $90/ month MORE to the Y. THAT IS CRIMINAL for something that I am already paying for.
The pool is too shallow..I think they won't learn if the pool is too shallow..they will always have the option to stand up instead of swim..also 1 instructor with 6 kids is too much and she was not able to teach them anything..I went to the hunderton ymca before and they would always have 2 instructors for 6 kids.
Not getting a lot of value in the swim lessons. Lot of time wasted waiting for rotation between students. Don't feel like my daughter is learning or advancing.
Coaching is great but the price increase is not warranted. Other Y members do not get charged for taking spin or Zumba classes, why does the master's program get charged so much????
You should increase your training hours from 30 minutes to atleast 45 mins per session. Each class has 5-6 students and in 30 mins, the 1 instructor gets to spend not more than 5-10mins per student. Either you should have 2 instructors or have more hours per session. My son has been attending the Stage 1 class for the 2nd time and i dont think so he has learnt anything. Also, when you cancel a class due to weather conditions, please make sure you have make up classes.
The recent 27% increase in Masters swimming fess that was announced literally hours before credit cards were charged is simply unacceptable. There was no explanation for the significant fee increase included in the announcement. Additionally. i have since found out that there is a huge difference in fees charged depending on what time you swim. I swim two mornings a week at SHY at 6:30, and therefore pay $42. If I were to swim at 9 am, I would only pay $18. If I were a minority, I would sue you for discrimination.
Local swimming lessons
Anthony enjoyed learned a new style, he loved swimming in Bridgwater.
Instructor was very calm and clear, she really knew her job. She taught the kids swim technique very nicely. Thanks for having such a progressive staff!
My granddaughter was greeted by the instructors with enthusiasm. The class was small which gave her more instruction time. I feel confident that she can move up to the next swim class level.
Good program
My son missed a class and YMCA does not allow for make-up classes. However, when the instructor cancels, they provide a make-up class so they do not have to pro-rate the class with a reimbursement.
Other than Masters workouts under Ed.....I don't imagine most swimmers would stay at the YMCA
Love the masters swim program and the bridgewater lifeguards!!
Great teachers! My daughter had a bad experience in the past with a teacher that yelled at her all the time. We were worried that it will be a problem with a new teacher at YMCA, but it wasn't, she loves going to her swim class at YMCA! And she is learning fast!
Ed T is the best!
The teacher was often late. The teacher never went into the water to teach just walking back and forth the side of pool which meant no individual mentoring on what can be approved. My son, just swam back and forth without feedback to improve his skill. The water at Bridgewater is always too cold which caused my son to be too cold to swim as the group had to wait in the water until everyone completed a certain exercise. Every week was the same exercise that made my son not motivated and made swimming not interesting. We had the same teacher several time and we purposely change sessions to avoid her so knowing the teacher when signing up the class would help as we would have avoided signing him up with this teacher and perhaps have a better experience as we did have good teachers in the past.
