Everyone at the ymca is so friendly
I go to this ymca because it is close to my house. I like to swim and also use the fitness center. The pool is not well maintained and is often broken / randomly closed / or cloudy. The showers are in bad condition and the drains don’t work - many of the soap dispensers and towel hooks are broken. The suit spinner is usually broken or malfunctions. The weight room is nicer than the pool, but rules aren’t in-forced (like not dropping weights) and maintenance is slow (like the water fountain and treadmills). I travel for work and go to Ys all across the US and NC - this one is in the worst condition of any that I have visited and many of the other Ys I’ve seen are in older facilities.
Unattended teenagers that take up the equipment by sitting and socializing for 30+ minutes without using it, yell over their headphones, don't follow basic gym etiquette. Barefoot or adults only wearing socks in the weight area and on machines. It's never addressed by staff if anyone is even in the wellness center to begin with.
An adult man filming me and having a teenager film me and then harassing me when I asked him not to. This was brought to the staff's attention but he continues to stare me down in the gym making me uncomfortable every week. I like the gym when these things aren't happening which is less than half the time, so unfortunately 5/10.
The locker rooms and showers need to be much cleaner and the showers need to drain properly which they do not. The curtains on the showers need to slide instead of sticking. And the mold on things needs to be cleaned off. There is no reason for the place to be filthy.
The guests and staff are friendly and supportive, however the building is definitely showing its age and is in need of improvements.
Mostly I swim at the Bryan Y. The lap pool is wonderful and I can always get a lane! However, the steam room in the women's locker room has been out of service for several months with no indication when it will be repaired. I have also spent about a year taking Body Pump classes on Saturday mornings. The equipment is extremely old and honestly pretty gross. I've switched to taking those classes at Spears. It makes me sad because I really do like the Bryan Y.
The instructors are priceless. The friends you make at YMCA are also priceless.
I am really enjoying it so much making new great friends and having fun in workout classes and doing other things for fun.
Still waiting for someone to go thru the machine and what we how to achieve at the Y.
Please do more pop up pickleball events on Saturday.

Like the epiqment that you have in the gym
Very helpful and friendly people!
The main weight rack has been missing a 60 lb dumbbell for several weeks now and hallway family locker 19 is continuously full despite saying "Day use only".
It is a great bargain and a wonderful experience
The prices are reasonable, especially since I don't have annual fees like many of the budget gyms do with as many or more facilities. The crowd of the gym also feels non-judgmental and the environment feels stress-free.
The center I like the facility I like the fact that it's centrally located however there are so many facilities that are newly built and are larger
It's an older building although it has most of the facilities you would like. When repairs are needed it often takes a long time, ie, sauna, faucets, curtains, etc, and locker room maintenance could be improved.
However, it has a very vast list of programs and options, the staff is friendly, and just a wonderful world of socialization for all ages.
You did not disappoint. I do not have any family members who could enroll in Bryan Y Aquatics
Amanda is attentive and knowledgeable. She cares about the needs of her clients. She's the best.
I have had a personal trainer for about 3 yrs. It is a phenomenal bargain and a great experience that I am sure has extended my life expectancy. My trainer takes great care of me and shows serious concern for my wellbeing.
Cheer camp was fantastic!!! Can't wait til next year. Wish there was a year-round activity!!!
Very nice facility clean great programs quality instructors and very knowledgeable staff
The people at the front desk always greet me so nicely.
Great value for your recreation dollar, so many fine and unique programs
The Pool was not very kid friendly for younger kids.. and the changing rooms were extremely outdated and somewhat oxidated.. needs a lot of upgrade… we just went for the pool… I don’t really have an opinion on the rest of the place..
Unfriendly staff. Typical Gen x lack of warmth and engagement. Please understand this is not everybody. There are a few staff members who are very friendly.
We like to scheduling game locations
Coaches
The staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. I appreciate the maintenance of the facility.
Update the online schedule immediately when changes occur in a class schedule and make the front desk aware of all such changes in a timely way so that (1) the front desk knows if a class is going to be held and can properly advise members when they call with questions and (2) members don't show up expecting to attend a class with an instructor only to wait awhile, determine the instructor isn't going to be there, and have to go in search of a Y employee to assist members in setting up a remote workout. Also, clean the floors in the workout rooms more frequently.
Room for improvement: I went to this gym to attend a group class and there was no staff in the room to teach the course even though the app showed that the class was not cancelled. After waiting with another person to see if the staff member was late no one else arrived. After talking to several staff members someone finally offered to put on a video for us to follow. I do not regularly attend this gym so I do not know if this regularly happens. The staff that put the video on was friendly but not knowledgeable about what equipment was needed to do the class. After the staff member left us the video started and told us what equipment we needed but flashed too quickly without time to collect the equipment. We didn’t have access to a remote to pause the video.
Pop up pickleball play opened but closed early . I had to practice only using wall as everyone left and not even court available
Personally greeted at desk. Great class instructors. Feels like a kind safe place.
The staff was quite friendly and helpful!
I attend both Spears and Bryan Y's and I feel like I am living in a ******* novel because of the Tale of two community YMCA locations. One is well funded, with new matts, Body pump weights a plenty, etc, and the other struggles to keep the excercise room open because of a leaky roof, no AC, no heat or equipment that has gone well beyond its use by date, but has soul. The latest indignity is the extreme reduction in Body Pump classes to the point my family has started to question whether the membership still has value for us.
I love the "vibe" at Bryan YMCA. It is a fun place to hang out and work out. The equipment is generally in good shape, and the staff is friendly.
Facility was overall nice pool/ hot tub a plus. Locker seemed clean until I saw a very large dead ********* in the walkway going to the pool.
The outdoor pool is lively and active! Slides and pool is shallow enough at 4ft. deep, making it easy to have a good time!
You have friendly people to help others.
Love the lap pool (great temp) and ladies locker room...quiet, clean facility!
Open at 0600 Saturdays.
Our experience with the swim instructors has been fantastic! However, we were disappointed that when two of the six classes were canceled and rescheduled for a holiday week which we were out of town, that we weren’t allowed to get credited for another month. The swim lessons are quite expensive and it was tough to know that we were out $100- we were unaware of that policy before we signed up. Karen was incredibly kind about it and explained the situation very graciously.
I find that I enjoy interacting with other members. It’s close to home. I like the room w machines and weights, tje classes.
I wish that staff could be a little friendlier. They are helpful when I have a question but dont always seem very approachable- the desk staff.
Friendly, helpful staff. Convenient for me. Good selection of exercise options. I take the Tai Chi classes and enjoy them very much.
Great for laps swimming because there’s a dedicated lap pool which usually has plenty of lanes available and it’s not overly warm.
Coaches were fun, challenging, and made me a better swimmer.
The coaches are wonderful. Katie and Scott are amazing!
I love the Y community in general. I came in to swim because my normal Y pool is having mechanical issue (again!) and was welcomed as a regular member. I love that there are 8 lanes for lap swim and (I assume) classes are held in a separate pool. It does feel like the bottom of the pool could use a freshen but that’s my only tiny complaint.
The open gym and the people there
