Since the classes were combined the class is over crowded. There are too many in the class to move freely. The instructor has had to change several of our programs and drop some due to the crowding. I’ve been with your program since 2018 and this is the 1st time I would not recommend the class to a friend. Kim King is a great instructor and the primary reason I’m still in the class. Please change the schedule back to two separate classes. DBWilkins.
I like how the age group my son is in isn’t so spread apart like other sports organizations. Meaning an 8 year old isn’t playing against possible 10 or 11 year olds. It is also not ultra competitive for kids just learning the basics. One thing I will criticize is the lack of communication. Our team didn’t know what field we were on and delayed the start of the game. It also seemed like we were the only team without jerseys which was disappointing. Again, I know it was the first game and there are going to be things to fix, but communication is key.
Perfect for lap swimming , cardio and weight loss. Super clean facility, fantastic lifeguard staff. And helpful
I enjoyed the water aerobics.
The ymca had some schedule issues but the communication was not good. And accessibility to the changing rooms could have been better
The Cycle Studio is not often set up for the Virtual Classes. Often I have to ask at the desk to get them to start the class.
Walker makes that location worth going to and the reason I would recommend this Y. I do wish all folks that work there would take the time to say hello when you check in like he does.
Most others dont even lift heir heads from their phone.
There is a big need for additional pump instructors. Tired of classes being cancelled because there isn’t an instructor. This has become a real issue since the departure of Margaret.
I’ve been coming here for a year now and the steam room has been “temporarily” down for that entire time. I wish it was operating!
1. Items in disrepair sometimes take weeks or months to be remedied:
Donkey kick machine in weight room in corner
Left TV in weight room
Teen fitness certification wristbands not available
2. The new “GOJO” brand soap in men’s shower is really bad and requires many more dispenses to actually shower than what was previously available
Bathrooms are atrocious, all of the following do NOT work: water fountains, toilets, urinals, sinks, toilet paper dispensers. Locker doors are cut in the lock loop or do not close. I personally dusted the top of about 10 as they had never seen a dust rag. TVs dont work. Need to be bigger TVs with audio capability via bluetooth and no SAP. Hallways leading to pool seldom get moped. Many weight machines have recently been repaired but notoriously will be back out of service soon. One chest press drops a 5lb supplemental weight upon first lift. Not enough dumbells on both bell racks. If the big rack has all of the 20, 25, 30 pounds then the smaller rack will have none. Not enough space in front of big rack so the smaller rack should make a good alternative and be stocked. One of my friends drives out of his way to Spears so as not to go to Bryan. Just not the Y it use to be. I have belonged, consistently, since before the move from Downtown Y to Bryan Y.
bathrooms and gym equipment are in severe need of updating
The Y is great place for people of all ages. No matter what a person’s physical fitness capabilities are. The Y offers exercise programs that fits your needs.
Friendly, community exercise for people of all ages, races, sizes, and fitness levels!!!
excellent gym!
Have everything on one level; stay open later, more smiling faces.
The facility is not very clean. There is also constant maintenance issues happening and sometime they take longer than expected.
We are leaving the Y and I just pulled a flea off of my husband’s face…. We don’t have fleas at our house. Probably not going to come to this location for a while…
The locker rooms continue to be a mess. Filthy shower, toilets not working. There seems to be a hangout in the early morning hours with the homeless. Serious health concerns, security risks, and overall poor conditions. I know many feel this way the conversation around this is strong in the mornings. However, myself and others have flagged concerns but nothing ever happens. The google reviews are ignored or disputed with false claims. If it was not illegal to take photos of the conditions I would but sadly it is against the law and for good reason. I would not appreciate anyone taking this action in the locker rooms. So keep sending out your surveys and keep ignoring the issues. If you really cared there would be an intervention of these issues. Sad state, but I have no choice to keep using it as my kids are in the swim program.
I’ve always supported the y as a positive force in our community. The Bryan has aged quickly and could use some significant updating
people sit on machines and play w phones. or sometimes leave a water botttle as if to reserve a machine. i've said this several times before. otherwise, very good.
I only go to the Bryan Y for the group exercise, specifically Alex's Zumba on Friday nights. I used to go to BodyCombat on Sundays, which was my FAVORITE class, until it fell off the schedule when John left. I heard that would be replaced with another instructor, but that never happened. The primary reason I don't use the Bryan branch any other times is the recurring HVAC issues - using the treadmill or elipticals in the Fitness room can be uncomfortable. It has been better in recent times, but with Alex taking time off, I didn't have much reason to be at Bryan.
Straightforward gym, user friendly as a first time user, great location
It’s a great place!!!
Classes are routinely cancelled.
I love the Y. Best gym for the $
Cleanliness of locker room. Ick!
Maintenance of the entire facility needs to improve. Steam room, showers, broken toilets, and the list goes on
I would like the heavy weights to be moved away from the shared wall with the yoga studio so we do not hear grunts and weights slamming on the floor during yoga class.
Keep hand sanitizers working.
Put signs up reminding people to wipe down equipment. Treadmills need work.
When members log a complaint about a staff there is no follow up from management. So why would my opinion matter?
The workout area is nice. But you guys are absolutely terrible at making the classes work on time or at all. The Body Pump class has been canceled dozens of times and even the digital version typically doesn't work.
You guys need to work on improving your operations making sure if you're going to schedule a class it actually happens on time
There are very few exercise class offerings.
I like the atmosphere at this location. Also the staff is friendly and very helpful.
Multiple lessons were canceled due to the weather and they only made up 10 minutes.
Just the age of the facility and the distance is too far, a pool in the area near whitsett would be ideal
Improvement needed in the following areas:
Notifications when classes are canceled
Virtual class prep: all staff should be knowledgeable and virtual classes should be loaded without being asked
The lockers room…always a leak. Why are all those lockers reserved? Furniture upstairs is disgusting
The Y is a perfect example of disparity. Spears demographic would never tolerate the state of the Bryan Y. As a result, they have more instructors, better offerings, equipment and facilities.
Everyone at the ymca is so friendly
I go to this ymca because it is close to my house. I like to swim and also use the fitness center. The pool is not well maintained and is often broken / randomly closed / or cloudy. The showers are in bad condition and the drains don’t work - many of the soap dispensers and towel hooks are broken. The suit spinner is usually broken or malfunctions. The weight room is nicer than the pool, but rules aren’t in-forced (like not dropping weights) and maintenance is slow (like the water fountain and treadmills). I travel for work and go to Ys all across the US and NC - this one is in the worst condition of any that I have visited and many of the other Ys I’ve seen are in older facilities.
Unattended teenagers that take up the equipment by sitting and socializing for 30+ minutes without using it, yell over their headphones, don't follow basic gym etiquette. Barefoot or adults only wearing socks in the weight area and on machines. It's never addressed by staff if anyone is even in the wellness center to begin with.
An adult man filming me and having a teenager film me and then harassing me when I asked him not to. This was brought to the staff's attention but he continues to stare me down in the gym making me uncomfortable every week. I like the gym when these things aren't happening which is less than half the time, so unfortunately 5/10.
The locker rooms and showers need to be much cleaner and the showers need to drain properly which they do not. The curtains on the showers need to slide instead of sticking. And the mold on things needs to be cleaned off. There is no reason for the place to be filthy.
The guests and staff are friendly and supportive, however the building is definitely showing its age and is in need of improvements.
Mostly I swim at the Bryan Y. The lap pool is wonderful and I can always get a lane! However, the steam room in the women's locker room has been out of service for several months with no indication when it will be repaired. I have also spent about a year taking Body Pump classes on Saturday mornings. The equipment is extremely old and honestly pretty gross. I've switched to taking those classes at Spears. It makes me sad because I really do like the Bryan Y.
The instructors are priceless. The friends you make at YMCA are also priceless.
I am really enjoying it so much making new great friends and having fun in workout classes and doing other things for fun.
Still waiting for someone to go thru the machine and what we how to achieve at the Y.
Please do more pop up pickleball events on Saturday.

Like the epiqment that you have in the gym
Very helpful and friendly people!
