There are coaches that have the best kids from other teams play with their team mid-season just to stack their team (and boost their ego) even though they are not on the roster. Sports director allows kids to play on multiple teams within the same age division even though it’s against the YMCA bylaws. Coaches yell at the kids on opposing teams during games that they can not dribble in an attempt to to throw them off mentally. When trying to bring up concerns, the sports director avoids all interactions by hiding in his office and not returning emails.
We love the Y, but often we will show up to first practice and either our team or another team has no coach. I understand people need to volunteer, but I also think that the Y should have someone available to coach if no one volunteers, so players and parents aren't left wondering what's going to happen to the team without a coach. Since parents pay the Y for their kids to play, the Y should assist with a coach if no parents should volunteer.
The gym at the elementary school is not a proper gym for the kids to learn basketball. If it’s not going to be in a real gym at the actual YMCA or equal, we will go elsewhere.
I guess it's a case of you get what you pay for. I realize that the sports are very reasonably priced for a good reason. Our coaching experience has left a lot to be desired. My child has had 3 coaches. The first one was just a parent who stepped up at the last minute, so that wasn't a great experience - but she was able to play because that parent stepped up, so that was good. The next coach wasn't there half the time, and when she was there, she didn't really give the girls the feedback they needed - positive or negative. Her last coach was excellent. If we play again, we hope she is coaching so we can request her.
Very rude and inconsistent referees for volleyball.
It was a great introductory team for my son to learn fundamentals and make some new friends.
It would've been nice to know ahead of time, that a coach was still needed for sports instead of being unprepared and pressured into volunteering.
Your not teaching anything to the kids but failure. Putting 2 years older kids against 2 years younger kids is only showing failure.. I wouldnt recommend this opportunity to younger kids.
Clean friendly environment. My kids love coming here
easy to recommend because registration is simple, the organization is well-run, and games are managed by respectful umpires and referees. Most importantly, the program emphasizes sportsmanship and quality gameplay, creating a positive experience for both kids and families.
Coach is very nice but has been absent a couple of times. There was a scoring discrepancy at the last game at 1000 Oaks where the guys keeping score gave one of our points to the other team and neither coach noticed. We were losing so badly anyway that I didn't mention it, but coaches should've noticed.
I enjoy the coaching staff. They're very encouraging for these kids. My son had never played baseball before at 12 was kind of intimidated, but these coaches are there to build up their self-esteem and improve their skills.
Very unorganized. If there's no volunteers then the organization should provide a "coach"
As for the basketball league, the league is very inconsistent with calls. We teach our children the fundamentals and when they play the game, the basic fundamentals aren’t being upheld. How are the children supposed to learn when calls are optional? These children are 8. We were told the refs are learning. We pay $200 for this league and risk our children getting hurt because of inexperienced refs. That is not the correct response. The refs should have basic knowledge of the game, help the children learn and not be there only to collect a small paycheck.
There are no chairs provided on the volleyball side of the gym on practice days. If you sit in a chair that happens to be available the “sports staff” will tell you that you need to move even if they aren’t utilizing it. If you want to sit, you need to bring your own lawn chair to use even though there is a stocked closet with seating available. Schedules aren’t always accurate to the actual game times and you have to jump through hoops to get your child’s schedules if it was sent to a different parent on the same account. If you aren’t not listed as “primary” they refuse to provide you the information, even when you can prove you are on the family account and that child’s parent.
YMCA does a good job of offering and coordinating youth activities to learn from.
First year with the YMCA program. Things seem unorganized at times. Not having a coach for games puts parents in charge when they should be watching their children play and interact. If there isn’t a sufficient amount of staff for the sports then it shouldn’t be offered unless there’s a guaranteed coach. Make sure the fields are kept up prior to the games. Coaches telling kids to stand on a line that isn’t there confuses them.
Peyton Loves playing Tball. She loves seeing friends from her class on opposing teams, they hugged before the game. She definetly wants to play again. All this is because the organization is very well operated, great communication in place and the professionalism of the organization makes the experience very successful. Thank You!
Excellent staff in our experience with the YMCA.
My daughter had fun and that's a plus.
It's my daughter's first time playing volleyball & coach Autumn is very knowledgeable & great with the girls on the team.
Coach Rob with the Tigers baseball team was fantastic! My daughter learned the fundamentals of baseball and got to experience the joys of being on a team. I'm so thankful that we signed her up and can't wait to register her for the next season.
Program was well organized, staff was professional and help my children in their sport journey.
Only one referee was doing his job. The others weren't doing anything, they were even sitting on the floor while the kids were playing. The rules weren't well established either. Each referee had different rules, which caused every game to be different.
Practicing twice each week instead of once would be best
