Staff and equipment are first class and advice always available. A healthy and safe environment for all ages.
I like the people and the mission of the YMCA. I think it is a great organization.
The class schedule for the evenings (the only time I can go) is very repetitive. I love the Reps FX class but can only go on work holidays. I’m tired of Zumba and Yoga. Would love a better mix.
Also, the bathroom is sometime a little gross.
I’d like to see some Hammer Strength style machines included for upper body. Also. Being open later (until at least 6 pm) on Sunday’s would be appreciated.
People very kind and ready to help
My location’s hours are too limited. 10 pm closing time would be ideal.
I like the variety of classes! Instructors, staff are great!
Great atmosphere, excellent availability of equipment, and convenient to my work.
Very clean and great people
I like the classes, the instructor's are very good at what they do. I also like the staff they are very nice and always willing to answer questions and help out.
It is very conveniently located, close to my work. The facility is neat and clean. The facility is not intimidating - I think this is because the clientele is diverse in age, fitness level, etc.
The family friendly atmosphere, gym is clean and pleasant.
Occasionally it feels warm on the gym floor. What about turning on the AC and maybe playing music? Are there any plans to build an indoor basketball, volleyball court?
The facility on the main floor is dirty and dingy. The carpet needs an in depth steam cleaning. In the back red room, things have improved with the Athletic trainers still leaves a lot to be desired. Noisy, loud dropping weights without cause. Seems more to impress their clients then show proper technique. They sometimes come in and take over all the racks, leaving none for others to use. I don’t understand why they have a key to the back door. The door should not be propped open. That is a security issue. If they need to move equipment outside fine……then close the door. The red room upper pipes and ledges need to be cleaned. Looks like years of accumulation.
I enjoy the classes but I do miss Atasha (instructor). Sometimes the classes do seem a bit clickish.
Would be a 10 with basketball courts!
friendly staff, clean, lots of gym equipment, I can use my membership out of town.
I would like a sauna added to the gym. I think the rock wall is not utilized, and there are other amenities that would suit the community better.
Every year yall charge raise the price by $2 yet the gym is pretty dirty. The restrooms are always dirty, the machines have a lot of dust on them. The fans on the treadmills that have fans have so much dust in them. That’s my main complaint
Seems geared to retired/older folks and families with young kids.
I love the Y now that y'all brought back good classes. I don't see myself leaving with these new classes in place at all locations
Increased pricing no email stating so. Service has not changed limited weekend hours. Does not justify price increases.
It's a great place to use machines, but needs some more amenities to make up for the lack of a pool, pickleball courts, etc. Sauna and cold plunge would be a possibility. Not sure you could fit in a half court in the lobby? Lots of wasted space.
The availability of hours, large space, other smaller areas to workout. Plenty of equipment. Shower access. Counter space for appliances.
I love the variety and times of classes.
Several of the elliptical and treadmill TVs often don’t work which is super frustrating. And the stair steps used to have TVs but with the renovation and new equipment a few years ago, now they don’t have TVs so I don’t
use stair step machines anymore. It was a favorite cardio activity.
You continue not to offer any programming for kids. This makes my family membership more like an individual membership because my daughter has nothing to do at DR Semmes
It’s a great Y! I love the classes and the instructors. I always feel welcome and the staff are friendly.
Very nice clean building and equipment.
Faciliity does not offer basketball, swimming, or many weekend tech hub hours
The staff is professional and courteous. I always feel welcome. The Y welcomes people of all fitness levels and walks of life. I especially like that. One issue that I know is not just specific to the Y, is the increasing number of people that are on their phones, and sometimes on speaker phone, while in the workout area. It's very distracting and rude. There used to be signs saying no cell phone calls/please take your calls to the lobby area. The other issue is kids under 15 on machines and excercise equipment. 2 weeks ago I saw one little boy thrown off of the treadmill because he was playing on it without adult supervision. That could have easily been a much worse incident that involved liability of the YMCA. I don't really see Y staff walking around making sure that rules are being followed or that there aren't any issues. I can see that staffing has been cut, but maybe you could enact this practice again.
We need new treadmills. I was recently on vacation and the equipment in the hotel gym was so much nicer it made my realize how old our equipment is.
The facility is large, open, clean, with a variety of equipment and clean locker rooms/restrooms.
Sometimes the floor is dirty or sticky. I wish there were more mat or barre pilates classes.
The staff does not enforce rules, and i have never gotten a reply from either these surveys or the executive director
Excellent workout classes led by excellent instructors.
Overall, I love the Y! However, I have two issues. One is the cost. Compared to other gyms, it is quite pricey. I am an educator and a single mom, so it is a bit taxing. I stay because of the community. The other issue is that it doesn't seem as though rules are enforced. I frequently see people working out in sandles, girls who are not wearing shirts, only sports bras (some of which aren't any bigger than a string bikini top), and little kiddos out among the weights. Recently, a man brought his dog with him. Mind you, this was not a service animal. The dog was loose, running around in the gym area while the guy worked out. This seems like a major liability and a nuisance. The rules posted in the gym are great, but only if they are enforced.
The dr semmes YMCA is an okay sized but gets packed. The other YMCAs in the area are way too small. The D R Semmes YMCA is missing: pool, sauna, concept 2 rowing machines (the stair master ones are trash only buy concept 2 rowers). In all honesty the open gym area probably needs to be about 25% larger, it can get difficult to move around.
I really love the Pilates reformer classes. The instructors are excellent and it has been fun getting to know my fellow classmates.
This Y makes you feel like you are going to a family gathering when you attend a class.
What keeps it from being a 10 is the lack of pool. I know it's not your fault, but would love to be able to swim there as well. Thanks!
I enjoy everything about the gym. My only qualm is I wish the facility was slightly larger (it can get quite crowded) and more strength training (e.g., Body Pump) classes on Wednesday and Monday afternoon/evenings.
I like pretty much everything about this place.
Love the Pilates instructors
Group classes & activities for all ages.
Proximity to work
I enjoy the variety of classes that are offered. Zumba, yoga, Pilates and spin. The instructors are great and very motivating.
Child care is incredibly helpful. The overall energy and organization of DR Semmes is superb. We love everything.
Yoga and stretch classes. Wish there were more - especially stretch and restore with Pi
Zumba!! Especially Dawn's classes.
