We really disappointed in the registration and enrollment process. We need more clear communication on when registration takes place. In the past, we would receive an email but this past session we never received any communication and missed the registration. Automatic registration would be appreciated!!
Not enough actual swimming time during the class. The instructor only watched my child for about 30-40% of the time while they swam due to having to monitor the other students in the class who were not behaving. Very little constructive instruction. Will not do group lesson again.
The process of registration for swim class is very disappointing. My kids were promoted from youth stage 3 to stage 4 and I was told that I cannot do pre-registration for next session while pre-registration can only be done if you stay in same stage, same day and time for next session. I was asked to register during open registration day while Majority of spots were already filled with pre registration. Spots were full on the day of registration. My kids have been taking swim classes for - 1 year and now I have to go to ymca in B'ville for next session. We live in Manlius. Either it should be open registration for all or at least option of preregistration for next session should be given to kids who are already enrolled in swim class even if they are promoted to next stage.
Wonderful learning environment! Great instructors….very helpful!
Friendly staff, convenience, my daughter loves her classes
Great place and trainers!
We like the friendly teachers and the consistency of the lessons. Thank you.
Only thing that would be nice to have added is two sessions per week for beginning swimmers. However, I recognize there is resource and scheduling limitations. Still program is meeting objectives. One comment that is worth mentioning I have an autistic child that I am trying to engage with swimming. Assessors should inquire if there are unique methods to avoid. Our child was nudged into the pool and into my arms. That was not the right approach for the child causing them to freak out. I will work with them more individually to overcome their fear of the water.
My grandson is supported through a medicaid waiver in a group class. This last session it seemed as it there was less swimming instruction and more jumping in the water stuff. I don't know how to teach swimming, so my impression may not be valid. It just seemed that the previous session was more focused on skills. The private lessons were wonderful. Lida worked very well with my other grandson and he made a lot of progress in areas that were challenging for him. The new format doesn't work well for our family -- I miss the extended time for makeups there used to be under the old private system. Quality of the private lessons have been excellent and I would highly recommend the quality of instruction to a friend.
Warmer pool Kids dont want to go and swim
Open the aquatics center more frequently. More 4pm-7pm on weekdays.
Great instructors and convenient location.
Most friends have told me the cost of swim lessons on top of the higher family membership rates just isn't worth it.
The on deck registration requirement continues to be frustrating for families with multiple children. There is the added stressor of potentially being unable to get multiple children in class times remotely close together. Payment is difficult for this registration process as well, it was not taken at registration time, making payment overdue and I was unable to complete the action online for some reason that was never resolved, had to call in to remit payment. The additional cost on top of membership costs, makes the need to be present on the last day of classes or risk losing your spot frustrating as well
Clean facility and wonderful staff.
Mopping up the pool deck so there aren't large puddles.
I had my kids in several swim classes in the past year and it feels like we are no closer to getting a 4 year old and a 6 years actually swimming. I think the instructors are great. The program offers a lot of options for times and days. However, I just wish I was seeing more progress with my kids swimming abilities. I don't know if it is my kids or if there is something else?
Accommodating schedules for families with working parents, friendly and enthusiastic instructors.
The instructors are amazing and the atmosphere is supportive and encouraging.
Would like to see more consistency in instructors; every week there seems to be a different instructor which makes it difficult for younger children to feel comfortable in the water.
Hire more lifeguards or train them, recruit from local swim teams, recruit older adult swimmers to become guards. We would really love the kids pool and slide to be open more often because it's such a beautiful facility and our kids love it but often can't use it.
Staffing shortages seem to be an issue. We don't always have the same instructor and sometimes classes have been doubled up. Sometimes instructors don't seem entirely comfortable with the age group they're asked to cover for on a given day. We're happy that the lessons are offered and our children are getting something out of it, but it's probably not worth the money we're paying for it when we're not getting a consistent, high quality experience like we used to. We get it and despite everything we're happy that the kids can get more time in the water, but it would be hard to recommend the program to someone new without explaining all of these issues to them. After our current session, we're planning on taking a break with the lessons in the hopes that when we sign up again things will be better.
My daughter loves her instructor and loves to swim!
Nice instructors Clean pool
The instructor started splashing my 2 year old in the face as soon as he was in the pool, even though she could see he was already nervous. It was extremely hectic. He was very upset and we ended up leaving class early. That was the only lesson we went to as he now cries when we tried to bring him again.
Great opportunity for kids to learn to swim. Only complaint is that swim instructor changes weekly, some do a great job, others, not so much.
Teachers work hard to help the kids to learn.
Reduce the cost of swim lessons, add sibling discounts, make them part of the family membership again like they used to be. Activity pool open during swim lessons so that those not in a class can practice their skills. More pool availability in general for children to practice their skills between their swim lessons. Therapy pool should not have children jumping in it when elderly and others with mobility issues are using it.
More options for classes. Staff is nice, but some don't seem to have good control over their classes. Our goal is for our children to be learning skills, not just splashing in the water with friends while the instructor is barely paying attention to them.
Very good instruction! The number of students per class is small, which is terrific!
Would love to be able to check the schedule on your website.
Attentive, considerate and patient. No judgement
The sign up system. And the availability of lessons. I wouldn't recommend to others
Instituting removal from priority registration if the last class of the cycle is arbitrary, reinforcing illness to be spread. Having members that already pay for family memberships, having to pay additionally for swim lessons, and then being punished should their child fall ill is upsetting to say the least.
Feedback from swim instructors on how child is doing at current level would be helpful, as well as which level they recommend the child enroll in for the subsequent session a week or two before sign-ups. Sometimes it does not feel like some of the life guards are paying attention, and are having side conversations with the swim instructors.
The teacher was great!
Finding more people to teach the swimming classes. As well as more lifeguards to be able to open up the children's activity pool more during open swim.
Instructors are excellent - my only regret that classes are only once a week.
Some of the Swim Instructers are great. Others are not challenging the kids enough to help them advance their skills.
It is dated and could use some touch ups. I would like more hours for activity pool. Also few ties recently activity pool hours were cancelled d/t staffing, so maybe try to attract more employees.
Instructors are very professional and patient.
Swimming lessons used to be free
Open swim and kids splash area open more. I pay a lot for my membership and with also paying for swim lessons but there's not much time open to use the other things.
The staff are super helpful and great. It's just really hard to navigate the website to sign up for the youth swimming classes.
Have more lifeguards so kids can practice when they do not have swim class. Many times therapy pool is closed due to not having lifeguards.
Frustrating that when I can't get online the minute registration opens, I can't get a spot for my child. Plus no guarantee they can remain in the same class they were already in. It's all a gamble. My family lives in water. Confident swimming is important to us, but getting consistent lessons is a challenge!
Every instructor we have had has been incredible! This is such a helpful program for new parents to have confidence and skills to support their child's development with swimming!
The quality of swim instructors has declined, particularly at the preschool age. This is compounded by the added cost for lessons on top of membership. I'm not opposed to the additional fee, I understand the business/operational need. However, the value doesn't match the price. And it also seems that the sessions are shorter now too? I'm not sure if that is just a summer thing?
