The lack of accountability to make up multiple games due to the weather conditions which we can’t control by the way. The audacity to only say here’s a 10 dollar discount for future enrollment on other sports. Why would I invest more time and money on an organization that’s not gonna commit to fulfilling the full season that’s not free and that there was a fee paid.

Refered 3 other families to join team, 1 early game was cancelled due to rain and rescheduled, when rescheduled it rained again so the game was cancelled and we’re told no make up game..
I think that should be a reconsidered rule or some money back as we pay for a full season

Intro to flag football was extremely unorganized

This will be our last year with the YMCA. We’ve been with the YMCA for three years now, and every season has progressively gotten worse to the point where her current team only has eight players when they need nine to field a full team. There have been multiple games where we’ve had to borrow players from the other team just to fill out the roster.

The disproportion in talent, kids pitching who shouldn’t be pitching, and the overall lack of competitiveness has made the experience unfun, unwelcoming, and unenjoyable.

The Soccer fields at Potranco are not as nice as the fields at OP Schnabel, they are made up of mostly dirt (not a lot of grass) and boundary lines are not marked well compared to the Soccer fields at OP Schnabel. I was also not aware, until after the season started, that almost every team has been playing together for multiple years and they recruit players from “new” teams if they see good players that they want. Players are signed-up to their requested Coach/Team and all other 1st season-sign ups are all left to make-up one or two teams that are new to the sport or do not know anyone to request. So, a lot of the teams mirror Club Soccer teams (played together for consecutive years and have sponsored jerseys) while all of the “leftover” players are placed on one or two teams together - instead of mixing up ALL players together when building the team rosters. The system has basically been manipulated to mirror Club Soccer without the Club Soccer price tag which can work in the favor of the parents but it will discourage new players that are interested in trying the sport for the first time or trying to learn the fundamentals of the sport. YMCA referees range from calling the games very differently, some let players re-do throw-ins then the next referee you get will call the game like it is the World Cup they are officiating. It seems it would be more beneficial to give players redirection/re-dos at the start of the season then as it progresses expecting them to know more as they go, instead of the referee calls being so “0 to 100” each game, for a lack of better terminology.

Our kids were in two different sports and the coaches were VERY different. One kid wanted to continue (great coach) and the other didn't (not great coach).

Sign-up easy, coach was great. Referees were great. Games were easy to get to.

We love the youth sports program and swimming lessons.

The SS & AOA classes and Senior Activities help keep me active and there is a good variety. It would be GREAT if classes with size limits offer a "wait list". So many people sign up for a class then cancel. Sorry but I'm not constantly checking the app to see if a spot opens up. It would be great if the ac vents AND fans be cleaned on a regular basis. We all struggle with allergies, then to have fan and vent dust flying or falling on us while in class is just yucky 🤮 🤧.

I like the that you offer a variety of sports. My son really enjoyed winter soccer.

I didn't like practicing 30mins before a game. I felt like my son needed more practice. Similar to volleyball. A one hour practice during the week and a game on Saturdays. This gives the players and coaches time to get familiar with each other. I don't think my son could name 4 players on his team. Additionally, this was my son's first time playing. He was behind on skills compared to other players and instead of getting him up to speed, his coaches avoided giving him the ball. When he had the ball, the coach would tell him to pass it to a player with more skills. Not sure how anyone can learn the game when he's not able to have the ball.

Soccer for my son 5-6 years old

This is in regards to the 8yo girls bball program at the YMCA specifically. -I was a coach and received poor information about initial coaches meetings. We were notified the day before it would happen. Not realistic for working parents. -Not informed about what would happen at meet and greet. During volleyball meet and greets, the ymca director held the meeting and gave instructions. I assumed this would be the same for basketball. But I was told I was running my teams meet and greet and that we could have an hour practice. A heads up on this would have been quite appropriate. -Really unsure why Potranco makes members pay ~$80 or so for basketball when Westside pays $40. Same program... -The Westside 8 year old teams NEVER came to Potranco to play games. We always had to travel there. -WORST OF ALL- Westside basketball teams got an hour of basketball practice each week over at Davis YMCA. We wondered all season why they were so much better, using their 30 minutes before the game to just shoot around. It was really frustrating to find out it wasn't a fair playing field. Parents and coaches of Potranco YMCA were very frustrated by this. To make this right, have planned out communication. Cut off registration sooner so schedules can be made. Make it a fair playing field...either everyone gets a practice time...or nobody does! Equal travel for all teams.

I love all of the activities for my kids. My kids are enjoying their homeschool classes.

Although we enjoy the programming and appreciate the opportunity to have our kids in sports in a low-stress environment, we have noticed some things that we feel could improve. First, the maintenance of the facility. The soccer fields are infested with ants. It is impossible to sit on the ground anywhere around the fields, without getting bitten. This is especially problematic for families with babies and toddlers, as you feel you can't put them down on the ground. Also, the soccer fields really need the turf replaced. They are mostly just dusty dirt! The kids come home completely covered in dust! Finally, the sinks by the volleyball court never work. The family restroom door is almost impossible to lock (please put a handle so it can be held shut while turning the lock). The main women's and men's restroom need to be equipped with changing stations. The only one at the entire facility is in the family restroom! The pitching machine is in terrible shape and needs to be replaced. The catcher's equipment is also not only in terrible shape, but it is way too big for the kids. You need to buy catcher's equipment that is sized for kids! Where is the money going? We pay more now, per kid, than we ever have before and get less. We have to buy the uniform shirts and you don't even give the kids medals anymore!

There's something for every member of the family whether it's swimming, basketball, soccer, Zumba or working out. I have family members at pretty much all locations of the YMCA I do wish they were all the same price and a little cheaper some YMCAs are more affordable than others.

Fall outdoor sports, flag football in particular. The fields are not in the best condition and could use some watering before the season and during the season. Even if the grass doesn't grow, at least water the dirt so it keeps the dust down so its tolerable for the kids and parents. May even want to consider bringing in some sand as a top layer to even out the playing fields, as I am sure soccer folks are having trouble with footing as well. The fields are going to get to a point where they are beyond a safety hazard for the kids if not properly cared for.

The coaches did an amazing job with the kids, they made the experience enjoyable and easy to navigate.

I'm not sure how it happened, but we ended up on the ONE team that barely showed up, whose coaches didn't always show, and didn't feel supported. I'm not sure what can be done since the coaches volunteer. It was super disappointing.

Softball did a better job of getting the umpires to learn the rules and officiate more consistently. Most softballs are still torn and pitching machine does better with newer balls

I feel like I paid a lot of money for the privilege of using your baseball fields. We had no coach - and the parent that did step up to try to coach went MIA halfway through the season. I and a couple other moms did the best we could to keep things going for the kids, but none of us knew much of anything about baseball and couldn't teach the kids much. We were not allowed to practice before the last game, even though it was rescheduled for two weeks after the last game should have been. 5 and 6 year olds don't remember things for 2 weeks without constant reminders. The little kids were also scheduled to play games in the middle of the afternoon - the hottest part of the day. During our double header, we lost half our team after the first game because it was just too hot for the kids. Overall, I feel like I paid way too much for the experience we received.

Did not have a coach for my son‘s T-ball team and also having multiple children in different teams where the games overlap and one child is not able to go to one game because the other Child has a game at that same time

We liked that EVERY kid is allowed to play, doesn't matter how little or advance they know the sport.

I felt it was very unorganized we had no communication with a coach we didn't know who to call regarding games and uniforms

I'm a member of the Y, so having my kids join the sports programs makes it feel like such a community. We see the same kids and parents on the sports field playing games, in the gym working out, at the childcare, the pool, or even at holiday or family-friendly events. Love this community!

I really like all of the programs but my favorite are the group exercise classes and the homeschool classes. I love that my whole family is taken care of and not just my littles or my my older kids. There is something for my whole family!!

Everything! I love how it is all about the kids and teaching them the game and how appreciative the parents are of the coaches!

The inconsistency in the coaches. There was a new coach at almost every practice and game. The coach at practice was not the same at the game. It hasn't been consistent since the first practice and first game. I feel like this played a role in how the team worked together or lack of. Girls who didn't show to practice were allowed to play the games. Seems like it was just inconsistent all around.

My daughter's indoor volleyball team did not have a consistent coach. This caused a lot of confusion and did not provide the team with the skills they needed to progress throughout the season. I feel like I spent $250 to have my child stand around in a gym wondering what she's supposed to be doing. Consistency is key in sports, especially with a group of teenage girls, and it did not exist on this team. I could have signed her up for another team through Youth Sports for much less money and at least had a consistent parent volunteer for a coach. I wanted something more official than just some parent who may or may not have played the game before to help improve my daughter's skills so that she might be inspired to play high school sports. This only created frustration and made the experience one that will likely detour her from playing sports in the future.
