I’ve been really impressed with the progress my 4-year-old has made in swimming lessons. In a short time, they’ve gained confidence in the water and learned important foundational skills in a safe and supportive environment. It’s been amazing to watch their comfort and ability grow each week, and I’m so proud of how much they’ve learned.

We always have a great time at the Mays Family YMCA Potranco. Our daughter enjoys swimming and dance lessons. The staff are friendly and helpful. We appreciate all of the activity and class options. Thank you!

As the manager of two neighborhood pools, we often get inquiries about swim lessons. I regularly recommend the YMCA in these cases as the parent of a nine year old who started lessons at the Y this fall and progressed to join the swim team this summer. Their instructors are attentive and supportive, and the smaller group class sizes mean that each child gets individual attention while keeping the camaraderie of a group of learners. The pools are clean and well maintained and always staffed with both highly skilled instructors and lifeguards. We swim at the Potranco location because it’s open year-round even though it isn’t the closest to our home. The location’s proximity to the local library and affordable college student membership rates means the whole family can come along and read a book or work out during lessons or practices.Finally, unlike many neighborhood pools, the YMCA has friendly hours for working parents. We love the programs at the YMCA.

Instructors are very patient. My sons are actually learning to swim. I can see progress in short amount of time. My sons enjoy the program

The aquatic class does not checked my Son's swimming level and induct him into very basic swimming group. I was disappoined that I am paying for 2 classes for basic swimming group. He could have been assessed for the his appropriate level.

Swim Coaches are very patient and kind! Toddlers aren't easy and all the coaches have been amazing with my daughter and the other students. Will definitely be enrolling her into the next swim class.

Private swimming lesson is wonderful. My daughter's instructor Jess is very patient, friendly and provides good technical feedback. Comparing your other swimming schools YMCA is more affordable and have longer session. Only thing, is the lap pool is always cold .

Instructors work closely with students, giving them confidence to move forward. No rushing. Ms Haley was a special teacher for my granddaughter! Thank you!

The first swim class went fine, the second was canceled and no one ever called to notify. The third was with a different instructor who knew nothing about the age group and treated it as such, being only 30 min. The last class was also with a different instructor and also knew nothing of where they were at. The cancelled class was supposed to be made up and again no one ever reached out for that, figured. All in all not a good experience since last year it was actually better. All the instructors were pretty much clueless as far as what class or age group was supposed to be doing what and no one in charge of anything.

The summer staff cancelled a session last minute, couldn't attend the rescheduled class. The kids in the course threw up in the pool during the class & my toddler had to move to the other pool but it was too deep for him.

Childcare mid day please at 12:30pm. More classes. I've scheduled classes, gone on time, and they've been full multiple times. Also more kid classes. We really like the ymca!

We had experiences at both Thousand Oaks and Potranco this year and definitely the Potranco swim director was so much more helpful and responsive and we really appreciate that. We also found the instructors to be slightly older than the instructors at Thousand Oaks and much more equipped to handle the children. Probably the only recommendation I would make is that the Children's pool just always seemed horribly dirty. You could very much tell the difference in color and cloudiness to that water versus the water in the larger pool. So it always made me a little bit nervous putting my daughter in it. Special shout out to coach Frank and Coach Haley as they were great teachers.

Overall, the experience has been wonderful, the instructors are amazing, and my child has learned a great deal. We truly appreciate the quality of the teaching. One area that could be improved is around scheduling and cancellation reminders. A more consistent or coordinated system would make it easier for parents to plan ahead and avoid any confusion. Thank you again for the excellent lessons, and we look forward to continuing!

I like the early morning classes. Wish we had more options at 5am but for now it works. This is the only time I have as a teacher and coach and it gets my day started. The virtual classes aren't a benefit to me (as of yet)

The majority of coaches we have encountered during swim class and private swim class have been friendly, knowledgeable, and good teachers. Some lack friendliness, training ability. I realize most are young, but the more experienced coaches should be monitoring and evaluating to help them become better coaches. It would be great to have some aquatic class opportunities between 10:30-4 available for people who want aqua zoom or aquatic classes.

My kids did swim lessons this summer. The coaches are patient and kind, and they keep the classes fun and exciting! I recommend that every coach give parents updates on their children's progress. The coach responsible for my children's class never gave me an update, not even once. However, he was absent twice, and the other coaches who filled in for him gave me updates on their progress at the end of each class, and that was great.

The children had fun learning to swim.

I would definitely recommend YMCA at Potranco. The staff there are so friendly and are so willing to help customers. I had a good experience at this location and I look forward to enrolling in other programs.

The swim coach worked very well with our little one to get him started on his swim journey.

All the aquatic coach's are phenomenal! My only complaint is the swim meets are extremely long and there needs to be a better process for race days. This was a common complaint among parents. Other than that, all of the coaches are extremely encouraging and stay on track with swim education.

I loved the attention the instructors give each student. There was a mistake on scheduling for my kids and the manager of the branch and aquatics director were great in fixing the issue within 2 days

Aquatics is the best in Potranco! We really appreciate time and effort the team puts in.

The swim lesson instructor that my daughter was assigned to quit after a few lessons, and after that, my daughter had most of her lessons with a rotation of substitutes. Out of the four different substitutes, there was only one that seemed as proficient and knowledgeable as the original instructor. All of the substitute instructors, except the one knowledgeable one, had to take the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson to figure out what my daughter's skill level was, so they could figure out what to go over in the lesson, which meant that my daughter's actual lesson time was decreased. I will not register for swim lessons at the Potranco YMCA in the future and would not recommend others do so either.

We had both of our kids do one on one lessons. In a matter of a few sessions, the ladies were able to build my boys' confidence and teach them the skills needed to swim.

They change the last day of swimming class to a day I couldn't participate anymore and I called them and had me on hold for like an hr and at the end said someone was going to call me and never did so I was disappointed for that

One of the four sessions was canceled by the YMCA, which I understand, however, I was not notified of the cancellation until about 10 minutes after the scheduled session time. The make-up session was also canceled, and again, I was not informed until I arrived at the location. The staff claimed they had called or emailed in advance, but had I actually been notified, I would not have shown up. I expressed my concerns to the aquatic coordinator via email but received no response.

Everything was great. Coach Jess was patient and helped us and provided great feedback.

The proximity to home.

I loved that my children had fun learning. It was a safe and fun environment for my children and the activities that they completed had them learning and enjoying the lessons. I also liked the two times a week lessons in the late morning/afternoon. It was conducive to our schedule. I hope they offer more options at that time again in the future.

We really like our coach. My son has been training with the same swim coach for a few years now and he is the perfect coach for my son. Coach Frank is awesome!

I would love it if my daughter was given the same instructor for the entire session. It was like starting over every time because she had a different instructor every day we went. I understand things happen, but either ask us to switch to a different time when we can have a consistent teacher or find someone who can be her full time instructor and let the original instructor sub for someone else.

the price is very good and low budget friendly. the staff/teachers are supppperrr nice and patient and friendly. my kids love the programs
