We had an extremely positive experience at the ymca this spring. My son played baseball and flag football, the y structure and logistics allowing for two sports at once, a first for us. Special thanks to Lotfi, Roderick, the officials and staff who supported us throughout the season at practice and games. Looking forward to more. -Andy

We loved Coach Pedro Gonzalez

Very poor umpiring which left the children feeling defeated. Bathrooms were not clean and dangerous due to water leakage.

We love thr YMCA & the opportunities it has given our kids to play sports in a safe, fun, and friendly environment

The sports fees are very expensive to only include the cost of playing on the fields & nothing else. The jersey was very expensive & for baseball only included the shirt. The jersey pilled & threads pulled in the very first wash. There was no hat included in the jersey purchase. For the price we paid for tball with the Y we could have paid the same to play with a little league but would have had the extras included. We chose the Y for the learning environment & we greatly enjoyed the season with our team. Very rarely did I see the YMCA staff around the property. One individual was sitting in a golf cart on game day watching his phone screen and his entire belly was hanging out of the bottom of his shirt.

Lack of restrooms within reasonable walking distance from soccer fields.

Before registering, I went by the YMCA location near my home and asked if doing both baseball and football at the same time was possible or if the schedules would be an issue. The girl at the desk called the sports director for San Antonio and was told that it wouldn't be a problem, all baseball games are in the morning and football in the afternoon. So I registered and PAID for both sports for my son.
I was also told the games / practices could be either in Stone Oak or Schertz. I was fine with that.

We started practice, I was shocked at his flag football practices were at OP Schnabel off of Bandera on Tuesday at 5:30 pm. It took us an hour to get there from Schertz, and missed our first practice. I changed his schedule to accommodate the flag football practice.

We received the game schedule at the end of the 2nd week. I noticed many of the games conflicted. I emailed, called, etc and was told that they would fix it, but not then, they were busy. I followed up with no response, nothing done.
So nothing done to fix, my child was not a reliable player for either team, trying to make both games... Hard to teach the importance of showing up for your team, when the schedule prohibits it. The YMCA just cared about the money, I guess.
The coaches were great, but they are volunteers. So while I would give the coaches 5 stars, If I could, I would give the Y 0. They did not care at all about anything but collecting the fee.

We have had a wonderful experience with the 5 year old tball! The only recommendation we have is to have every kid bat each inning, still practice getting the outs but let everyone bat! It’s their favorite part! But we’ve loved the experience!

A little bit disorganized

Girls softball player pitch is not aged correctly. The girls are not skilled enough to be pitching yet. They end up being walked the entire game and the girls don’t get to play any defense or get to hit. It should be coach pitch or coach assisted. After ball 3 coach steps in and gives 2 pitches

Adding a 30 mins coaching session as well as ensuring all referees have the same training would help, although I do understand the coaches are only on a volunteer basis.

Bathrooms in poor condition, issues with fairness among umpires, and no traffic management.

The jersey situation is AWFUL-Teams should be able to purchase their own jerseys. It looks like baseball under communism out there with the same awful colored-inside out jersey's with linebacker numbers for these poor babies. It's embarassing compared to other local leagues....

No practice gym for YMCA youth basketball - 7 and 8 year old girls. Very poor communication from the people running the basketball league. Very confusing websites - player place, coaches portals, and place where you pay. Free jerseys from the Spurs were nice but they should have some bigger sizes available (e.g. Adult small).

I needed a program for an 8 year-old beginner. This one was great. The coach was conscious of teaching every child and my son got to play a lot in the games which helped him learn. He loved it so much we are signing him and his little sister up for the next season. The short seasons were also a draw. It gave us a chance to try something new and finish it (even if he had decided not to continue).

There was no coach for the soccer team. A parent had to volunteer at the first practice. I feel like it was putting too much pressure on them.

We're able to suggest our coach or player. All coaches have been great with the kids.

The coaches were wonderful! They ran them through great drills to give the kids a taste of football and work on specific skills! My son asked every day if he could go to football practice!

Respond to emails in a timely manner and enforce the rules.

Good variety of options. Good sportsmanship is promoted.

Great staff and facility

Soccer at 4:45pm the hottest time of day to have 3 year olds outside with no shade was very disappointing to see. It was over 90 degrees every day and most of the team had to leave earlier because the boys were getting over heated. We did not get our moneys worth. But Coach RJ is amazing and he is the only reason I rated this so high!

The only reason I didn't give a 10 is because we had to travel to Cibolo for a game. Otherwise our experience with the ymca has been a positive one.

Better communication- we didn't get our practice/game schedules until very late, so we weren't able to make all of them. Also related to the rain out- we didn't get the notification that our game had been canceled until 10 minutes after the game time. Real time alerts via text would be a great improvement!

I never got an email after registering so around the 3rd practice we learned we needed to buy a jersey from the coach. It would be really helpful to get an initial explaining the practice times and need to purchase a jersey.

More games for the price we pay Or a end of the season tournament

i love the classes you provide and the instructors you have. I attend Barre, Yoga Strength and Body Pump classes there weekly

They need to be more proactive and have better communication around inclement weather. Overall I feel the communication is lacking. Also some of the staff are very disengaged. It seems like they don't even want to be there.

The flag football coaches, this past season were horrible. They were not fairly rotating and giving all players playtime and opportunity to play the game. The coaches had their own children playing and favored them and 1 or 2 other players. The referees are consistently inconsistent when calling the game fairly and according to game rulled. The referees body language was that of boredom. not engaged during the game and not upholding their responsibility.

The baseball fields are great! I love that they are turf and not grass or dirt. The staff is very friendly and always around. i see them at every practice and game.

Well the first practice the coach was doing good and engaging the kids but then all of a sudden 20 minutes in to practice he walked off the field and went and sat in his car for 10 minutes, then drove off, without telling anyone. so after seeing him drive off I notified the other parents that he eloped and they were all confused and upset, so another parent took over for the rest of the class. That guy never showed up again. The next two soccer practices were "coached" by a very young gal who basically just stood there acting like she didn't know what to do and did not instruct or engage the children at all. It was basically a waste of time and money. Then came t ball. We actually had a coach for this and he was wonderful, except he was 15 minutes late every time. He engaged the children and played with them and instructed them. There was much less crying and running off the field in general with all the children than there was in soccer, especially my daughter. I know the coaches are volunteers, but that doesn't mean its ok to waste my time and money. maybe yall should pay them just a little bit like $10/hr so they will take it more seriously. Its very hard to round up toddlers, lather them in sunscreen and drive all that way just to waste time in the heat because some volunteer walks off the job and doesn't take it seriously.

We were disappointed with lack of communication, and the quality of officiating. I understand the soccer coach was a parent volunteer who only volunteered out of necessity, and I appreciate her time and effort, but the kids didn't seem to improve as much as I'd have expected over the season. Quality of play was pretty poor.

Wish the soccer practice had been better organized

Better coaching.... Coach we had didn't know anything about soccer....she was new but still....Half of the PLAYERS for my son's team weren't paying attention and not listening....My son was the ONLY one who was And knows EVERYTHING soccer....Coach was off in lala land was glued to her phone then interacting with my son or her OWN team....was kinda a waste of time.....We SHOULD be learning about soccer ⚽ practice doing drills and prep for the soccer games on Saturdays but no.....she was somewhere else ....I DIDN'T did not 🚫🙂‍↔️ approve... I'm sorry 😐 Hopes my son will CONTINUE to do good and be the best player he can be... hopes he'll get a better coach then this fall (league.....Guess we'll see what happens.... I'm READY for the Winter league.... xoxoxhugs....

You have a very rude employee he or she almost kicked me out. As soon as i walked to the main entrance, he or she was even trying to stop me from entering the building!!! I was just trying to get some information about my son training sessions and game schedule because no one was answering the phone calls. I'm happy i found out what kind of people in this location before my son baseball clinc or camp started. I'm happy I was able to cancel his subscription get my money back after cancelation fees and move to another better place.

It's family friendly and the staff bosses and coaches are amazing at what they do let alone on teaching my child the basics in soccer ⚽....I hope my son goes far and achieves his goals, dreams,and passion..... He has became an excellent soccer player and he has done very well for his soccer camp, games,and practices....I hope he continues this journey....Guess we'll see what happens;) #GOson #THATSmyBOY #LOVEyouSON

More streamlined communication. There have been a few miscommunication or multiple communications over the same issue this season.

A boot camp or more cardio focused group class in the morning other than Zumba. Ever since pound left it's just reps or strength training.
