Parking is terrible and they are cutting classes down to 50 minutes. I have been a member of the Y for 10 years and these types of changes to the schedule make me want to find another gym. There is no good reason for this change.
The group clashes are great.
I’d like to see more early morning and evening classes that are on offer during the day to accommodate folks who work outside of Melrose in 9-5 jobs,
Amazing
Friendly staff, great programming and convenient location!
I feel like there could be more classes, butts and guys, more yoga - restorative, yin
Develop a system where you can sign up for 4-6 sessions of a class such as yoga or TRX. The sign-up system now is very stressful- if you don't sign up in the first 30 seconds, you don't get in. Also, do not shorten the one-hour classes to 40-50 minutes. I wish there was a time that just women could use the weight room.
I enjoy the classes but they are a bit pricey
Friendly people and variety of equipment.
Not enough classes for people with health issues/joint issues like low impact water aerobics when we work. A lot of the good classes are offered during work hours 9-5. Seems like itts catering to the retired and or individuals who do not have a 9-5 job. :(
I am in the cardiac rehab program and enjoy doing the workouts. The instructor makes everyone very comfortable and having something in common with all the other participants in the program (BUM TICKERS) seems to add to our comradery and friendships. I look forward to doing my exercises with my friends.
I love Nicole's Fitness after Menopause class. Nicole fosters a can-do supportive environment which keeps folks coming back!!
There are many class options to choose from and classes are offered pretty much all day 5 days a week and classes also available on the weekends. The instructors are great . I particularly enjoy Jeff Dodds chair yoga, Julia Pollards stay fit class and chair Pilates class along with Dev Bennett stay fit class. The space is clean and the reception staff are friendly and inviting . Yes I highly recommend the Y
I like the sense and feel of this particular Y for community & classes focused on women's health like fitness for menopause. I like the idea of having mindfulness classes to be added.
A good variety of classes. The equipment is in good shape and usually available. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Easy to sign up
I'm enjoying the strength training program with Dev and I hope to try out more programs this spring.
They make exercise fun!
I have meet so many nice people, instructors, other members and the people at the front desk. I have been challenged both physically and mentally.
Quality of instructors is very high at the Y. Nicole Wade is doing incredible things for the women of the Melrose Y! She is a gift that is helping peri/menopausal women age with confidence, strength, healthy bones, and a **** of a lot of important knowledge to share amongst friends and family. My 50yo husband is so impressed with my progress and knowledge gains (I've been doing Fitness for Menopause for a year now and I also take Nicole's Pilates Burn class). My husband is interested in a similarly run class that he could take. Veronica is my other favorite teacher!
Lots of options for both scheduled and drop in classes
I applaud the Melrose's Family YMCA's commitment to community building, holistic wellness, and high quality guidance and training. The facilities have been very well maintained after the renovation that happened a few years ago, and I feel like the space is well-utilized for its class and activity offerings. The administrative staff is warm and welcoming (Hello, Vonette and Sheila!), and I always feel well taken care of if I have a question. Lauren Sanford is my amazing personal trainer, and I'm a proud member of Nicole Wade's army of badass Fitness for Menopause athletes. This past quarter has been a difficult one for me in terms of fitness. I re-injured my right knee earlier this year and have been working with a PT to alleviate the discomfort. Lauren Sanford has been my partner and champion as I've been figuring all of this out. She has been flexible when I've needed to take breaks because of the pain, and she's been brilliantly creative in her programming to keep me moving safely in my recovery. She's asked thoughtful questions about the PT's recommendations and she's vigilantly been monitoring my form and my comfort levels as I've been on the mend. Training with Lauren is one of the highlights of my week, and I always feel strong and proud of myself coming out of her sessions. Her shining star is on the rise - well worth celebrating! I'm so glad to see that Nicole Wade's role has expanded into the YMCA's leadership team and that her gift for supporting and elevating the women around her is being recognized. Nicole is a Swiss army knife among fitness and wellness trainers - a Pilates guru, a laser-focused personal trainer, a heart-driven wellness educator, and an advocate for women's health through detailed data-driven communication. Her passion for empowering women has grown the Fitness for Menopause program exponentially, and I feel very lucky to have a place on her team. Thank you all for treating us like family, and I look forward to participating in more YMCA programming in the spring and summer.
Love the classes - instructors are well prepared, encourage having fun, and I look forward to going! Nicole and Kristina are amazing!
There is a high demand for the 8:30 Yoga Flow and Yoga Sculpt classes. Its present location limits the participation to 39 excluding a large number of people who want to practice yoga. The app system of registration is haphazard often not working. This unjustly excludes folks. Signing up for yoga should not be a high stress experience!
Variety Skilled instructors Kind and understanding staff. Most can be modified to suit your fitness level.
