An incredible amount of time spent each lesson not in the water.Watched aquatics supervisor try to pull child into pool to do an activity. Not approriate (please note not my child). Instructors often have backs to the kids. Ive counted over one minute of instructor having back to part of the group. Chatting with other instructors. We have attended wyoming pool and Mooretown and these lessons are subpar and unsafe compared to there. Large group numbers, while aquatics supervisor mops floor, sprays handles and cleans them. Why isnt this extra person in the pool helping? We will be canceling our membership after this session. Safety should be of the utmost importance and this really needs attention.
Cost is too high
Patience with kid with Autism
For the parent and tots would be nice if it was more interactive. We usually do two songs as a group then everyone just does their own thing. And since we're paying quite a price for this I just expected more.
Encouraging staff
More time for lane swims would be nice, with work I can't get to the morning swim (6:30 -7:30) and the 11:30 - 2:00 is also during work leaving only the 7-8 o'clock swim in the evening. I do think the lifeguards are great and eager to help with a lot of knowledge.
Love the warm pool for my little one! Makes easing her into the water so much easier. My only complaint about our class is the class size, it is quite large and makes hearing the instructor a little hard.
My daughter loves the Y. There have been several activities that she has participated in over the past few years, including swimming, art, and science. I like that it is a place she enjoys where she gets to engage in healthy leisure.
You didn't disappoint me
everthing
My favorite activity is aquatics and I find we don't have as much as we could. I love the exercises they're very helpful and I'm sure muscle making. Instructors are GreatA couple more classes would be awesome.
Pricing, it needs to be made more affordable for swimming lessons.
The lifeguards are very good with my grandson very patient. Also front desk staff very helpful.
Cancelling Sunday Aqua Fit in summer. very diappointwd.
Tailored to individual needs and abilities.
Pool and areas are very clean
Lots of different and fun Interactive schedules and programs for everyone
My daughter has improve a lot since she has being taking swimming lessons, she is getting better, faster and loves her classes.
The teacher are so good with the kids
People are friendly, facilities are clean, multiple activities for both young and old.
The instructors are very involved and invested in the kids. Always taking the time to explain the proper techniques and demonstrating it.
Parent and tots swim instructor this fall not very engaged
Kind and caring staff
Norah is amazing!
always good lesson but seems like my child is not progressing at all
Its carefully planned and takes care of the children.
I'm not sure, it's pretty good. Maybe more classes later in the day. Longer open swim times on weekends.
The coaches spend a lot of time actively demonstrating the strokes and breathing for all swimming styles.
The cost is quite high (even with assistance).
Move toys away from glass so easier to watch the classes
Love Petrolia's facility. The staff are great and very friendly. The facility is very clean. I love the aquadance program. Brea is AMAZING. I love her energy and she makes her class so much fun. She is the best. If I could say I wish they had more 50+ activities. Also I wish the website online was more user friendly. Overall I love the Petrolia Y. I am retired and looking to move and Petrolia is the top of my list because of the Y programs. Keep up the great work.
They are very well organized and I have noticed a big improvement in all of my kids' confidence and abilities. I have really appreciated seeing the lifeguards actually get in to the water with them this time and the fact that there is a lot less down time sitting on the sides this time around. Thank you!
The lesson are not over filled and close by
The last class was just doing our own thing. We got in the water and the instructor said it was the last day so do whatever and then she spent the time playing with the other swim class. Was very unimpressed. The instructor we had during other classes was absolutely fantastic tho!
my kids love going to swimming lessons and when I was in aquatics, I really enjoyed my class too. One complaint, though, as you guys took away the buns and guns class that was my favouRight, and now there are no classes running that are close to that as far as I know and at a decent time.
The instructors at the Petrolia pool were wonderful. I wish Strathroy had a bigger centre and a pool
I like to use the weight room and the pool as often as I can. My son is also in dwimming lessons.
Well organized and great coaching.
Norah was the best instructor any of my children have ever had. She is as good as it gets. Lots of instruction and fun.
I find it extremely congested and messy trying to drop your kids off and pick up, sign in and sign out of sheets. This should be done at the entry point of the YMCA, and not on the skirt of the pool. I don't find that the YMCA offers enough swimming classes for the demand of Petrolia alone, considering parents have to act like vultures to get their kids into classes.
Having to buy a full membership just to do Childs swimming lessons Also didn't feel like there was a curriculum and the instructor just did whatever
Too expensive. We missed getting into mooretown. The staff are great but the price you pay for what you get, or don't get in petrolia is outrageous.
Nora was a great instructor once again for our daughter. We will be back in the fall sessions to keep on working up to be a lifeguard.
There were multiple instructors over a short session. One mentioned my daughter couldn't front crawl. Others would disagree as she has great technique and swims multiple laps.
I expected that the children would be supported more through activities and exercise to improve their swimming ability. They did get acquainted with the pool after the first couple of weeks. They maybe need to be pushed more considering its only once a week that they get to be with the instructor.
The staff have been very kind to my little girl and always friendly and inviting!
Lack of communication. Rude mannerisms by a lifeguard. Inhumane treatment in the water. I was told I put my son in the wrong swimming level, even though I followed the INSTRUCTIONS at the end of last term's feedback. At the bottom of his swimming report, it said he did not pass and for him to repeat the same level, so this is exactly what we did. We did what we were told to do, and registered him to repeat the same level. Then, on the first day of the new term of swimming lessons, his new coach/lifeguard rudely told us that he is not supposed to be in her group/level. This could have been said/communicated more discreetly and with a little more compassion about a 9 yr old's swimming abilities. Unbeknownst to me, she still had him in the pool though, in the freezing water, in a deep pool just holding on to the ledge. She did not allow him to do a single lap, or anything at all to warm up. I am not even sure that she remembered he was in there! After I convinced my toddler to go to the glass viewing area to check on him, I could see him shivering and I knew something was not right. After 10 minutes I went to the poolside and asked him why he's not swimming? He told me he was not allowed to do any laps but that he was told to stay there! If I had not come in and intervened, she would have kept him in there for the entirety of the 30 minutes! If he's in the wrong swimming class, why put him in a freezing pool to not swim? Funny enough, this lifeguard herself wasn't even in the water, it must have been too cold for her, but it was okay for my son to be in the freezing water and not moving? That same evening, I immediately complained to the supervisor. He checked the computer, and apologized for the mistake, he said we in fact placed my son in the correct class, and he said he will talk to the instructor/lifeguard and take care of everything. However, the following week, the same thing happened. This instructor of my son, told him he's in the wrong class. I immediately spoke with the front desk, again, and after 20 minutes of the front desk checking computers, making phone calls and talking to lifeguards, she tells me that yes, he is in the INCORRECT class! She said she was told that he is not keeping up with the group and that the previous lifeguard discovered this from the last term (so then why did she instruct us to put him in the same level?). My son was humiliated in front of his peers not once, but twice, by this coach/lifeguard, because of ill communication by this facility, and this happened at all levels. From the coaches/instructors in the beginning who told us to place him in the wrong level, to the new lifeguard who spoke rudely about him in a loud manner, and let him freeze in the water and completely ignoring him, to the front desk staff, all the way to management, who assured me he was in the correct level and that he would take care of the matter. What a shame to have this ill-mannered and unsympathetic staff run this facility, that our family used to love going to! YMCA was always our choice for daycare for our children, summer day camps, swimming lessons and other classes, but not anymore, this place is a huge let-down. The worst part of all this is that my son no longer wants to do swimming lessons, as this experience humiliated him and made him lose his confidence. Mistakes were made that could have been prevented at so many steps that it's clearly oversight and neglect by the facility. My son is on a summer swim team, and he has always been a lover of the sport, so this very upsetting for all of us, as they took away some, if not most, of his passion for swimming.
The instructors are fantastic with the kids!
The instructors are very enthusiastic and encouraging, my kids love going there!
This session is the first time we have felt our son is actually taking swimming lessons. He has been in classes since he was 5 (now 8) and the instructors usually do not teach too much. Sometimes I felt they would just go through a few motions, but did not take the time to teach anything. This session my son is in Dolphin/swimmer and learning how to swim. SO this year with this instructor I would recommend.
