Previously I submitted a review that had many concerns and right away Leo, the Associate Branch Executive Director, reached out to me to discuss my concerns and validated them. We spoke about the next steps and how some structures need to support and how we can work together to make sure the Y has the support especially for the upper grade students. The conversation ended very well and how I would like to continue after care for the upcoming school year. I really appreciate the phone call and following up to my feedback.
Very different atmosphere and less communication. We are not likely to make it through the summer. I do hope that Dave L. is back next year.
This is my son‘s third year with the Ymca camp. In prior years, there was more communication prior and during the camp. For example, last year there was a virtual meeting where we learned information about the camp. The camper handbook was shared on brightwheel last year as well. The communication this year has been very poor and I know that is because Mr. Leveille is no longer there. I have started to discuss with other parents possible options for next year.
Still waiting to see the Arts and Humanities program advertised when I signed my grandson up for the camp.
Program lacking for the middle school child.
The camp counselors are very friendly and helpful. The program includes swimming which is great. I love that the program feed the kids breakfast and lunch and offer field trips! The cost of the camp is reasonable.
How responsible and efficient the program has been.
The trips and swimming weekly.
My son always enjoys the YMCA summer camp. Every summer they come up with a fun program experience that lasts the entire time. Different themes each week, swimming time and lessons. The counselors and program directors are amazing! I would recommend 10 times over!
my son had a great summer with the different activities weekly. My only suggestion is to take more pictures to share for memories.
My son, love Ymca summer camp. I loved the fact that they did so many activities and went on adventures every week. They occupied the time very well and also continued educating the children throughout the summer. Every single staff member was polite and friendly. They all had a welcoming approach. The Ymca staff was also very considerate and understanding with both parents and students. I would highly recommend my friends and family to use Ymca for their children.
I like that my son gets a nutritional and hot breakfast along with lunches that he likes to eat. I like that the camp is safe and provides many activities for the kids. I like that the camp provides swim lessons that are included within the camp program. I love that the kids go on several trips during summer camp! The summer camp is truly awesome!
I liked that my child was constantly doing something of the summer and not just stuck in a house on an electronic and the 2x a week trips were great. My child was constantly looking forward to them. The consistent updates on trip progress and quick responses from staff was all very on point, whether in the brightwheel app, text messages or phone calls. I would definitely recommend and send my child again next year. I would only ask for more pictures of activities and trips if possible.
This was my daughter's first summer at an actual camp. The first day they could not find her bookbag and sent her home with her lunch box in hand instead of finding it. It took for my sister to come back and make them find it. My daughter would come home and say she was being bullied but the camp never said anything. I bought it to their attention. Another child stabbed my daughter in the hand with a stick. I was not told because no blood was drawn but a mark was left. Essentially she was attacked by another kid with a weapon but because blood was not drawn it was not an emergency. Another time my daughter had an incident and was left in her bathing suit while everyone else including counselors were in their dry clothes for 3 hrs. When I discussed my concerns of the camp doing a poor job at communicating I got more frequent updates. However the updates were only negative things my child had done. On multiple occasions a child reported an incident to us and not the counselor. I took my daughter out the last 2 weeks of camp because I'd rather watch her than pay for her to be in camp where it doesn't seem like they are monitoring small children. Another concerning incident was I was not made aware at some point in the day the older kids were w the younger kids. My daughter would hug an 8th grader. I was told they were not around each other. Another child told my daughter to go to said kid and say something which she did . It made the boy uncomfortable however he'd been giving her a hug like she knew him the duration of the camp. He should have reported to the counselor he did not know her. Boundaries should be set in the beginning and kids should be kept apart like I was told they were.
The staff is GREAT. The move to PAAS was very inconvenient. June 13 was the first communication that the camp was moved and was just hidden in the parent guide. I consider this no notice. At this point, it was too late to sign up elsewhere.
I would highly recommend Plainfield YMCA's School Age Child Care Program! The staff are always friendly and encouraging. They assist with homework. They do hands-on activities with the students around current themes. My daughter often comes home with creative crafts she completed while at the program.
The staff and leadership are very attentive to our concerns and needs. Offering is at an affordable pricing as well. Love this program and don't know what I would do without your team! :)
My child loves his time at the child care program after school. The counselor's have fun with them, he gets the homework help that he needs and learns lots of new things. He's always coming home with a smile on his face talking about what a good day he had.
The program is great and has improved over the years. I'd like the children to be able to more activities available. Maybe light cooking or woodworking of some sort. Definitely more trips or outings. I understand that transportation and funding was a factor in making this happen. I'd like to join any kind of planning or advisory board for the coming summer if possible.
Mr. Dave was amazing, I felt very secure leaving my child in his care everyday. I loved the activities and the communication was perfect. Thanks for providing my child with an amazing summer experience!
We had a great experience with CAMP RISE. Would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to send their kids.
Just a great all around program. My son has a blast every year!
it was well organized, and excellent communication between staff and parent. The quality of the activities and my child loved all camp staff
Communication from the beginning of the session with parents. I didn't get notifications until 3 weeks were remaining for camp. I believe asking for donations to the organization would be helpful in the beginning of the season so that parents are not constantly sending campers with cash weekly for pizza.
My grand-daughter enjoyed her camp experience at the Plainfield YMCA. The counselor and the director Mr. Dave were also me with the children. They maintained a safe and fun environment l with many activities.
the staff has been nothing but amazing! i thoroughly enjoyed the program. the daily activities, swimming on fridays and two trips! not to mention i was always contacted if something happened and updated at the end of everyday. the communication between staff and parents was excellent. I was so excited for my child to attend and every day since she has a great story to tell after camp. i will definitely be signing her up for next year's camp. and if this is the same staff for the after school program, she'll be there too.
My son had a great time at camp RISE! The staff was wonderful and he enjoyed all the activities
I like the exposure my children received with different activities and lessons
It was more structured this year. Staff kept parents informed and the kids had fun. No complaints.
My daughter attended the camp/after school program for 2 years and she will not be returning. There were multiple days she came home with homework incomplete or not done at all. The teacher had to replace homework folder and resend assignments to be completed because folder did not make it home after being picked up at end of day. The constant rotation of staff provided inconsistent supervision for my child. Whereas she started at the program not wanting to come home at the end of the day. By the end of the school year all she wanted was to come home. There was an issue with being billed for the days she attended. After numerous attempts of mentioning to the staff available, a charge was made to my account but it was not the correct amount. Subsequently there were changes in staff and I advised staff again. Then there was an attempt to collect at the end of the school year about a month before school let out and I finally was able to speak with someone. I advised that person that I understood the amount that was due but it would now take time to pay. There seemed to be an understanding that I did not want to be put on a payment plan but the past balance would be paid before end of July. Recently payments were taken out of account without my direct authorization. This camp/after school program is severely disorganized and needs to be re-evaluated. As previously stated my child will not be returning, nor will I be recommending the program for others. Highly dissatisfied.
Inform parents of what is going on weekly.
It's very expensive but it's a great program jus t too expensive
My son has been with the YMCA aftercare program since kindergarten and he is now ending the 3rd grade. He always enjoys going to the program after school. He gets help with homework and also enjoys the opportunity to socialize and play with his classmates after his homework is done. I could not think of a better aftercare program.
Assistance with homework.
The after school program has been fantastic for both of my kids (ages 6 and 9). They provide a safe, fun, supportive environment for my kids to do homework and then play with their friends until I finish work.
my daughter loves the ymca after school program, she gets mad when I pick her up early, she loves the different activities they offer, yes they help with homework , great job YMCA
Mr. DAVE is amazing! He takes an active interest in his students and families. He cares, professional and follows up efficiently!
I love the flexibility, homework help, and most of all the kind counselors.
Assistance with homework/ensuring it's completed before pick up.
My son loves going there because he gets help with his homework.
my daughter love the ymca, always a happy story when I pick her up
Both of my kids (ages 8 and 5) attend the after school program and love it! They get help with their homework so they can play when they come home, and they love being able to play with friends in different grades.
More time to do homework, activities to do after homework that's appreciated for the child's age.
The after school program was scheduled to begin 10/3 , still have not started with no anticipated start time. The program also should begin the start of the school year. Big inconvenience to working parents. Seems to be unorganized. This program is also very pricey.
Great coverage for when school lets out for working parents. Just better attention to detail with the homework assist. I find myself correcting mistakes or see missed sections on assignment and spend additional time with child in the evening after a long day of work.
