The volunteers are amazing! My daughter loves being in the water any chance she gets.
All inclusive where my child feels like a part of something and is truly accepted! Cannot say enough great things about saturdays in motion. Art does a phenomenal job of organizing and his energy is contagious. My child has been part of the program for years and was able to assist as a volunteer now. What tremendous growth! And it is all due to the love and care of the volunteers and staff with this program.
The Saturday in Motion program is an incredible program that I go to several times a year. It's a great place to connect to other parents as well. My boys enjoy it so much! I would love to see more programs, especially ones with dancing. Tracy Sica
The beginning process of the program, where kids are paired with teen aides, is pretty chaotic which overwhelmed my son a bit. The pool was also crowded.
It is incredible that the YMCA does this for children with special needs. Thank you! It is an amazing program!!!! Well done!
I liked my daughter was paired up with a volunteer because she has such limited contact with others.
It's the only YMCA in the county with any adaptive programs. The Saturday in Motion program is fantastic for children on the spectrum.
Love the Saturday in Motion We live in Somerset and have not been able to participate in other programs yet
We lovet my Kids like alot
This was my daughters first year at SIM. She had the best time. All the volunteers were fantastic with the kids. Mr Art runs a fantastic program. I couldn't think of a single thing to make it better. We will definitely be going again next fall.
Lots of volunteers and interaction during the Saturdays in Motion. I would like to see more peer interaction among the kids.
Somerset Hills YMCA's Adaptive and Special needs programs offer so many opportunities for children. Everyone is so nice and has a passion for making this experience a nice time for the kids. All of the workers and volunteers go above and beyond to make this a wonderful time for all.
I need to know more about other events
I think it's a wonderful program to be apart of and a lot of fun it's a great experience for special needs adults and kids to get involved with
Tbe instructors/coaches are all knowledgeable, great and caring. The social interaction part is extremely important and seems to be webbed into each program.
My son loves attending Saturday In Motion at the YMCA. It is very heartwarming to see so many volunteers every session just willing to give up a Saturday night to spend with our kids.
Our autistic son loves going to the pool for SIM
Very good programs for special needs - they can meet online and in person, talk to each other and exercise together.
This is such a well run program for our kids and the participation by volunteers and all involved is deeply appreciated.
Los niños son libres en las actividades. Y los cuidan muy bien .
We love it. Saturdays in motion is amazing. We are hopeful the swiming lessons can come back.
I like all the activities available, the help of the mentors, and meeting families with special needs children.
Is the best programs
The children love Sat in Motion. Unfortunately, there aren't any other opportunities to participate.
The Saturday in motion program is perfect. They provide the special needs kids a chance to have a friend play with them. This program improves the mental health to both the parent and child. It promotes social skills. It is the best program that has ever been provided for special need children.
Swimming
Judgement free zone . Everyone is understanding and accepting.
Before the pandemic, there were swimming lessons for special needs at Somerset Hills. Now there are none. There used to be summer camp options, such as having a shadow. Those are now gone. There are no sports options for special needs. Most of the staff were let go during the pandemic and have now retired or gone onto other Y's. The reason we joined the Y at Somerset Hills was for my autistic son. I will most likely be canceling my membership as I found another organization that actually supports those with special needs. Thanks to Art, the Saturdays in Motion is continuing. In general, I don't feel my special needs son is welcomed.
It's inviting, encouraging, fun to watch our kids interact with others, inclusive as there activities for all skill sets. The volunteers have been amazing and the pool is phenomenal. Even for kids with mobility issues like mine there is the zero entry or the wheelchair lift to the main pool. We are so grateful for every Saturday that it's offered
It's just amazing, everyone there is so understanding and patient. I appreciate all the volunteers and thank you Rutgers students for helping out with our warriors. It is a blessing to have something for our kids free judgement zone. Thank you all for what you do. Michelle
It's great to have a class for our community. I wish there were more low key classes like this
I m on theses programs I think these programs are the best program to join in too because you get the greatest people to help in this field I have friends in these programs plus it's alot of fun
I enjoy it very much
It was a great program, the volunteers were awesome, they had so many activities for the kids and were organized for a large group.
The most I like is that everyone treat all of them with respect, and it makes my daughter feels like home .
You took away all of the special programs outside of Saturdays in motion. What happened to swim lessons for special needs kids?
We love Saturdays in motion, the freedom to play without a parent right next to him is wonderful! I would love to see some Special needs swim classes offered at the Y.
The volunteers try hard to keep the kids safe and make sure they are having fun. My child really enjoys the swimming portion of the program and looks forward to it every time.
We participate in Saturday in Motions and LOVE it! I would recommend YMCA Somerset because of our experience. I would love more sport programs for my autistic son… maybe an adaptive swim team where typical swimmers can swim with the adaptive swimmers and have meets. Or an adaptive basketball team. Any team sport that incorporated buddies so my son felt like he was part of the team, enjoyed some independence and participated in a great sport.
It a fun program
