It is very convenient for me that it is in the school. Easy pick up.
I like the people who is
Structure, various activities, the staff knows the kids, good communication tools,
Staff consistency. A few classes we have been a part of have had teachers cancel a lot or not show up.
Lots of staffing changes. Lots of threatening the kids with “quiet time" directly after school. My son is in Kindergarten and doesn't receive much homework. The idea that these children have to sit in silence until 4pm after sitting all day in school is ridiculous. I understand the homework policy and if my child was in third grade I would love that they want the children to do homework first but the program in general is not age appropriate for kindergarteners. The staffing changes toward the end of the year did improve and they did appear to let the children interact before 4pm.
We are so appreciative of the After Care Program at Bedwell Elementary School. The staff is fantastic and they come up with really great activities for the kids - no matter the weather or space within the school. Thank you!
This was our first year using the aftercare program through the Bedminster School. We have had nothing but great experiences so far. It is so convenient to have aftercare kick in on half days when school closes early. Or being able to use the kids day out during school breaks. Lastly, the staff has been fabulous. Positive, fun and kind but also structured in a way that makes me know the kids are safe and respect that the staff is in charge. Chris seems to be an awesome leader. Anthony and Mary have also been such solid helpers through the year.
They are organized and structured, and do a great job incorporating physical activities as much as possible. The kids day out sessions for when school is closed is very helpful Easy to communicate with the team through the app or email. The program teachers are very engaged with the kids and are consistent with maintaining order and reinforced expected behavior. Very grateful to have this as a childcare option for before and after school care!
All the staff are very friendly My daughter loves them all Good communication Affordable compared to most places various programs z for my daughter to explore
Very conveniently located at the school, and the hours cover a full working day. The counsellors are very professional, as well as friendly and welcoming, so I know my child is in good hands.
My son said he did not like quiet time immediately after sitting quietly for the school day, and being unable to get his energy out. School ends at 3:30 and quiet time lasted until the kids could sit quietly for 10 min. He felt like they were being punished everyday This led to him requesting not to have to go to after care and not wanting to return next year. Unfortunately YMCA is our schools only option outside of private caregivers and so he will attend, but he is not at all happy with it. Ideally, kids could start by having some time to release some of the energy that builds up after sitting, attentively and quietly all day. He also did not like that actions of a few, ie kids injuring themselves on monkey bars, led to large groups not being able to enjoy certain activities. Ir, Only 3rd grader aloud to use monkey bars.
The caregivers are friendly & my kids like to be there
I see a big change from last year [where my score would have been 8 or 9] to this year. The after school program leadership changed and the program was changed. Last year kids would arrive, get checked in and after a long day of school burn off some energy either outside or in the gym, followed by snack and then homework for those kids that have it and/or table games. Now kids are checked in, games and crayons are not brought out, snack and homework (some kids don't have homework and report it is very boring for them), physical activity is not until over an hour into aftercare, games are after physical activity. For younger kids or kids that are picked up earlier this is less ideal. I provided this feedback to the director and he was not open to make any changes and now he has been replaced as well.
Based at the school, so very convenient. The carers are friendly and competent. My daughter enjoys being there, and it sounds like there is a good balance of activities and free time. Flexible drop-off / pick-up times. Covers the full working day. Good value.
Reliability
The staff. JT is the best!
My son LOVES going to aftercare. The staff is wonderful and caring. Chris is such a friendly and positive person. We're so thankful that he has a fun place to go after school.
I like the outside time. I feel the team could do more structured activities, games, movies, etc. Maybe stage a play?
Cost is too high to make it worthwhile and the inability to only go one day a week.
Amazing! My son loves going there!
Have structured activities to encourage all of the children to play together even if you have to break the group in half to hold 2 different activity options. Involve all of the kids so that there is less boredom and it fosters social skills.
