We did not have the best experience during
Terrible experience with the JO volleyball, lots of money and no coaching
Pool has been at a better cooler temperature. Used to be to hot for lap swimming
Not sure why some people get charged a new membership fee and some people dont
It is dirty! The sauna is unisanitary and not cleaned let alone sanitized daily like it should be
Do better! Management should be inspecting areas on a daily walk through. The two vent covers in swimming pool area havent been changed in months(full of dust)
The facility is great, however I am disappointed in the sports program specifically basketball. I understand that the coaches are volunteers however most of them don’t treat all kids equally. my son was on 2 different teams(different seasons) but when it came to games he was barely put in to play. I feel like if we are paying like every one else then he should be given the same play time. I get it that the coaches want to when but how are the kids going to learn if they are not allowed to play. Y’all had a sign on the door to remind parents that it’s not college or professional sports but that should also apply to the coaches. my son no longer wants to play because he doesn’t want to just sit there and not be allowed to play.
I enjoy the people on my team. However, we were placed on a team that had never been together, giving us a disadvantage, when all the other teams have played together. We have only played 2 out of 5 games so far, because the other ones were cancelled. One of the 2 games our teammates were unaware of a last minute time change, because they were not notified, causing us to have zero substitutes.
The problems with the pool heater make me reluctant to recommend the class. The pool has been closed often OR the water has been way too cold for someone with arthritis.
Meg is a great instructor
Wil carefully plans out my workouts each week to best suit my strengths and work on needed areas.
The pool
Is chronically under repair and water is cold.
Good instructors and happy participants:)
Positive environment gor developing the whole child.
The counselors are very rude.
Happy with everything except fit quest. Husband got a great orientation at another branch. I signed up but never heard back. Since I'm not familiar w machines or most classes, I'd appreciate an orientation & recommendations for a basic fitness plan.
Overall the Spears Y is more than adequate. Always clean and safe which are my top priorities. I didn’t love that there were so many people. I came mid-morning, and the weight room felt small for the number of gym-goers. I come from a smaller Y in a pretty small town, so I’m not used to such a crowd. Childcare staff was friendly and welcoming. I don’t think the front desk staff or weight room attendants ever talked to me.
Beth Wilson is a very good teacher. The pool seems to be closed a lot but other than that they have great classes with Beth.
The pool has been closed multiple times, and even when open, the water has been uncomfortably cool.
The pool was closed too often!
I have come to Spears Y for years and from time to time there is trouble with the pool. I use the pool and water classes for therapeutic reasons recently having back surgery. I gave up physical therapy for the pain and balance class and now I don’t have either one. I realize that you may not be able to control what breaks but maybe your maintenance needs review.
I really enjoy the community and access to information and resources not limited to physical health a wellness (free library, seed library, soil tests, etc.). There is also something for every member of the family; youth sports and open basketball courts, weights, ,machines, and fitness classes.
The pool is cold or the pool is closed. Women’s locker room is not clean. Spots on floor remain despite washing. Hair in shower drains that doesn’t seem to be removed daily. Tops of lockers are dirty.
The only reason it gets such a high number is that the classes are so good.
The staff is very friendly and the Spears YMCA has a lot of different areas and classes to help with your health journey.
Need more pickle ball courts- outdoor would be great and an outdoor pool or indoor/outdoor pool.
The staff members at Spears are great! The value is amazing and we have built a community within those walls. Our daughter loves going to the childcare!
The classes are great! I would like more of them offered in the early afternoons. The morning classes are very crowded.
Broken pool and pool closes whenever there is lightening.
Pool has been closed several days for various reasons. The pool workouts are the reason I joined.
I made a participate participant in the aerobics class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our Instructor is Heather. She does a fantastic job. She’s a great professional teacher.
Something is always wrong with the pool, locker rooms, sauna, and or all of the above. Had to go to another ymca just so we could utilize what we pay for
Staff is great and kind, my son loves it, he feels cared and encouraged.
Reduce the seasonal cost to play
Until the pool can be reliably opened at a steady, warm temperature, I cannot recommend any pool activities at Spears.
Love water fitness. It’s pretty much all I can do given my injuries and orthopedic surgeries.
The basketball for age 7-8 needs to be tiered by a competitive team and a no skills team. It’s not fair to the players playing for 4 years and be put on a team with players who’ve never played. There can be 2 levels . Even if it’s same 4 teams playing each other over and over again still better than the garbage we have this summer . My son can’t even scrimmage at practice bc half the team has never held a ball before .
You are treated with respect.
The program is good, but it has been met with many challenges. Water temperature and closures have been a major disappointment this summer.
We like the kids sports at the Y. However, there are very unequal teams as some coaches are allowed to stack their teams and it ends up not even being competitive. Tryouts might make it more of a league.
Spent more time trying to get organized each day then actually playing.
Wil customizes
Water is consistently too cold.
I love working with Rebekah ~ In three months, I'm stronger, have less pain, and more energy ~ The days I'm in the gym are noticeably different than non-gym days -- better physical energy, better mood, better thoughts, more in the flow, more delight, more joy, more enthusiastic about life ~ Yay personal training! Yay Rebekah! Yay 2026! Yay Y! Yay me!! Thank you!! PS. The only way it could get any better is if the Y offered small group personal training for menopausal women lifting heavy for strength, function, bone density, quality of life <wink, wink>
Great classes and wonderful staff!! Great opportunity to meet new people and have fun while exercising!
The program is very well run and the staff are all very professional. A good variety of class types and times offer something for everyone. The only reason I didn’t give a 10 rating is because the pool itself seems to be struggling. Lots of repairs, down time, issues with equipment. Surfaces around the pool are often not the cleanest. The women’s locker room is clean most of the time; I realize, with constant use and people’s lack of respect for property, maintaining a pristine environment is difficult. Overall, very good and I am glad to be a part of the program.
The facility is always clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Josh has been very forthcoming keeping us updated while dealing with recent pool issues - again, very helpful. The Tues/Thurs group is fun and we receive a good workout.
I understand how something like the pool can need service and upkeep, and I know everyone is doing their best to correct the situation, but I cannot recommend the aquatics program until the pool is consistently open and the temperature is adequate.
The pool temperature is never right. I won’t return until it gets fixed. After closing for 2 entire weeks, why would these issues not have been resolved?
Energizers class is amazing with a great instructor! Been attending for years and plan to continue for many years to come!
Best thing I've ever done for myself; however, I will not be returing to the water until the air is warmer and pool heater has been fixed.
Great instructors
Clean facilities
Classes are fun and enjoyable
Great exercise
