Programs designed for kids are great
The kind child a youth staff. They learn my children's names and welcome them back each week. My children are always excited to come to programs each week
I like that there are many times during the week for free swim so we can bring the kids. I like that there is also open gym time daily as well A kiddo of ours comes a few times a week. I wish they had programs for kids older than 12. I have a 13 yr old and 15 yr old who would love a program or activity like they have basketball and floor hockey. But for kids maybe 13-17. I also wish they would bring in soccer again as a program. Maybe a kick boxing or boxing class for 13-17?
Everything
Great programs that help kids learn and use their energy in a good way
great supervision and caring by the staff! Staff seem to enjoy and it shows on thre kids!
The variety and the fact they change throughout thw year. My kids love all the programs.
Variety of activities and times.
More program
To consistently offer the programs to kids and youth in smaller group, like for instance karate group can be divided into smaller group.
Friendly staff, clean environment.
My kids love the swim lessons. They are however disappointed that kids yoga was not being offered again.
Excellent Service
The variety of options! Our children love going to the Y!
Activities are very engaging for the kids, nice clean environment, great staff.
Cost.. I understand it's income based but single parents with good income still have lots of expenses they don't get credit for when it's based of income
The building seems always be full of happy people, from children having fun and learning skills while having fun, to young adults, to adult men and women to seniors, people from any country, any religion, any physical or emotional issues, all welcomed and accepted
I was very satisfied with my daughter's experience at the YMCA, St. Thomas March Break Camp. She had lots of fun and it was good she was able to go swimming in the YMCA pool. I can only speak to the swimming, because I wasn't told what other activities they were doing throughout the day. I did gather over the week that there was some colouring and outdoor play as well. A weekly schedule, or activity list would be nice to for the parents, so they have an idea of what is going on. Only area I can touch on for improvement, is ensuring camp staff is at the facility promptly for 7:25 am for those parents who paid for extended drop-off & pick-up hours. Thank you.
Take a picture of the kids doing activities to send to the parents.
Great instructors and lots of variety
Risky play My child comes home dirty= had fun and allowed to try things and develop independent skills Diversity in play centre ideas My child always wants to be the last one to go home
Your class sizes r too large for student teachers to teach properly and maintain class structure. The length inbetween classes for full time members can take up to 4 weeks before one class ends and the next classes start it is waisting membership money when programs don't run back to back.
This year my son is actually playing the sports he signed up for and not doing a bunch of games and activities completely because unrelated. He looks forward to going to his programs. And I like that he is kept busy enough that he is tired after! He loves his coaches and there is always good feedback at every session.
I like that they are included with your membership
Thank you for the varied programs available for kids up to 12. Any chance we'll see more for the slightly older kids?
There needs to be an adult monitoring the young instructors while they are teaching. It is very obvious that their level of comfort dictates the quality of a lesson. A very introverted teenager does not make a great group instructor, whereas an outgoing individual is much preferred. Perhaps if the instructors new a boss was watching them, they would try harder. Also they need to be reminded that they should be maximizing time spent doing something, like actually swimming, instead of standing on the platforms while students wait for their teacher to read the laminated sheet for the tenth time that lesson. Lastly, there is a man who sits in the hot tub every Wednesday at 4:30, then gets out and sits in the chairs watching the kids for the rest of the lesson. He is not with anyone in the lessons. Not sure why this is allowed with the new updated child protection policies.
The staff
Love all the great program leaders!!!
My kids love the programs they participate in at the YMCA. The instructors are always helpful but also strict when they need to be.
Lots for the kids to do in the daycare and the childminders always seem attentive.
My son had a very disappointing experience in basketball. There were three staff and many children and a few of which were missed behaving very badly. I had to step in three times where the staff were just watching as my son was being teased multiple times. I watched on a few occasions to see how things would pan out and if the teachers would step in. I was very disappointed to find out that I was the one that needed to step in on a few situations where I sat back and watched on the others. My son loves basketball was but was teased and tormented within that class that he did not want to return. As a parent I would be very concerned to leave my child in a program and go and exercise and not know that this is what he actually endured. I am so glad that I was present for the first class. As a result my son and not return to that class.. I was very disappointed as I thought basketball would be something that he could continue with throughout his years into his teens. To top everything off they moved his karate class to another time which was during his swimming classTherefore he could not participate in that class either. They offered to put them in a class with younger children but they would be too young for him
Teams seem very positive and friendly. Kids want to return
Well rounded program
Water quality is not upto the mark.
My grandson enjoys them
Structured program Well run Informative instructor
The Karate program is good for the physical as well as decipline and respect factors. The cooking classes have been good at introducing new things for them to try.
There are not enough programs for teens.
Karate Growing Chefs
They are easily accessed, great instructors and my children are happy and excited to go!
More classes offered. Smaller classes. Open the climbing wall
Friendly staff, lots of fun
If this is before and after program then I would say 10 however if this is about summer camps I would give it a 2
The man running the basketball program at the Saint Thomas YMCA was terrible is mean to the kids and he doesn't enjoy teaching them at all. My son quit.
Instructors good with kids
More programs for tweens.
Gymnastics has tag for more then half the time and then the last 20 minutes is just lining up and waiting for your turn. Basketball should be smaller groups or more instructors.
Bring back drop in classes. Offer more selection!
The basketball league has lost its original coach who was fantastic, now my kids don't like it anymore bc "all we do is drills". That being said they love the triathalon training...
I love the teachers and the range of actives for the younger kids. My older kids have aged out of the classes ore the classes are too late at night for a pre-teen (karate specifically).
