The staffs are very nice!
Signing up for the classes is ridiculous. The online version is very difficult to navigate - neither my wife, nor I have figured it out yet after three years of trying - and if we go to sign up in person, the things we want are signed up within five minutes of opening. We're standing in line at the Y when the sign-up opens, and we get nothing.
Staff are supportive, kind and compassionate. We love theo and fletcher !
I love how the programs have childminding at the same time
Great staff and instructors
Here is a concise, balanced comment you can submit. It's designed to be constructive so the directors know exactly what to fix while acknowledging what they did right. **Comments:** My child thoroughly enjoyed the swimming lessons and basketball camps this session; both were well-run and highly engaging. However, the Thursday night Science camp was a disappointment by comparison. It consistently felt disorganized, and the sessions frequently ended significantly early—often letting the kids out after only half the allotted time. While the sports programs were excellent, the Science camp lacked the necessary structure and curriculum to fill the scheduled period and provide a valuable experience. I hope to see this program brought up to the same high standard as your athletics in the future.
Ymca is family friendly. All family members can enjoy sports and other activities in the same place at the same time. They also have small cafeteria with variety of options so family can have snacks, lunch, or even quick dinner. Washrooms and changing rooms are available at different areas and are clean, tidy , and brand new. There's also a library in the same building and a community centre. Playground area outside. Thank you YMCA!
Pre school swimming classes are great for little kids to get comfortable with the water then start learning
The instructors are all great at what they do, I know it can be difficult especially teaching small children. I do wish that the classes were longer than 30 minutes though, I would prefer longer classes and shorter session timeframes (for example 1 hour classes for 8 weeks instead of 30 minute classes for 16 weeks, or even 45 minute classes) so that there is actually time for us adults to fit a workout in during that time. 30 minutes just isn't long enough. I think health and fitness is very important for not only children but also for adults.
The staffs are very helpful and engaging with the kids. There are a arrange of activities to keep them engaged.
There should be more organization and prepared activities. Improvisations are often noticeable, and that's why children open up in class.
Lots for kids and family love the kids programs and family swimming and swimming lesson the staff are always there to help with big smiles awesome warm greatings
Staff are engaging and knowledgeable
All peograms seemed to be run by volunteer youth who had no interest in keeping the spirit alive. They were just killing time to get their hours, bothering least to make the program interesting and useful for the kids present there. They hardly even get involved.
It is unfortunate that the programming includes the city programs as members are sometimes unable to get into programs because the city has taken spots.
Friendly and clean environment, and the program coordinators are wonderful in their participation with the children
My son loves it at StarTech. Especially the pool.
Kids like the swimming and the crafts through the day.
Everything
My kids complain of being bored and kids being mean. It's hit or miss. My kids hated it during Christmas break and they enjoyed it during March break.
Affordable, good start/end times. My son enjoys the variety of activities available such as crafts, playground, swimming, climbing gym.
Swimming daily, lots of crafts and incorporated outdoor time
Affordable with plan, variety, well organised and accessible
It is my understanding that the Stoneycreek YMCA branch has a concierge service in which young ones who have been dropped off at a drop-in activity can be walked to their next activity like a registered program, with the help of a YMCA staff member. Implementing a service like this at Bostwick would help parents participate in a class for the full duration or workout longer without needing to step out to pick up with child and send them to the next activity.
Swimming is great. Soccer class for 5 years old: it's only 25 minutes. J'y the time they sign in and out there's only about 15 minutes left. The hardly to soccer drills. Seems like a lot of standing around waiting for the one kid who isn't listening.
And more free gym more often , and add a punching bag at the gym
A lot of selections. Wish some classes increase capacity especially those ones that require parents to present.
Interesting that this survey came the morning after what was our final straw with the Bostwick Y... The child minding program has gone downhill quickly. Some of the girls working in there are fantastic, but many of them, especially the ones that work mon-fri in the evenings, are terrible. They couldn't care less about the kids, and just seem to sit around together bragging about who did worse on a test they took that day or gossiping in general. Just last night I picked my daughter up, who immediately told me she pooped... no one changed her, or even called me to change her. She complained the rest of the night about her sore bum. Also when I arrived, she had no socks on. I asked where her socks were and one of the girls pointed to the check in area, where the socks were laying in the middle of the floor. Didn't actually say anything to me, just pointed to the socks and went back to what she was doing. Put her socks back on. That's gross. Not to mention, the check in/out process has also fallen apart. No one checked us out last night. No one checked my ID, they didn't even remove her bracelet and "let her out"... I just eventually opened the gate myself and took her because no one seemed to care. Even the other programs that my son is in, the check out process is no longer existent. Sign in/out if you feel like it, no one is monitoring anything. No one checked my ID for taking him last night, no preprinted list of kids names... If someone WANTED to take a child that didn't belong to them, they sure could here. We won't be using the child minding program anymore, which will sadly make us rethink our whole membership as that was a major draw for us logistically.
I would like to see youth programs in the morning!even for a couple of hours...!
1) Time for sport (soccer, basketball, all kinds of sports, etc.) programs for age 3-5 is too short. (only 25 mins) 2) We would appreciate if instructors could teach swimming skills more, or let kids swim more. 3) Kids love cooking classes so we wish there are more class available.
Need more knowledgeable Coaches/guards
Good program
It is a clean place. The groups are large(usually). The variety of program choice is excellent.
Certain programs such as Soccer, Swimming have the right ratio of participants and trainer (s). This helps the student learn better.
We need More things to play in monkey bars room
Showers are hard to manipulate for parents with younger children..I end up as wet as she does from constantly having to push the shower on after her lesson. They are also rarely warm!! Having a coat/boot rack in the change room would be nice as the lockers are very small.
The variety and different date/time options.
Instructor (Ashley) was terrific, fun age-appropriate recipes, well organized & timed. I would have liked healthier food, less sugar.
Sometimes the group program seems to be very chaotic and mismatched. My kids are in soccer and are learning for the first time- however there are a few older children in the group who have been playing for years obviously. Therefore tease my kids for not knowing how to play. They have even gone so far as to bully one of my kids. I spoke with the instructor and they are monitoring it; but I feel like there should maybe be a beginning and intermediate level for some things. Otherwise we love the programs!!
I don't like the register time. I mean you open the registration for all people and at the same time, so some people are not able to have the same program for all their children. It is unfair
The variety and great facilities
You need to hire people who actually know how to bake to teach baking classes. Additionally, my child has repeatedly asked the teacher to provide the recipe for one of the classes (the only one of 4 where they actually made something edible....) the teacher keeps saying she will and then doesn't. What's the point of teaching kids to o cook things if they can't go home and do it? Also you should rotate the recipes between courses. There is SO few option for the over 13 age group to begin with, add to that what times and locations are feesable and baking was the only course she could take so I signed her up for it twice assuming that there'd at least be different activities. To my disappointment it's the same ones and my daughter doesn't even want to go. I signed her up for dodgeball also, she hated it. The other kids were older than her and being way too competitive so she felt left out and didn't want to return to something she was super excited about initially. Bottom line, the ONLY reason I sign my daughter up for them is because they're included in the membership I pay for anyways. I would prefer to opt out for a reduced membership fee. I certainly would never recommend them to another. The swimming lessons are ok but it's incredibly annoying that I have to call or register her in person because she is 13 and for some reason you have the age limit at 12 for level 7 swimming. Again, I would rather opt out and pay for lessons at public pools, I find the instructors there are a bit more than energetic and getting in the pool with them. The young man she has this time around is much better but many of the young ladies seem like they don't want to get their hair wet or something. I see the kids get very bored.
Classes get filled to quickly them there's nothing left. My daughter is 4 and she does not like the sign in class, looks miserable.
The children enjoyed their programs but at times the cooking class involved more sitting than active participating. Food was prepared and the children assembled for a small portion of the class followed by waiting for the food to cook. Possibly more "cold" recipes that didn't require waiting. The 4 week sessions also were quite short. I think they would have enjoyed longer periods that promoted some learning/skill development.
I find a lot of the program's aren't fun/engaging enough for the children. I understand some are more skill developing. I feel like the program's aren't pre-thought through about what will be taught. The 25minute classes for the younger children doesn't seem long enough. I know you have offered 40 minutes of the same class. Maybe rethink age groups at that point. Also I am disappointed that swim lessons in the summer go for two weeks straight, I want a once a week lesson still at that point. Thank you!
No regularly scheduled parent and tot programming evenings or weekends. Lots of parents work during the day and as someone who pays for family membership I'm disappointed that there isn't more for me to do with my child after work or on weekends. Child minding isn't an activity. Many parents want to actually engage in something with their children after being away from them all day/week.
Good variety
Great space, variety of programs offered, great program leaders.
No Supervision of teachers (who are all teenagers), or following up to see that they are doing their jobs. Cooking class - out of all the classes not one recipe the teacher could make, so the kids did not learn how to make anything (also samples of what they made were not appropriate for kids to eat). Swimming - some classes are over booked, other classes the teacher is left to deal with difficult student who refused to follow instructions - Deck Supervisor did not provide assistance to the teacher, Swim teacher telling parents they couldn't provide any feedback because they were stuck with too large of a class Dance Class - they learn to play tag all class instead of dance Guitar Class - Teacher came out and told parents after three weeks of lessons, which children she didn't think would have a future in music and recommend them not to take the course again - in front of all the other parents and children, this was very hurtful and embarrassing for the children, plus we were under the impression this was an introduction to music not her predicting their future I understand that these teachers have to deal with a lot but some take advantage that they are not supervised. You also have some teachers that go above and beyond - you need more of these teachers. Recommendation - feedback after each session from parents on course and teacher.
Family friendly!
