the staff
The Y is a very welcome place. It keeps me feeling connected to my community and it allows me the freedom to exercise while my daughter has a great time at child watch!
Cold water, very hard to hear instructors
Instructors are very patient and knowledgeable. My son’s instructor meets him where he is. He encourages my son to try in a fun and relaxing way giving him the confidence to try. This is our 3rd swimming class and we feel that we are finally seeing progress with the instruction method at the Y.
Great instructor
Miss Liz is my son's teacher and she is wonderful! He's come such a long way with her. She's the perfect mix of kind and tough and his confidence is soaring 😊
Night hours
I just wanted to take a moment to express how impressed I have been with the YMCA Aquatic Center and the overall experience there.
The Master’s swim program has been incredibly beneficial for me, and Coach Dan has done an outstanding job. His coaching, encouragement, and attention to the swimmers truly make a difference and create an environment that is both motivating and welcoming.
I’ve also been consistently impressed by the professionalism and kindness of everyone at the facility. From the people at the front desk to the lifeguards and staff, everyone has been accommodating, friendly, and genuinely helpful.
It’s clear that a lot of care goes into creating such a positive atmosphere, and it does not go unnoticed. Thank you all for making it such a great place to train and be a part of.
Thank you
Nick is a phenomenal swim teacher and has such a special heart for kids. He makes the kids feel safe, welcomed, and excited.
Reception staff is friendly and helpful, swim instructor Miss Terry is excellent, lifeguards are helpful and most are friendly. Gym facility is very good. I have not taken classes yet. Only improvement I'd like so far is if we could occasionally reschedule a swim lesson within the same or next week. At this time of year there are a lot of events and we had to miss 2 lessons within a couple months.
As a lap swimmer there is always accommodation for us, even if there is a class in the pool, lanes are kept open. I appreciate that. The hot tub is delightful.
The children's classes are great and our daughter thoroughly enjoys it!
Ray has been extremely accommodating and helpful over the past few weeks. He has been extremely flexible and willing to make sure everything is fair.
if the class starts a few minutes late make sure to add that on to the end of current session, thanks!
They know what they are doing. It was amazing just before the ending of my son's first class he was able to swim in the deep water he was very much surprised himself. This is truly amazing.
Friendly environment, great community
Great place for family !
The teacher is always changing and when it is the normal teacher he is often late or talking with others instead of teaching
I wish the classes had more variety. Teachers just seems to do the same songs and routines week by week. I don't feel like we're making any progress really.
Make more classes accessible by adding more or stagger times. My son is unable to go up in level because we are on the waitlist for an opening in level 3. Staggering class levels could help families with multiple children in different class levels. It's difficult for young families with multiple kids to come more than one day a week due to other extra curriculars and late school dismissal. (For instance, Sparta district elementary dismissal is at 3:45pm ruling out the 4pm weekday class.) Weekend days are also difficult due to certain activities only being available on weekends. Swim is otherwise very important to us. My kids love it and we have been very happy with the program.
Noah is a good instructor my son likes how He is patient and fun.
Water could be warmer. Otherwise my son loves it
My instructor, Sarah, is practical, helpful and knowledgeable. She has a great teaching style and makes you feel comfortable.
We love the swim lesson program!
The swim lesson programs are the best in this area and family plan gym membership ( free swim lessons under 2, discounted other swim Lesson ages, family themed parties, child watch 2 hours a day 6 days a week). Highly recommend for local families Sussex County, West Milford , or Warwick NY ! Doesn't get better than the YMCA !
My boys really enjoy their swim lessons. Their coaches are helping them improve their strokes as well as working on flip turns and diving.
Friendly staff, excellent water quality, pretty good availability of lap swim.
It was my first aquatics class in many many years and everyone was very welcoming and helpful. It was a great workout.
Feeling like teachers do not take it serious. Kids do not improve a lot.
Every week we have a new instructor, there is no continuity. To this point, we left NJ swim because the pool was too small and my daughter wasn't building endurance. Now at the Y, most weeks she swims from the edge of the pool to the first swim lane. This seems to happen because the person filling in that week isn't familiar with the skills of each child and their ability. To make that even more difficult, kids seem to be thrown in to any class regardless of their level. There is a huge disparity between the abilities of the 5 kids in her class meaning rudimentary skill building (level 1 and 2 skills) are the primary focus of this class now. The entire swim program just seems to run unsupervised.
We love the class it has been good for both our boys and it is a great way to get them use to the water!
Water could be warmer :) More family/open swim Other than that, you all do a great job!!
The communication about pool closures and schedule changes is not good.
Improve physical plant refresh locker rooms
This was my second time getting recertified for first aid and CPR for my job .I've enjoyed my experience both times with both of the instructors. i will definitely come back in 2 years for my next recertification.
great every instructor was amazing and patient with my son
all swim instructors were really good with my 4 year old grandson. The facility was clean and well kept. My grandson looked forward to going every week
To many rules that are inconvenient for the people who go there.
Friendly staff, clean and welcoming
The teachers try to accommodate the needs of every child.
good people running the pool clean just wish it was bigger more lanes gene
Well-maintained facility, professional staff, top-tier coaches. Dan is the best!
Life guards need to pay more attention. A lot of times older kids would bump into the pre school swimming class. Very annoying. Also if you have a sibling that is young it's very hard to have them out there without a stroller.
My son's teacher, Liz, is really great! He's learning and progressing really well. She's the perfect mix of kind and tough. She pushes him to be his best while encouraging him, and she takes the time to work with him when she sees he needs it. 5 stars for Liz!!
Staff was great! My son felt very comfortable in the water and looks forward to continuing his lessons!
People are very friendly and helpful. My 3 year old grandson is taking swimming lessons and the staff are so kind and patient.
The program is wonderful! Very well organized. The head coach is professional and always accessible. Lots of opportunities for the kids to have fun in and out of the pool with celebratory parties, award ceremonies, swim clinics, fundraising opportunities, etc. My son is very happy on the team.
We started swim classes in 2023. We had an instructor dunk my child because he was excited and wasnt listening. We told her before classes he has autism2 all life guards also knew. Since then we have been told cha he's have been made. And the instructors are great! We love terri. She has modified with pictures to help my son understand what is expected of him. When we signed up the office told us he couldn't be in a swim group. That we needed to pay for private lessons was the only accommodation they could suggest. Our son loves to swim and for safety reasons we agreed and signed up. We have had 16 lessons so far. But in the last few weeks some private lessons have dropped so the ymca has chosen to allow family swim while we have our swim lessons. Each lessons in done close to the steps so now we have family's in and out causing more disruption in our 30 min lessons. We have talked with management and had 1 week where it was fixed and now last week it was open swim again. It's just very unsafe.
Dan was awesome!
Great instructors, they helped my children overcome their fear of water. They are now comfortable swimmers and enjoy the water. The instructors were patient, polite and respectful.
