Since retirement, I have taken advantage of the Y facilities, mostly the group exercise classes, met and made friends there, and participated in some of the many social events sponsored by t he Y. There are so many activities for all.
I love the proximity of the Livingston YMCA to & from my home. Staff are welcoming. Parking is plentiful!! The Livingston YMCA works for me!!
Limited access to adult lap swim. The times listed are not honored by swim team and other program staff. In the past, staff have been rude and disrespectful. Although addressed, other problems persists such as staff who don't listen well when calling in with questions (e.g., interrupting the person before they can complete their request). Other issues include inappropriate behavior by members (e.g., spitting on the floor of the steam room, allowing children in the sauna and male children in the lockeroom. There is an issue too often when arriving to reduce stress. No longer worth it.
Add more swim classes
Great staff, Christine is fabulous!
Better hygiene from all members
Very nice and complete facilities. Surely cleanliness will improve @ bathrooms, steam room, sauna and shower rooms…
I definitely like all the exercise classes and I’m looking forward to seeing the new building. I just want to bring to your attention that I got this survey eight times today between 11:30 and 1 o’clock and I also got it multiple times a few days ago and already filled it out. It is not a complaint just to bring it to your attention in case there is a glitch in the system. Thank you very much for all you do!
Please stop the multiple email bombardments
Need to get more adult free swim time !! Hot water issues and steam room issues.
You should have more early morning exercise classes for members who work, I would love to have the option to take a 7am spin class during the week...
Very nice facility and staff
Variety of workout options, easy parking, location
I had been a member in the past. I got a serious and very disabling complication.after a back surgery. Therefore, I couldn't come back to my "Y". I missed the lessions my instructors , my friends and really just about everyone. Once I got a little better, I joined my "Y" again. It is a very fulfilling. Friendly, beneficial, and great place to get to or remain in good physical and psychological condition. You make good friends and end up with good strong body.
As a recent new member, I am particularly impressed with your pool lifeguards and most of your aquatic instructors. In particular, Christine is the most talented, engaged, and approachable instructor I have ever met!
Helpful staff and good facilities with, I assume, even better facilities and equipment once new building opens ( in 2026).
Staff is excellent !
Love the water classes. Especially Kristine’s. Many to choose from. Looking forward to trying land classes also.
Amazing swim coaches/trainers that are both courteous and talented to help improve skills of those taking swim lessons.
I love the swim classes but they have become very crowded. Perhaps adding a couple later classes would help decrease attendees.
We’ve had such a great experience! Two things really stand out for us:
Swimming: Our kids absolutely love their swimming lessons. They are always excited to go, and it’s been wonderful seeing how much they are learning and improving while feeling safe and supported.
Summer Camp: They also really enjoy the summer camp! The organization is great, there are so many activities and new things for the kids to learn, and most importantly, they are always excited to go back.
Great job to the entire team and staff for creating such a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for the kids. We truly appreciate everything you do!
The facilities are generally clean and well-maintained, the equipment is regularly updated, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming.
One area that could be improved is the locker room showers. I feel they are overdue for an update and would benefit from some renovation. Also, the schedule listed on the 365 app is sometimes different from the actual schedule, which can be a little confusing.
Overall, we are very happy with our experience at the Livingston YMCA and would absolutely recommend it to our friends and family!
A couple of months ago was the last time I did this survey or one similar. I received a very sterile, generic reply. In my last submission, I mentioned a couple of things that I felt needed fixing, change or at least explanation. Nothing changed and there was no responce on these. I believe the addressed issues were: 1, poor maintainance of some of the 'nautilus' type machines in the fitness room, 2. the 'ropes' for the one in back on far right very frayed, 3. rep counters on all machines covereded with stickers rendering them void and 4. a couple of the machines no longer have connecting cords for pegs that adjust weights. A few years ago when Helen ran the place, none of these things would have remained unchanged this long!
I have been taking the Water Fitness classes taught by Kristine Elmore and she is an outstanding teacher. The classes are so much fun--and they are an excellent workout! She is a gem!
Update of facilities
I love the people, instructors and classes!
I love the group fitness classes, and it’s a great community in general
It offers everything you need classes, equipment, personal training Staff is very friendly and responsive
I like the staff. They are very friendly and helpful. Although I don’t use a personal trainer I have positive interactions with them and I see how good they are with their clients.
I haven’t looked into what the rates will be once we move into the new building and what they will be for new members so I can’t give a higher score without knowing that. The current facilities and equipment break down so it is good they we are moving to a brand new facility.
Inundated with survey emails. This is harassment and needs to stop.
No good activites during Child watch. Quality of water in the swimming pool is bad. My son has rash after swimming in YMCA even only 20 minutes every time, but he is good in our township pool every time.
Unlike other similar facilities, the Y atmosphere suits me best: it's members and staff are welcoming; the instructors are true professionals who care deeply about me; stress free environment.
New facility will be opening in December with more classes and an expanded aqua exercise program. A good community of people
I love the YMCA, great child care, nice and peaceful environment
Many years ago the Y ran exercise classes in the evening. It was filled with young working women and mothers who needed fathers (or someone) to babysit. Sometimes high school aged students joined in. That was before joining an outside gym was easy, flexible, and cheap for the aforementioned groups. Perhaps the marketing department of the Y can think of ways to entice these people back to the Y.
I object to the website using YMCA not YM/WCA. Perhaps people don’t notice when driving past, but others may think it is exclusively for males based on the website. The Livingston Y is supported by a large number of women. Why is the website not inclusive?
The Livingston Y has been important to my family since moving to town 55 years ago. I am looking forward to a new building with new and continued programs.
I dont like the fact that other members dont respect basic hygiene rules
Will see when new
all good classes, thank you,
I love the classes. Nasheed is wonderful and serious about helping us get the most out of the different exercises. He takes time to explain how what we do in the class will help our stability, etc. Nasheed also makes use of humor in his class making our sessions with him enjoyable. I also take a class with Julia who is also very good. She really keeps us moving, keeps our heart rates up and like Nasheed's class, I always leave feeling that I had a good workout. Julia is also very pleasant. Both she and Nasheed connect well with us.
Love the water classes
Helpful staff, great classes, pool and workout equipment for variety
The swimming “lessons” are useless, when they do happen. This is the second year for my son and he has learned absolutely nothing. Also, you keep the kids indoors way too much and there weren’t enough field trips this year. You’re not really teaching the kids anything new, either. At all.
Add more swim aerobic classes. Some with later start time so the earlier AM classes might not be so full.
I attend mainly because of the acqua cardio with Christine; the chair yoga and Nasheed's class for seniors; Julia's Move and Groove.. I like the senior program at the YMCA.
That I was able to put my son in swim lessons, camp, and aftercare with help. YMCA was so nice in helping me with financial assistance. I can't thank them enough
Some of the swim instructors this summer were terrible. In particular, two younger female teachers spent more time figuring out what they wanted to do next rather than instructing the kids. My daughter averaged 5 minutes a class several times. The more experienced instructors are able to get each swimmer more time even when there are many kids.
Many classes were cancelled and when these cancellations happened, no one contacted me to reschedule. It is very difficult to get a hold of anyone over the phone to see whether the pool is closed or to reschedule a missed class.
People are welcoming and friendly, there is plenty of equipment and it is nice and clean.
The YMCA has helped me build strength, health and confidence in my senior body. Have enjoyed every single day I’ve been there.
improve the new signup procedure for classes. The limiting room size sounds like a terrible mistake the burden from which is being passed solely to members. It would be great were Y staff able to come up with some more creative solution.
Increased membership fees combined with the problem described above is going to make some members, new and old, disappointed.
Classes at the Y are one of its greatest draws.
Love the staff and variety of classes with very good instructors. My happy place.
