Coming from a parents point of view I don’t know what the changes we have been with YMCA over the years, but it was hard to keep up with the changes at the last minute on the changes four times and locations for games in the beginning the communication was not given as far as who the coach was gonna be. It wasn’t until after practice that we got notification the first game was at six in the evening and normally there are early in the day but throughout the season the times and location change frequently and this was the first time that there was no consistency other than that, everything was great

Enjoy the different activities

The coach I played for only put me in 2-3 minutes a game. I paid $80 to sit down.

Communication could have been way better. Team didn’t feel like an actual team for the parents. We felt lost a lot of the time.

My child has not received a jersey for about the last 2 years due to never having jerseys his size (middle school child needing a 3xl)

My kiddo is enrolled in basketball for kids, and I don’t see consistency in following the rules. What I mean by that is that some referee follows and apply rules while others (in other games) don’t. This is creating confusion in the kids mind, because they are told what they are not allowed to do but other teams break rules and referees won’t call them out….. I also wish we could meet twice a week because it’s it not enough to learn and practice much one once a week

Staff is friendly, facility is clean and the programs are great.

The coach does not give equal playing time to all. My son doesn’t play for half the game while the coach’s son plays the entire game. I thought it was for fun and to learn and not about winning.

Had no communication for

I liked that practice during the week was offered. We signed up for our first basketball season at a YMCA that only offered a 30min practice before the games. I feel that was no time for team bonding. The coach our son was assigned to was such a good coach. Just a completely different experience than the one we had at Mays Potranco.

Referees were lacking in knowledge and during 2 games one spoke aggressively to our boys. Disappointing behavior! Lastly, we paid for a tournament that never took place and are still pending reimbursement for $50. Please assist. Respectfully, Jennifer Maldonado (Ethan)

What I like about the programs and activities is there is always something for everyone.

Coach Mark Nieto was a great coach. Not only great in teaching techniques and skills but building confidence. The team environment was always positive and while competitive it is respectful.

Kiddos are in sports and one of them wears 3xl and they never have a jersey for him due to his size

People " so many good things to say about " talking about great things in life have so many programs to do "

Love the skills that my child has accomplished

Facilities were nice and spacious and coordinators were very fast replying when I had questions. Programs were very child first which i appreciated

My daughter has learned so much from playing basketball there. This will be her 4th year there.

The coach seemed more interested in winning than making it an enjoyable experience for the players. She played the kids who were better more. The kids who weren't as good got less than half of the gameplay time. There wasn't enough teaching going on and she didn't give them any chance to learn how to get better. There was no sense of community within the team. We never even got the jerseys we were supposed to get and had to use old black and white ones instead of the blue ones. We will not be participating again at this location.

Great communication

Signed my son up for 17U boys basketball. Not enough players on the team. 5 players that showed up to practice and games. Had to forfeit a game for not having enough players. I looked at other teams we played against and they had 8 or maybe more players. We all pay for our kids to play not to forfeit a game. I feel like teams should have 8 players and just to even out the teams to prevent a shortage of players.

Lack of customer service at the front desk and the hotline. No.one seems to know what the most current information is and everyone has a different answer.

My son wanted to play basketball again so we signed him up. Practice came up and we hadn't even been assigned a coach yet. We get there and still nothing, no coach showed up. Thank god for his dad and a two others that stepped up and took time out of their day to coach the tornado team!

Maybe allowing for kids to have more practice days. They onlt have 1 day practice which they will not learn proper training.

That basketball for older (high school) ages is provided, the facilities are in great shape, and the coaches and Y staff are friendly and competent. Also, that each game has had two referees - my son's school has held games with just one ref which isn't sufficient. Overall, seems to be a well run organization!

It's a great program that involves the whole family.

My sons have been in soccer, basketball, and flag football with the Y for over 5 years now. This past weekend we had a basketball game at Walzem. Our team is made up of 9-11 year olds. We have been together for 3 years now and a couple of kids are now 11 so we decided to move our team up to 11-12 years old. We had the understanding that the kids we were playing were 11-12 and maybe 13 year olds depending on their birthday. Come to find out on Saturday that our 9-11 year olds were playing against a team made up of 12-14 year olds. 2 of the kids were 14! The height and size difference was extremely evident. Parents were not upset that our team lost as they should have against kids that much different in body size. What was extremely upsetting and disgusting was the 2 14 year olds plus 2 others on the other team were pushing on our kids. Using their body to knock kids down and using their extended arm to push players away which is a foul and we have several videos to show the many times this occurred. It began to make our players upset and to make it worse one of the refs saw it happen many times and argued with the Coach and parents that it was not a foul. Players began to get upset on both sides and several kids got hurt. The same referee began to negatively engage with the coaches and parents by smirking and laughing at coaches as they tried to explain why it was getting out of hand. The ref kept saying we must not know the rules and we should read them again. This is by far unprofessional for a ref especially when kids are playing. Because of how the game was going our and the ref not protecting our kids, our coach asked the other coach to talk to his kids about the shoving. The coach of the other team responded by telling our coach that maybe the players should just be better coached. Then to top it off right after the first game as our kids had 2 back to back games, the coach of the other team and the one disrespectful ref giving each other high fives. Our coaches have worked with our kids for 3 years now and they read out all rules to parents and kids so we are all familiar with guidelines and make sure our kids are respectful of other teams, refs, and coaches but when this is not the norm for other teams and especially coaches and refs it is extremely disappointing. Please do better YMCA! I look forward to a response.

The swim class. Before it was a quick 30 mins and playtime now they have used the whole 45 mins for class which makes a big difference because there are a lot of kids so it allows the kids to get more time. This makes me happy.

Registration dates should be open during a adequate time prior to the season starting. While it is understandable time is required for teams and scheduling to be in place. Starting the new season registration while 2 games into the current season and then implementing late charges before the regular season has not ended, does not seem to attract new or current players.

I expressed my thoughts a few times. No changes.

This has been the best league we have participated in! The program really focuses on the kids and keeps them engaged. They tech them the fundamentals and work with all skill levels.

THE PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE AND ITS IN MY BUDGET

It'd be great if the YMCA staff would take a closer look on children that attend not just their YMCA but all YMCA's. I have three children that attend Potranco YMCA and West side YMCA and at times their games fall on the exact same time and day meaning I'm not able to attend all games or sometimes a child will have to miss a game for the other one to play his or hers.

The coach used very abrasive language and words to bring the kids down. I understand this is a program for children to learn and develop sportsmanship however I don't see that happening when a coach is consistently putting them down and expecting the kids to know everything when they are here to learn. This coach is Amorette Rodriguez and I understand this is volunteer work but there has to be guidelines on how they speak to the kids regardless of age. There also has to be a conscious understanding that not all the kids learn at the same pace. It is one thing to be aggressive and encouraging but when there is only aggression, words of disgust and disrespect it is unacceptable and unnecessary.

The game location at Sunnybrook Christian Academy is awful because there is no air conditioner. It was very hot and stuffy, everyone was uncomfortable.

Our volunteer coach is awesome and the team players are great! Half of the team did not receive a jersey and they played in their street clothes.
