Great facility
The main thing that tempts us from moving away from the Y is the hours at the gym end too early on weekdays.
Every aspect of the experience at the Y at O P Schnabel Park is outstanding. The facility, the classes, the childcare, the events, the staff. They have built a true community. I met one of my best friends in San Antonio when she was teaching a tiny tumblers class that I enrolled my 18 month old in. My husband and I keep our sanity because we can have date nights (even if it's just staying home!) for 'Parent's Night Out' and the kids look forward to it all week. I recommend this branch of the SATX YMCA to everyone in our area.
I am a new member and I received a nice introduction to the facility and help/guidance on all the equipment by Keisha one of the personal trainers there. Facility is always clean. I recommend this YMCA!
Very nice community
Awesome friendly staff, great members, Christian values
Coach Sam was amazing with the Tony Tumblers class!
Staff are friendly and helpful. The facility is dated. I wish there were more showers near the pool.
* It's a gamble to sign up for the kids classes. The quality varies quite a bit.
* The class schedules are posted really late and so it's difficult to make plans.
* The full schedules are often only in paper form on site. The pool schedule for example is partially online, but the slide schedule is not posted. It's also not posted online when swimming lessons are. This is a pretty common experience that the app doesn't have the same schedules and so it's difficult to make plans
* The prices keep going up, and there are a lot of things that YMCA does, we don't have the lifestyle to take advantage of all of it, so we are paying a pretty high premium. What's disappointing is that we've had mixed experiences with the extra experiences (like the baseball clinic) where it doesn't feel worth it.
The best part about the YMCA for us is the childcare. Many gyms have childcare, but not like this! They are always doing screen-free activities and the teachers actually remember my kids names. They even let the big kids get their energy out and play gaga ball or with the basketballs. The level of childcare that we get here allows me to not skip a beat with my workouts when summer comes around or in the evenings after school. My kids absolutely love going to the pool here too! I absolutely love the classes and instructors for the classes also, they always find a way to make it fun and new and motivate everyone to keep going! The YMCA has become a part of our family's daily routine.
Clean facility, well maintained equipment, knowledgeable staff
The instructors that teach the group fitness classes are some of the best people! They, not only are talented, they help build their classes into little communities.
a few more classes geared for all level not just seniors or hard core.
I love the family environment and staff.
The staff is welcoming and friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It’s very clean and well maintained. There is a variety of group classes as well as gym equipment.
No security on property. Cameras ineffective.
during summer, it would be nice to extend the children’s watch classes to maybe 1pm? i watch my grandchildren and the childcare ends at 12. this makes it impossible to attend some classes.
very helpful staff
I would like to give a shout out to the child watch and life guards who do an excellent job of watching and keeping our kids safe! You have the BEST staff in both places and we consider it a true gift and great blessings to have them as part of our community!
Keep the facility clean. The women's locker room is always dirty, the floors, sinks, and toilets (I don't think are ever cleaned). Fortunately I don't use the showers. More often than not paper towels and/or toilet tissue is missing (I attend morning classes so it isn't that these supplies have been depleted during the day.) One of the stalls has been closed for "repair" for months. The floors in studio one are always dirty. More or different maintenance staff certainly needed. I give it a higher score because of the awesome instructors and friendliness of people that work out there.
Lack of equipment, broken equipment, lack of classes in the pm
Very nice facility. It’s usually not very crowded, but parking is sometimes an issue.
Staff always very friendly and courteous
They have good variety of equipment and classes
The family atmosphere. The friendly staff and instructors
The OP Branch has a welcoming atmosphere.
The perks of a ymca membership are amazing
The staff is always friendly and most helpful. I always feel very comfortable that I am surrounded by staff that are eager to assist genuinely helpful to me in meeting my goals towards bettering my overall health.
The facility is clean and bright, the staff is friendly and helpful.
It’s very family friendly. There are great classes for all ages.
It’s an incredible facility!
It's a great place to spend time with friends
The staff is generous and helpful. My son needed space to practice his martial arts and they had no issue with this. In fact, we've borrowed a couple of them as audience and everyone has been so supportive and wonderful. Even when they can't solve a problem, they are willing to make helpful suggestions to help make any situation better.
I love sports
Cursing, inappropriate coach. Challenging to communicate with leadership in a timely manner.
Great staff and teachers
Staff is professional and always offer positive encouragement.
I feel comfortable working out with like minded individuals. I feel welcome every time I come to workout. I love the scriptures on the wall! Very motivating!
Other teams coaches got in yelling fights. Games were cancelled due to weather and there were no make ups. Our kids were on a tiny field that shouldn’t even be considered a field.
We had another great season with the Y
ORGANIZATION AND COMMUNICATION HAS BECOME HORRIBLE. SEASON INFORMATION IS SENT OUT LAST MINUTE. GAME DAY CHANGES ARE SENT OUT LAST MINUTE. PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGES ARE NEVER COMMUNICATED. AGE LIMITS, ROSTER SIZES AND ACTUAL ROSTER VERIFICATION ARE NOT MONITORED. STAFF DOESN'T MONITOR PRACTICE TIMES AND COACHES ARE CONSTANTLY HAVING TO BE REMINDED OF WHEN THEY NEED TO END PRACTICE. OVERALL THERE HAS BEEN A STEADY DECLINE IN HOW THE YMCA HAS BEEN RUNNING ITS SPORT SEASONS. SEEMS IT STARTS AT THE TOP AND FOLLOWS ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE ON SITE STAFF.
We won’t be coming back. This was our 7th season with the Y and the worst one yet. The rules were never the same. The kids couldn’t learn the rules because they were different every game. We were kicked out after our last game and the kids couldn’t enjoy their time because of an altercation that started from another team. Do better.
The front desk staff are amazing. Our soccer coach was very nice and patient with the children. The Child Watch staff are excellent with children. My granddaughter loves to gi to Child Watch!
Staff are friendly, cheerful, & helpful! Feel welcomed and enjoy the classes & instructors.
Childcare is exceptional! Facilities have everything you need.
Not enough offered classes during childcare hours, infant childcare is very subpar and gives me more anxiety than peace of mind, extremely unresponsive to social media messages
Price is reasonable. Could really use an indoor lap pool like Potranco.
some of the “senior” classes fill up in less than 5 min on the app. maybe add another class in the other room for the overflow? or is the room in the other building larger?
I’ve been to other gyms and they don’t compare to this YMCA
I attended classes Monday thru Friday. Sometimes the classes are hard to get in because too many people want to participate. Perhaps you should add more classes for the popular ones.
I recommend the Y to all the moms I know, specifically the OP Schnabel Y, because they have the best child care staff and most nurturing environment for kids. I might spend 23 hours per day with my kids, but for 1 hour, I can come and focus on my own health and wellbeing.
