An ab machine or assisted pull up machine would be a nice addition to the equipment offerings.
Wonderful range of equipment, clean and enjoyable space. Kind greeters at check in. The joys of a relaxing spa sauna experience
It would be very nice if a small, quiet room was available for meditation.
I like the scope of facilities available, and how clean the facility is. Having showers and lockers available is very convenient and makes a huge difference to me. I especially like the fencing program. Only improvement would be slightly longer hours in the evenings since I usually can't come in much earlier due to work and my workout routine gets a bit tight.
Facility is very nice - lots of cardio and weight training equipment available. Some great new class offerings too.
I am working near by (CalTrans) and my goal was to do some group exercises during lunch. There were 2 noon classes (Tuesday and Thursday) when I joined and I was told you will be adding more. Instead I see Thursday Pilates dropped one and now I feel that it is not worth paying monthly fee or 1 single class.
The hours are really bad, especially when you consider the price of the membership. With the recent announcement of membership fee increases, it is no longer worth it for me to stay a member.
I really like the proximity to my house, but I find myself going to the Alhambra gym due to better equipments. The weight machines are so old and when something breaks, it will literally takes months to be repaired.
The cleanliness is less than reliable as there are dust on most equipments and I often see the cleaning lady on the her phone in the break room talking or talking to people while the sanitizers are empty and so on.
I however love the people that go there and the pickle ball is amazing.
Also the desk people could be friendlier (a few are).
Sorry? But you asked for my opinion 😢
Tia Kilpatrick is a very gifted teacher. She is my motivation and inspiration
No water aroebics, no hair dryers, no swimsuit spinners!
I am down to support YMCA and what it stands for, but as a paying customer of the gym I would like there to be simple items. Hand soap in the restroom that doesn’t take more than a day to refill, sanitary wipes that are plentiful to wipe down my sweat, air conditioner that runs in the upstairs cardio room, and timely fixes to broken equipment.
It takes awhile for maintenance related items to get resolved.
The Pilates program is building with Tia, and with the addition of Dave Freker. It’s strong and the classes are top notch. I’d like to see more Zumba and other group ex classes added which are not for fee. That would get me to the gym more and attract new members.
Bad parking, otherwise great!
Friendly people, no egos or fitness cult-like behaviours. Close to everyone in midtown.
We need full size lockers. I use a regular Jansen size back pack and it cant even fot into the locker.
The pool is amazing, everyone is friendly, and Tia is the best Pilates instructor in California.
I sign up for a class and it’s constantly interrupted by other people entering the room for their personal workouts. Employees constantly playing with their personal cell phones instead of doing anything useful. People taking phone calls and shooting video in the weight rooms in violation of the rules. The Y has prioritized temporary pay-to-play classes over classes available for free to all members, even bumping existing classes out of established time slots for pay-to-play classes. Very frustrating for teachers and students. My wife and I were among the first enrollees at this location and we feel betrayed.
There are two major issues. Parking and lack of consistency in Pilates schedule. I registered for a Thurs class multiple weeks in a row and the day of the class would be cancelled. I wrote in asking whether more classes would be added and was ignored.
Tia teaches an excellent Reformers Pilates class. She is patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging. This is the only class I am taking at the Capital YMCA and recommend it.
I really appreciate the Pilates instruction and equipment. I often recommend that activity. The parking is challenging, the women’s spa area is boarded up and the existing spa and steam room are co-ef and seem unclean. So it is a mix
Brand new cardio equipment, lovely pool, full free weights set.
Not crowded. Plenty of weights and machines. Convenient location (if you don't have to park).
There has been an unpainted splotch of white in the main hall going toward the swimming pool. It has been there for months. I know funds are limited, but I have to say it doesn't look so great.
Stall in women’s bathroom didn’t have toilet paper on my first visit, on my second visit didn’t have seat covers. Could be cleaner.
The parking has been a problem since Day 1. As a former member of CAC, it was difficult but always possible to find a FREE place to park. When the Capital Y opened, it was also difficult but possible to find a PAID spot. Now it is impossible to find a PAID spot during a weekday. I drove around for 1/2 hour to find a spot and gave up. You might as well close during the weekdays.
The Y is affordable on a fixed budget, has great instructors and a large range of class offerings. In particular, Tia Kilpatrick and Jen Keith-Weaver provide excellent small group training. I also like the sense of community and have made many friends at the Y.
Great staff, excellent equipment, very clean shower and locker room. Although I don't swim, I never seen the pool in such better shape.
I love the Capital Y. Great chill vibe. Great instructors. Not too busy.
Better hours to access the gym when convenient.
I love swimming in an outdoor pool!
YMCA membership is reasonable compared to nearby gyms. The workout environment fits what I like to do and it is a total luxury, after exercising, to be able to relax in the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room.
Equipment failures are frequent and repair is very slow
The hours seem to be going the wrong way. The facility is not as clean as it was in its Capital Athletic Club days. Seems to be much less effort going into it than the W St location which is better maintained and supported.
The facility isn't very clean (there are never wipes available) and I got the run around on applying my eligible discounts and the staff not being able to receive emails that were sent with the information needed to apply the discount. And the lifeguards often seem distracted and chatting with each other which is concerning when there are people in the sauna area. It may be the culture but I wouldn't recommend the facility to my coworkers or family. It suits my needs within my overall gym schedule and the location is close to where I work during the week.
It was a very nice facility, clean, modern machines, and friendly staff.
Great place, parking hard and expensive
I swim regularly and the pool is great.
Has something for everyone. Staff is always there to help you
Friendly place. My wife and I much enjoy the water arthritis class with Pat Wolfe. She is spectacular. And I have gotten back into swimming laps thanks to her. The lifeguards are always very helpful.
No parking
Very affordable and great sense of community
So I don’t like having to sign up on your apps for everyday classes. It puts me off exercising. I could easily spend the money I donate to the Y on a personal gym and trainer. Your gym at the w street Y is filthy and the weight equipment is old, however your teachers and students create a warm atmosphere.
My biggest problem signing up with the app is that it is not user friendly. Also my husband doesn’t like to have to sign up using technology. Finally other than for the reformer class or other classes where machines are involved, I can’t really see a reason for sign up's other than tracking people and sending countless emails.
Have a way for members to submit comments/concerns to managers (several of the stationary bikes need repair -- can't increase the resistance), have trainers or someone available to show me how to use different the equipment without my having to buy training sessions. Have adult water aerobics (or similar) classes in the pool.
Great value for a senior, convenient for me, facilities mostly good
I liked that the weight machines are new and very smooth to operate. I’m excited about the outdoor lap pool. Also the air conditioning is very good! Only the parking is a problem.
Although I think the facility is wonderful, the lack of parking prevents me from using the facility on a daily basis. The street parking adds up! Also, I like group classes and there just isn’t the variety like at the Superior location. I imagine the lack of classes is due to lower volume, and lower volume is due to lack of parking
I like the Pilates class and equipment
Why does the warmup and kettlebell area get closed during group classes? Also it’s weirdly quiet in the gym, could you play music? I’d recommend the Y for the price and location
Very nice staff. Clean. Well maintained.
