I love the community spirit at yhe Y. There really is something for everyone. The instructors are great!
The change rooms in men’s plus are falling apart. Either sauna, steam room or whirlpool isn’t working on any given day. There are drain flies in the showers.
The community is great, all my coworkers make me feel like family!
Keep all the equipment working all the time. Mens Plus often has one section not working.
Fix the dry sauna
Your public bathroom is disgusting and never gets cleaned. It needs someone professionally to come in and deep clean it.
The services provided are excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful.
No information/tour upon purchasing membership - I had no idea where I was going/where things were located
I was happy with how much it wasn’t busy and the machine were always available.
I use the pool almost every day. i have consistently asked that the music that is played needs to be easy listening. It is often too loud and the content upsetting to the point of my workout being stressful rather than positive and relaxing.
I have been a y member for over 40 years and my Y involvement has enabled me to have a very fit body and mind. Thank you Centre Branch.
Although I reside in the SW quadrant of London, I continue to hold an Everything Membership at the Centre Y. It has been a familiar and welcoming facility with programs offered by staff that recognize and meet my needs. My membership of 30+ years is valued for my physical, social and overall health needs. I appreciate the added perks of the women's changeroom including whirlpool, sauna, steam room and space for changing and conversing with other members. The Y mission and philosophy resonate also with my values.
The facility is updated, lots of rust of some equipments and even in the washroom
It is my second home as I have been a member for over 50 years.
Cost -$16 dollar day pass is too high
The Central YMCA in London is an importat part of the heartbeat of the downtown. It attracts a broad cross-section of participants and encourages a sense of community and connection. The Y draws people together in an inclusive way, emphasizing health and wellness for all!
I don’t think it’s maintained very well. I’m the men’s change room, there is gum that’s been on the floor since I started going there two years ago. Often times the towel dispensers are empty. Machines don’t get fixed quickly. I’m planning to cancel my membership, actually.
The building cleanliness is not very good. Machines that are out of service seem to take forever to get repaired. I would suggest (in my opinion) that the general mood of the membership is poor and some have suggested that it is only a matter of time before the building closes. It makes it hard to get excited about coming to the Y. I already experienced the closing of the Bob Hayward and if this one closes then I will be done with the Y.
Love the facility and staff but the constant price increases are
Despite the fact that the physical plant is wearing down and something seems to be always broken, the Y has been and continues to be a great community asset, a place where all are welcome.
Multipurpose facility and great staff😀
need more parking spaces , free membership fpr seniors
The women’s plus shower is dirty.
The plus membership is supposed to include towels but I noticed that everyone is using them!
All the staff are very friendly and helpful. I just use the pool to swim laps but I used to use the gym a few years ago and I remember it was well maintained with up-to-date equipment. One day I might try one of the classes. (You Made It Cafe has a very good selection of food/snacks and beverages. Their staff are very nice and helpful.)
I enjoy all the facilities available.
I like the friendly staff, the cleanliness of all the building and the reasonable cost to seniors and programs they offer
lane swimming- wish pool was open longer hours
As a member of plus, many of the facilities are often out of order. A renewal program would benefit our Y.
I love our downtown Y and we have been members for more than 2 decades but lately I find myself going to the other branches as the facilities are newer, the equipment works and there are new bits of equipment for me to try and it's bright. Our downtown Y needs a facelift - badly :)
Best location with semi private hot tub steam room and sauna. Staff also great
Not enough free time for people needing the pool for therapy I had knee surgery and the times for free swim is limited
The staff, volunteer and staff instructors are wonderful!
It has a great culture. Sure building is tired etc but the people make up for it. City/Police/ etc needs to do more to enforce/remove junkies. I acknowledge supports are required… but those struggling with addiction/mental health are causing businesses to close or relocate and creating normalcy where young school children and teens and the elderly, have to navigate around these people on their way to school or to community programs or to patronize local businesses . Who has more rights???? This is unacceptable and will only cause downtown to deteriorate further. A healthy core is essential to a healthy city. It is terrible near the branch. Charitable organizations, and small businesses, local hotels, restaurants deserve better! Community citizens and business owners are fed up.
Facilities and equipment poorly maintained.
I really appreciate the steam room, sauna and whirlpool. This is something you usually only find in high end gyms.
Couldn't ask for a better staff team to support our community needs!
I truly wish my answer were a 10, but there are deficits that need to be addressed. Parking is often difficult to find, when up to 50% of the lot is being used by non-members (no parking pass displayed) or members who aren't using the facilities. I have witnessed people parking and dashing off to downtown. I am waiting for knee replacement surgery and it's so disheartening to see the parking facilities being exploited like this. It would be so easy to enforce, especially with the new display passes. I hear other members complain about it too. The fall and winter pool hours are very restricted for employed members. The pool is busy and extended hours would really help.
Staff and members are very friendly. Facilities are great.
Parking has improved but still an issue for people who need accessible spaces. Parking in the underground is not acceptable. Also lights in the underground need to be kept working!
i think the building needs a lot of updating - it is dark and is kind of depressing.
Equipment is old and need of updating. Hours on the weekends is too short.
Keep longer hours
Friendly staff, eager, always helpful.
Squash programming and culture.
I like the gym. My only mild concern is towel cleanliness as sometimes they are discolored.
I’d also like to see more selection of machines such as a squat machine
Friendly, helpful staff, wonderful instructors, nice mix of ages
The entire facility requires deep cleaning and a third party contract for cleaning may be needed at the facility as with other downtown YMCAs with a similar amount of amenities. The staff do their best efforts to keep up but the attention to detail is not there other than one key maintenance employee. I find the gym to be a health risk from the cleaning standards currently on hand. Steam rooms, showers and locker rooms require cleaning every few hours not every few weeks.
Many members feel the current setup on the fitness floor has a bad flow. Squat racks should not be against mirrors. Dumbbells should be against mirrors and squat racks behind as all other facilities do. The gym floor could also use some generic music as the vibe is off overall and I’ve heard this from other members as well.
Swimming pool water temperature for lane swimming in the mornings is not consistent and is often to warm. Proper lane swimming temperature is 77-82F or 25-28C for a healthy work out. Often I work out with other swimmers and they are also experiencing the same frustration as I am. Before 2025 the pool temperature was in this range. (30-year member of Centre Branch Y.)
Its a very friendly place to be and people are helpful 😊
Aquafit and Open Swim
Front desk staff and lifeguards are friendly and welcoming, plus the lifeguards are very attentive and obviously well trained, which is a great asset. Happy to see that swimming lessons have not compromised lane swimming.
However I still hold the same concerns with regards to the cleanliness of the women’s plus shower area…bugs, regular cleanliness of the floor/drains. I have killed at least 70 to 80 bugs this month. The stairwell leading down to the pool often has a pungent odour…possibly urine..hard to walk through holding your breath..possibly connected to the return of participants from the aqua fit classes. When an employee rinses the stairwell with pool water the odour is somewhat resolved. When someone from maintenance uses a cleaning product, the odour is completely resolved. Perhaps a system could be put in place so we don’t have to experience that anymore.
Great staff and programs. Fun place to be!
