My daughter enjoys swimming lessons this year and has had a great experience with her instructor. Right now there are only lessons on Wednesday's and Saturday's, adding another day during the week would be great.
My son's swimming lesson instructor Caroline is absolutely wonderful, she is patient and kind and speaks to the children in a way they really listen and enjoy
it is CHAOS trying to sign in kids at the same time other families are signing them out! Super small detail, but a bit of a pain point.
The swimming pool is cold. During infant lessons they are often shivering and cold. During older lessons I have noted my child is less likely to go in the water because it's cold and they don't enjoy it. I love the ramp going in makes it easily accessible. Also wish it was hotter in the change room because the kids often become upset because they are cold changing.
The instructors are great, nice small classes. Good times that overlap with childminding/ kids drop off so we can combine it with our workout as parents.
I love that they are thought out and staff work hard to pull it off.
Instructor is very friendly and great with kids. Very laid back and relaxed environment
I love it!
Variety and good instructors
The opportunity for my children to participate in SwimAble. It's been a great way for them to build confidence and skills.
The facility first of all. The pool staff are exceptional. Glad to see adult swim lessons. How ever you need to advertise that as I only heard about it from a member of the public
I recently enrolled in the beginner adult swimming classes, and I'm absolutely loving it! The instructors are super patient and encouraging, and the atmosphere is friendly and supportive. I already feel more confident in the water and look forward to every class. Highly recommend their aquatic programs!
They're inclusive & staff are friendly.
The space is lovely; great family change rooms and a really fun instructor. Small class size, lots of extra eyes/life guards. Great equipment for teaching.
The instructor has been incredible, making our kids feel comfortable in the water while playing and learning to swim. We have had an incredible experience
Kids programs so I can go to the gym. And Barry the swimming instructor is incredible. Pay him more
I enjoy the time we can spend together. For me it is just finding time, and a program. I am sort of shy, and self-conscious, but I know I need to find that drive in me to get out and get healthy! I love when I can take a friend, and show them the place, and talk to them about joining. I feel we have a strong need for keeping our young active and out of trouble! It has been good for us!
Expand the offerings. Kids go to their other parents on Saturdays. There's almost no chance to get into a class on a Wednesday. I'm not putting my 7 year old in a730pm class. That's ridiculous.
When my son was trying to take the lifeguarding courses, we would go to the pool so that he could practice and gain the endurance needed for the lap times. There were many weeks we came where he couldn't get in and lane sharing was not enforced. Or in a two hour scheduled lane swim, the lane 'might' have opened up in the last 15-20 minutes. When we drive into town specifically to swim... this becomes a wasted trip and we eventually gave up. Although my son wanted to take his full lifeguarding... without the practice time he didn't have the confidence to go any further. I also enjoy lap swimming... but there needs to be proper swim etiquette to make that enjoyable. On the other hand, when my daughter was able to get into swim lessons, she really enjoyed them and it built up a lot of confidence. We missed the deadline for winter and the class was already full, but we may try again in future. Or if private lessons are offered, we would be happy to utilize those.
The cost of swimming lessons is prohibitively expensive for many local rural families, and why we won't be signing up for as much swimming lessons as we want to. I.e. We can't afford taking swimming lessons more than one time a year, which is unfortunate because we would sign up more if we could.
The quality of instructors and small class sizes.
SWO YMCA has created a negative, hostile environment where myself and children have been singled out, defamed, ostracized, and all around bullied so one manager can hold a false sense of power and gratification from harming a single mom and her children. The lies and libel that has come from your manager Jordan about ME, has now caused my 4 year old to be villainized, ostracized and bullied. We have not been treated fairly. Had the initial issue been addressed further harm would not have insued. Treat me however you want, I'm an adult and I can't handle it. A 4 year old, can not.
Kids swimming lesson nights are a nightmare need more room for showering, dressing kids ie… bigger more efficient family change rooms or utilize the other change rooms at those times
Wonderful instructors and lifeguard staff. Classes were very enjoyable. I'm so happy with my new swimming skills and look forward to spending more time at the Y pool.
available. Lifeguards take their jobs seriously and keep watch over all patrons. They don't worry about socializing or scenery. They teach skills and strokes and guide students to their full potential. They don't waste time and keep on schedule to get kids progressing at a good pace
The swimable program has not only taught my kiddo new skills, the encouragement he has received from the entire pool staff when he attends his lessons has built his confidence and he is more willing to try new things and ask questions. He is excited because they are excited too.
Enthusiastic staff!
Really awesome
Great instructors, wonderful facility, kids always have fun during class.
Monthly fees for single service access. Instructors are amazing and valuable. Thank you!
The instructor was great and my child wants to come back for more lessons. Kind and courteous personnel at the front desk. Lots of options to choose from.
Lovely space; lovely staff; clean comfortable family change rooms. Daughter enjoyed it so much. Other things for me and siblings to do on-site
I really like our local YMCA because it offers a wide range of activities and programs for all ages. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Whether I want to swim, work out, or join a class, there's always something available. Plus, it's a great place to meet new people and be part of the community. The YMCA truly makes staying active and healthy enjoyable. Tracey Bedard Owner The Mystical Willow
The sign in/out always feels hectic. Maybe have an additional person to help so it isn't both the leaving and coming people all at once, or have the older kids move down the deck so it isn't congested
The sign in/ sign out process for swimming lessons is cumbersome. Especially with a squirming toddler in hand. Just make it one signature.
Pool has malfunctioned, I'm not sure how that can be improved
Very little communication and voicemails rarely responded to. Very young staff and minimal communication with progress
My daughter is enjoying the swimming lessons and has progressed really far. My daughter and I also enjoys the time in the leisure pool. Disappointed the lifeguard club was cancelled due to low attendance, but son is considering advancing his to bronze cross. The only reason I give a 9 instead of a 10 is for the lane swim. It seems that some swimmers take the lane for the entire swimming time (often two hours) even if there are other people waiting for the lane. I've also observed some people doing exercises in the shallow part of the lane, cling to the edge of the deep end for extended periods of time (30+ minutes) or just floating and even socializing with the lifeguard in the lanes - when that could be activities could be accommodated on the leisure side. When it comes to lane sharing, I've been told by the life guard to come back as a particular person 'is like swimming beside the wake of a boat' i.e. splashes around and doesn't share well - the lifeguard also told me that person planned to swim for two hours and to come back later. As I live out of town and work around my kids activities in town - this was less than convenient. Although my plan is now to bring both my gym and swim clothes so that I can be more flexible. I suppose the reason why this has been annoying is that my son needs to get his stamina up in order to further his lifeguarding training. If we come during the lunch hour swim time, often we are there the entire time and he gets 15 minutes before the pool closes to work on his lengths - if he gets any time at all. At this point, my son has doubts he will pass. Too bad lifeguard club didn't move forward b/c then kiddos would have had designated lane time to get ready for the next levels. Feeling a bit defeated about it. As it stands, I can't figure out a solution that works within our schedule. However, I don't think the issue is with the YMCA programming or your wonderful life guards. I think it comes down to etiquette on behalf of the patrons - lane sharing and courtesy for other who are waiting.
Main issue is all the random shutdowns of the pool. Ya never know if it will be open sometimes due to short staffing or someone puking etc
The kids membership is way too expensive just for swimming lessons.
The quality of instructors has been much better, more engaged and energetic with young kids and I've seen improvements in my child's swim class.
Pool access is improving but still quite limited. Greater access to open swim times (evenings, Sundays) Instructors are improving, but quality is not at a level where I could highly recommend the lessons. Hot tub is still closed, no clear communication on status or anticipated resolution date. Showers with adjustable temperature would be nice
We think the swimming lessons are great and the kids are enjoying it. They really like their instructors.
Something for everyone! I just wish they had a membership for those who may just want to use the pool. I think you would get sooooo many more members if you had a membership for just the pool! I have the everything but I use everything so it's worth it for me but so many people have said they would get a membership if they had one for just the pool
Great lifeguard staff who are very good with children. Hands on approach to learning in the pool and the kids have had a blast. Better than other swim lessons we've had at other facilities.
Having the pool available in evenings when skate, or another program are on. If your child is a Program assistant, 3 hours sitting in the cold is a lot, for someone with old bones.
More lifeguards so pool can stay open.
You guys aren't following the guidelines set out for each level. You have kids in star 1 and 2 wearing a belt which means they can't swim 25 metres. The swimming instructor has to spend more time on them
Have more activities after school for children to go to
Kevin is great teaching the kids. However, the rest of the instructors could be more involved with pushing the kids as the classes seem to lack structure and minimal progress is being seen. It would be great if private lessons could be offered for more individual attention to help push the kids to improve and more opportunities for rec swim during hours that are child friendly (3:30-7pm). At the moment, it seems like the kids are not doing very much in the water and the class doesn't seem very effective.
