I joined the YMCA specifically for the aqua fitness classes and swimming for labs. I am utterly disappointed by the lack of classes that are offered for any aqua zumba, aqua combat or aqua fitness for this location. The class times that aew offered seriously do not work well for someone who has a long working day. You might want to consider offering classes maybe later in the evening as as well as the morning times. Please work on getting some more aqua instructors for more classes. The current schedule is pretty pathetic.
I have shared with many people about Potranco YMCA.
I was a part of May Portranco before and had to take a break but I always spoke highly of the helpful staff and the amenities at this location. The place is clean although at times there are days where it could use a little more especially with flu season coming.
The area was clean. Lots of equipment and space. Much better than my home YMCA in Schertz. The only issue I had while I was there was not being able to utilize WiFi.
Doesn’t make sense that the older someone is the membership price is higher.
Diversity of clients to include young, old, families, singles. Diversity of classes to include line dance, zumba, aqua, weights. Knowledgeable, professional and motivated instructors. Inez with Silver Sneakers is dearly appreciated.
Scholarship program for reduced pricing, pool hours are plentiful, family locker rooms. Clean and welcoming environment
It’s been a wonderful experience getting to know the teachers and attendees for both Boot Camp and Zumba!
Convenient location, friendly staff, a variety of events, programs and classes, as well as clean facility.
Te family restrooms are outdated and they’re not clean, the showers are dirty, the plastic curtains aren’t in good condition and I saw two man with no kids using the family restrooms
All of the activities
Went to this location for an inbody scan. I usually do these at the O.P Schnabel location. The staff member at the desk was not very welcoming and look slightly annoyed when I asked if someone could help me with my scan. He said that he would send someone over who came about 7-10 mins later. The man helping with the scan was discernibly upset when I ask to use the restroom before getting on the scale, I had been nervous about my results and forgotten to go. After I did the scan he told me to put on my shoes while he preceded to review my scan results printout. This made me uncomfortable as I feel that this is sensitive information that I don’t share freely with those who are not on a “need to know” basis. When I said thank you and reached for my sheet, he grunted acknowledgment and handed it to me as if annoyed/put out. Then I left the facility and I hope not to have to return.
The size
It's difficult to get into many SIlver Sneakers classes as they fill up very quickly. I would also like more water aerobics or exercise classes. Oh, and Adrian was late to the pool on Thurday.
I recently had an increase in the fees but learned that my income will be cut drastically by $600 in the near future. I don't qualify for assistance from the YMCA so I may have to in cuts to my own budget have to forego my membership. My friends are struggling in this economy so it doesn't make much sense to recommend it.
Needs a sauna. Group exercise for disabled teenagers+ somehow (ex; neurodivergents) just to get movement and out of the house
I used to love this location but they have removed Les Mills from the evening group ex line up. Body combat is only available Monday evening. And many of the options available during the day are virtual.
Aqua fit classes keep getting canceled and it would be nice to know why and if the class will be added in the future.
Child care, and kids care. The best. Thank you
I was very disappointed with the quality of the swimming lessons for my 11 month old. There were no songs, no cute activities to make it fun, no special equipment we don't have at our HOA pool... I might as well teach him myself and then it would be free.
Everyone friendly and several senior exercise classes.
Cleanliness
Only Y in my area and so glad it is here!
Childcare personnel not caring about children and family shower cleaning
I like that the facility is clean, the staff are friendly and enforce the rules, and the price is affordable.
The personal training package is very reasonable and I am very satisfied with my results.
I've attended a few classes at the Y, but I especially love the encouragement and instruction I get in Kari Thomas' classes. She creates a fun environment and is extremely helpful and careful with how she instructs us regarding proper form.
Amenities are seriously lacking. Restrooms ( showers or stalls) always out of order.
I love going to classes at my YMCA. The only weak point I have seen is the availability of subs to fill in for instructors that are occasionally out, especially aqua exercise classes.
i enjoy the services that allow for families to
come and benefit together. be it child care, camps, or classes
It’s hard to get a reservation for the classes I want because they are full within 10 minutes of opening. It would be nice if some of the music played in class was in English.
Wife and I enjoy swimming and appreciate the times available to accommodate us
The gym is cold.
Instructors are friendly and always happy. They instruct while giving class so that you know why you are doing certain exercises.
I like everything and everyone except the dirty tiles around the pool. That would make it a 10.
I feel a since of family and community feel like i belong.
I love how big the facility is. I love that I can workout, put my kids in the child watch, then take them swimming at the pool. We are there from 10-3:30 on Mondays. I love how clean the gym is.
I would like the pool schedule to be easier to understand online. Online literally starts at 5am and lists every YMCA pool hour by hour. It takes a lot of scrolling down to find the Potranco pool schedule times and open swimming that I’m searching for.
Also, the workout classes weren’t updated online. I ended up getting paper copies of pool schedule and workout class schedules in person
The staff is standoffish, not really friendly. A friendly smile would be welcoming. Maybe eye contact. My wish would be that y’all get a sauna and steam room. When we were signing up the gal helping us seemed super bothered and borderline rude or annoyed. It was weird. But my sons really wanted to join so I ignored her tude. She also didn’t volunteer information about being a USAA member and that membership. We only knew because the bank informed us about it.
Clean. Organized. Well equipped. Helpful and welcoming staff.
I’m really benefiting from the water workouts.
Friendly admmosphere
Love the Y!
Too many people are sitting at and occupying the machines in the weight room by looking at their phone. My wife and I are considering going to another facility as a result. I understand resting between sets for recovery but too many people are selfishly spending excessive time staring at their phone.
Two sets of mats are both against a wall. They need more breathing space. I like the wet wipes to clean spaces as opposed to the spray and paper towels y'all have. Staff may be mindful that moping in active spaces makes it slippery and a safety hazard.
The staff is incredible but the leadership is VERY disappointing. An instructor was fired a few days ago for asking very disrespectful members to move towards the back during a class because they were doing their own thing. These people complained and the instructor got fired on the spot. 12 years of her life thrown for disrespectful people and a very awful leadership. Jamie has proven over and over again that her leadership has failed the gym and its community. Hoping to see a change in that soon.
My recommendation was a 9-10 recently until a week or two ago. My classes were cancelled and a great instructor was let go. I have yet to receive a response from higher up and then a new trainer either racially or age or just randomly kicked my family out of class citing policy and she was wrong.
We have been members for over 4 years. I always recommend the Y- I feel hurt and let down and my family felt like they did something wrong- when they did not
I’ve been really impressed with the progress my 4-year-old has made in swimming lessons. In a short time, they’ve gained confidence in the water and learned important foundational skills in a safe and supportive environment. It’s been amazing to watch their comfort and ability grow each week, and I’m so proud of how much they’ve learned.
I’ve only used the pool area, but that area is great!
It looked nice—this was our first time there but I got the childcare hours wrong so we stayed to play for a little bit then planned to go. I had to change my baby and didn’t realize there was a puddle of mildewy water on the baby changing station in the locker room until after I put my baby there. It was gross. The station had been left down and I suspect someone had left their wet clothes on it while they were getting ready to leave and it never got cleaned up after.
Always a family friendly staff. Clean area/equipment. My kids love it with all the events. How could you not like the library.
