Professional & friendly.
Previously, we really had a nice experience at Princeton YMCA. My son had a continuety
Clean and well trained staff
After Lauren and Brandon has joined in The aquatics program has turned a new leaf.
More consistently in teacher from week to week; clearer curriculum and expectations.
Dressing rooms and facilities need to be updated
Teacher quality seems lower than at other YMCAs, and teachers do not discuss student progress or next steps with parents. At other YMCAs I felt a higher level of teacher engagement and enthusiasm with students and parents, however this YMCA does not provide that. Also, classes have been cancelled in the past with no notifications to parents, and unclear communications about make-up classes. I'm also surprised at the methods teachers are using to teach diving to students, with teachers placing students new to diving right on the diving block. This is before students even learn how to dive by sitting/ standing on the edge of the pool. It's been ineffective at teaching my daughter how to dive, and not the way I've seen it taught more effectively at other YMCAs. Overall, I appreciate how close this YMCA is to my home, and the variety of class days/ times, however I may look elsewhere for higher quality instruction.
Lack of communication and consistency in the instructors and times. I know there is a change in management but it's been challenging for our family
Coach leaving midway, no proper communication regarding swim meets, volunteering etc. Poor old facilities.
My instructor is patient and very attentive. She points out what i’m doing wrong and helps me correct it. She always tells me the progress i have made in the class which is very encouraging and reassuring.
You have a good service
Started swimming lessons for the first time for our 4 year old son. There was no specific instructor the for first 2 weeks and we had to wait beyond the start time. Our son loves swimming but doesn't like swimming lessons so far which is hard!
Always willing to work with parents and try to be flexible as mucnas possible. Wonderful instructors for swimming classes
I’m glad there are programs available. There could be more instruction.
We wanted to learn swimming but the instructors assigned were new and kids with no experience of teaching. Entire waste of money.
The classes never start on time and keep getting cancelled.
We started attending in April and I made my feelings known to whoever was in charge of the time and it seems like things have only gotten worse. I understand as a transition going on right now, but it’s very unorganized. I’ve never known any of my kids swimming instructors names except for one, there’s no lane signs that tell you which class goes where. I feel my son has regressed here. The Mt Laurel Y that we came from was top notch. the instructors don’t correct The kids and I feel the instructors need more instruction themselves in all honesty. Last week was our last class there and I saw another parent that was upset about how bad he felt the instruction was for his son, I will not be going back to Princeton for swim lessons as of right now we will be going to Hillsborough. I am 100% sure that there have been other complaints. The sad thing is because of management. We know that this isn’t going to change so.
The basket ball session for kids is going great. Swimming session is a challenge as every time new trainer is there and not much progress. also, scheduling was a challenge due to multiple reasons and wrong contact information from YMCA Princeton.
I like the relaxed atmosphere at Princeton but at the same time all the trainers are super kind to our daughter. They also help her promote from to a higher level during last training cycle which boosted her morale a lot. She is trying to be regular these days. The timings of the program are also good and the member charges are also good.
The pool and the staff. They are very nice...
I am very pleased with the lessons my daughter has been receiving. Her instructor is patient, gentle and explains steps in ways my daughter can relate to. I would definitely recommend this program to any parent who is interested in joining.
Pool has limited lanes and at times becomes very crowded.
level-based approach, friendly and positive environment with level-appropriate challenge, group spirit, fun!
The pool packs general cleanliness. It's awful in the change rooms. You could find rats poop there too.
We had a good experience with the instruction. But the communication is terrible. I emailed and left voicemails multiple times with no replies. (An exception is Cindy, who was good about responding to emails). I found the only way to get a response was to call the front desk, but there are limits to what they can do. Even when things were scheduled, the organization seemed shaky. Well-meaning and friendly, but it seems like not fully on top of scheduling and staffing.
The efforts coaches put into the programs, flexibility of the schedules.
The program is run by teenagers that seem more concerned about the other teenagers than the students. Instructors provided very little motivation to the students, and did not seem knowledgeable about what they were doing. The classes often started late and ended early, and management was not present to keep track of the instructors work, or to answer questions from parents. Truly a terrible experience.
The basic stuffs are not taken attention 1) Head injury risk occurs due tot the fact if 2 swimmers swims in same lane in opposite direction. I see many a times life guard is not even blowing whistle or help 2) The 6 weeks program the tutors are outside the pool giving instructions not going or helping kids to swim in proper way. 3) while jumping the kids are not taught the technique of how to jump they randomly jump and it will create injury to their legs and stomach. Landing technique with proper posture is not taken care
The availability of many sessions from which to choose is good.
Some of the instructors seem more interested in singing along to lady Gaga than teaching the kids and monitoring them
great and friendly instructors
There is no signage near the lanes to inform parents what class is where.(white board with level and instructor name) I do not know any of the instructors names. Class began late. At times the younger kids were all being sent out to swim at once instead of taking turns. A lifeguard had to correct some of the instructors it's was just kind of a mess. We came from Mt. Laurel YMCA and I noticed a difference instantly. Princeton seemed very unorganized which is somewhat concerning. I've talked to multiple families who decided not to enroll their children again due to a number of different reasons. I hope things can be improved over the next week or 2.
Natalie the swim instructor did not and has not introduced herself, she doesn't speak during class and looks disinterested in being there. Anika is great. She engages and takes her time with the kids. She took the time to learn everyone's name.
Princeton YMCA has the best swimming instructors for young kids. Amanda Alvia-Smith is a great instructor and so thankful for her patience and consistency with my daughter. In a year, my daughter can swim multiple laps and I enjoy seeing her glide in the water while swimming backstroke.
teachers are not consistent. There does not seem to be an curriculum that they follow.
dont wanna say
Individual attention and respectful and caring way to kids.
A child vomited in the pool and the lesson was ended. Not a great look for a first day.
locker room and bathrooms are not clean and outdated
Please update shower curtains and shower , its terrible and embarrasing. My son couldn t take a proper shower since the flow is so powerful , there are no shower heads.
Helpful, courteous, knowledgeable.
Very nice place for kids and my kid like it, her tutor is the best and all staffs are extremely good and supportive.
My daughter was enrolled in the Swimmers' Endurance and Stroke and Turn Clinic, but the YMCA was completely unprepared and unaware that the program was even scheduled. Four weeks in, they are still failing to provide proper instruction or coaching. The coach remains by the wall, offering little to no feedback beyond instructing the swimmers to complete 300s. As a result, the swimmers, focused solely on making it across the pool, are reinforcing poor technique. After speaking with the director, she acknowledged the issue but attributed it to their initial lack of awareness about the program. While that may explain the disorganization in the first week, it is unacceptable that the problem has yet to be resolved.
Many of the men's lockers are in bad condition or non-usable.
The instructor is great and very engaging with the students.
We've tried many aquatic programs around Princeton with our three boys - Princeton YMCA worked best for us. The boys have made solid progress with their swimming, they enjoy their group lessons and swim team experience.
More options for group coaching with lesser number of kids and options for private lessons
Temperature of the natatorium was unpredictable, mostly driven by the temperature of the air, not the water. Some Saturdays it was good and some Saturdays it was very cold, especially for my 1 year old. It impacted the parent/child class because on cold days, she didn't want to get out of the water and let go of me to do the jumps off the edge of the pool. Otherwise, we enjoyed the class and instructor!
My daughter has bad experience with coach Zamir for 2 consecutive sessions. Amanda was very good
It is a short class and while the kids are young, I think instructors could be more mindful that families are paying essentially $30 for 30 minutes
