I really enjoy my time at the Y. I have sampled a few classes and regularly attend the Tuesday Thursday PM water aerobics class, which I absolutely love!

My only disappointment is that classes are scheduled primarily for retired members. There is not much offered on Monday, Wednesday or Friday evenings, after 6:30, or on the weekends, when I can attend.

I love the water aerobics class on Tues/thurs nights ! Staff is friendly and helpful. Love the balance and fall prevention classes.

The staff is helpful and courteous. The gym is clean and fairly up-to-date. The pool is heated. Kaiser helps pay for it since I'm 65.

Have a process to let management know when equipment is broken. Several of the stationary bikes have been broken (can't adjust the resistance) for many months/1 year+ Have appointments available for trainers/staff to show members how to use the equipment. Group fitness classes in the pool.

Friendly, informed staff and clean facility. Lots of cardio equipment as well as weights.

I would like to talk to a manager about the raise in dues. While I understand the need for money, several senior citizens that I know from water arthritis and water aerobics are not able to pay more. I think that Ther should be no higher dues for seniors who come for medical reasons or the need for water classes to be social. Please have someone respond to me. Melissa McElheney 916.205.0317

Equipment maintenance has been a big challenge the last six months. When there is limited equipment to begin with, having machines down for months is simply unacceptable.

Honestly, I heard from my wife that you are going to be updating the cardio room. This is a huge plus because not only is it poorly ventilated and way way way too hot when you’re actually trying to go on a run on these treadmills, but some of the equipment does seem a little bit antiquated. There’s at least one treadmill that is substantially slower than the others. But, it’s adequate. The main thing is the AC. There’s no reason for a modern day facility to have to rely on a couple of slowly revolving fans when people are trying to go on a 5 mile run or more. Apart from that, I find the facility and all of the people who work there absolutely lovely. Your AC just sucks a bag of slugs. Big slugs.

Friendly staff, availability of machines, clean environment

In general, I love both central Ymca and capitol ymca. However, I have notes for capital Ymca, please post the schedule of weekly classes on at least two or three of the bulletin boards upstairs so it is easy to find out about updates to the weekly schedule. Please fix the air-conditioning in the exercise room upstairs. Please find a more serious way to notify people of the ongoing closures in the pool. I understand that you have trouble getting lifeguards to show up, but when it is closed, you should put an extra big sign on the front door and you should find a way to post it on your website and you should put out a plastic sign at the front desk. I think it’s disrespectful to people who are coming to swim for you to act like it doesn’t matter if you close it.

The variety of locations and the quality and variety of the workout equipment. I appreciate the focus on classes for "seniors".

Parking is a problems. Large trucks and SUVS squeeze into the very narrow parking spaces which prevent others autos from parking. The upper parking lot is in desperate need of restriping. Accessibility is a problem. Accessable entry is through the pool on the lower level. The pool deck is wet and really not safe for those with mobility issues.
Staff are friendly. Class instructors are engaging and knowledgable.

I like the fact that I am supporting and part of my local community. And I really like the pool.

I have been surprised that the Y is all about community and members welcoming everyone. I'm making exercise friends at every class I attend.

I have been going to YMCA locations since I was young. I love the community and what the YMCA stands for. On 2 separate occasions there has been someone in locker area talking about harming women who are in relationships with women or men who are sinning as well. This person states that they are Gods soldier and rebuke all things “ungodly.” They just really seem to be agitated and it makes families including myself feel less safe. With prices going up in September I’am considering finding somewhere else to avoid this disruption:(

Upstairs can get stinky. The fans blow stinky sweat air around.

Love the Y and like working out with other people that also love this Y! The front desk staff are wonderful - very welcoming and take time to get to know you. I prefer some of the older equipment pieces over newer version at the downtown from an ergonomic workout perspective. Could use some sprucing up around the edges. Downtown location would benefit from the lobby a bit more welcoming...perhaps add round tables and chairs, some plants, lighting just a tad brighter,, low-volume music? Perhaps prioritize more outgoing staff for that important front desk role, reminding members they've just come through the doors of a Y :)

There are so many classes to choose from (something for everyone and every age), and all the ones I've tried have been great.

The equipment hasn’t been updated (especially superior) for example there isn’t an actual cycling bike like the ones in the cycling classes available in the main cardio areas. The classes are astronomical in pricing. Like $400 for a class per person. Like half that would be high but acceptable. This is someone who loves YMCA.

Get people working the front desk to be mindful of their demeanor. Ask instructor, Amy, to resist eye rolls.

Coffee is never made early morning these days like it used to, don’t have all the equipment recommended for workouts so need to improvise. But mostly the coffee, something I looked forward to my first 15 visits and they just stopped making it

Updating the strength equipment and having more variety in strength equipment. Also the children's care area is quite small.

On summer days, its hard to run on the treadmill because the room is not cool enough and the treadmills are by the window getting all the heat from outside

More intermediate level exercise classes for seniors.
Instructors that are trained and focus on proper and safe body mechanics. Mohammed and Amy are excellent examples.
Have instructors stick to class size limits in the Studios. The gym being an exception.
Have more hand weights. Participants take 2 pair of different weights which limits availability.

Everything! Personnel are helpful and friendly. The facilities are well maintained. Communications of upcoming events and ways to participate are always well done.

I really like the convenience of the Y and love the Water Arthritis class - Pat is such a good coach!

More dance-based classes. Evening dance classes are difficult for women with families. Dinner time. And really, most people can’t eat right before a dance class.

The biggest reservation I have is the severely outdated gym equipment and lack of plates in the weight room. I prefer the Capital location for that reason only

Since I'm new (sort of) I asked the young lady at the front desk if she had time to give me a brief in service on how to operate the stationary bikes. She was wonderful! So kind, patient and helpful. I also was happy that it wasn't too crowded on the day/time I went which is always a plus. Thank you.

More open swim slots from 5pm to 8pm.

My feedback to you is my bringing a guest or potential new member to your facility would not be possible. For starters, the lobby is so uninviting. The interior is ridiculously old and shabby and what few chairs that are in the lobby seem like they came out of a fast food restaurant. That is, they are metal, bulletproof, uncomfortable and uninviting to the member.
The equipment room is also pretty dismal. The “equipment out of order” signs on the equipment never seem to get resolved. One of the machines has had a sign on it since 2025. As of yesterday there were signs on 3 machines. One since December.

The showers are open. i have to get the chairs in order to excercise in the gym and put them back. Are the teachers certified.

The cardio room is so hot and the weight room downstairs is nice and cool. Why is that and how can we get the cardio room to be the temperature of the weight room? Especially when it’s 100 degrees outside. It’s not safe to run on a treadmill when it’s 80+ degrees inside.

I love the strength training classes taught by Lily but I wish you had more of this type in the afternoons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have voiced this request multiple times but nothing has come of it. The only increase I have seen is the small class that costs $400 dollars or so extra. Very disappointing.
