With recent equipment upgrades (for strength training), the gym is well equipped with multiple options for various exercises. The facility is clean and well-maintained, and avoids annoyances common to many commercial gyms, like unwanted music everywhere.
It's annoying to show up for lap swim, when the schedule says "all lanes available for lap swim" and yet - 2 lanes are not usable because of life saving lessons & family swim. I leave more often than i swim. So if you're a lap swimmer, Central Y is a huge disappointment
great staff and a welcoming community where seniors and kids can stay active
This is very good place for everyone to be healthy especially for kids. Staffs are very helpful and friendly.
I am just starting up again after four year absence. When I decided to come back, I did recommend my partner to join with me.
I love the clean facility, especially the pool! All of my encounters with the staff have been very cordial and the comradery amongst Y users is high.
I like the lift heavier sessons for older adults with Jen. She leads the group thru the exercises in the corrct way and corrects any errors. I also like the older building and the amazing maintance that you provide.
I so appreciate that there is a pool at the Y, but am frustrated by how often there are problems with the temperature of the water, and how frequently the pool gets closed (due to temps, lifeguards not showing up, etc.) without notification going out. The pool area is dirty, too (the top of the steps leading out of the pool are mildewy, and seem to never get cleaned), and the shower area seems unclean, too.
I am on Y- assist but during your rate change in September, my monthly fees doubled. I called and was told that it was an error and that I would be refunded money. That never happened. I was told my Y-assist would end in December and to re-enroll then. Then I was told by someone else that it ended in September. Then I got approved for 40% discount but my enrollment didn’t go down. It went up. Your accounting is so messed up. I’ve had so much trouble being overcharging. And it is impossible to get it fixed. W
Excellent pool and friendly staff.
I like the open class for women of aqua exercise. The instructor is both very good at leading a class with mixed abilities and also very kind. I come away knowing I had very good exercise. I feel refreshed in nody and mind!
Plenty of equipment. Nice selection of group fitness classes. Great atmosphere and clientele. (No gym bros) Nice community! I’d like it if things got fixed/cleaned a little faster and better (the sink in the downstairs women’s room and that bathroom in general) Also the floor in Studio A is really bad. But overall it’s my Y and i love it!
Wonderful introductions to this neighborhood gem when first it opened. Have not so far been able to make use of pool nor prepaid pilates session due to medical issues.
Gloria Powell
I like the swimming and wish there were more open swim time for my family.
I love the pool
I love the Arthritis Swim Class with Pat Wolfe
I especially like the water aerobics classes on Monday Wednesday and Friday with Pat Wolfe. She’s gentle but still has us working out. She makes us feel welcome as a new student. It was great exercise for my arthritis.
We’ve had a sub from the Tuesday Thursday class for Pat and I felt that I had to struggle to keep up.
I registered my grandson over the summer for the youth pickleball session and Coach Gail was fantastic for the ones learning how to play. My 7 year old grandson loved learning how to play pickleball.
I like the classes and the warm and friendly people who teach and eh attend those classes! And there are plenty of classes for all age levels!
warm vibe, but the women's locker room and shower room need a BIG RENOVATION
Love the Tues/Thurs. bootcamp with Hallie, and Sat. with Elias. I'm hoping that a yoga class can be added on Sundays!
I work And it's wonderful to be able to have something I can go to after work and caters to seniors, i would like chair yoga classes though. Hopefully in the future, aquaerobics greatThe circuit weight training's fantastic.Zumba was fun.I love the yoga but I can't really get off the ground comfortably.
Front staff are friendly and welcoming. The aerobic and stretch classes I've taken are always a good workout and also fun. And the exercise equipment is well maintained, and staff keep the temperature in the aerobics room at a comfortable level.
Some of my favorite classes have been canceled lately- some just for one class, but others permanently. We need another yoga class soon please!
I gave the YMCA Central Sacramento a 10 because they have aside range of costs, exercise rooms and equipment, helpful and friendly employees, and great teachers. The TaiChi class with teacher Stan on Tues and Thurs evenings is one of the best classes I have ever taken!
I like the friendliness of the staf and the wide variety of offerings. There truly is something for everyone. You get a lot of emotional support and friendship from those that attend.
This YMCA is great , everyone is helpful and the classes are amazing
Better ventilation in the gym.
I really enjoy the group fitness classes I take at Central YMCA - specifically, Pilates, Cycling, Strength & Mobility and Yoga. The instructors are so knowledgeable, caring and positive .... shout out to Tia, Mohammed, and Jensen in particular. The other members give this YMCA it's friendly, supportive vibe.
I have been a member since about 2002 when I retired and attend the water exercise classes. I enjoy the classes, but do not like the cool water temperature when you have have problems with the equipment. I am 86 years old and am sensitive to cool water so I like it WARM.
The main reason I attend is for water exercises, all levels. But the teachers don’t seem to keep up with more strenuous water exercises so it doesn’t always provide a challenge. Also, I realize the building is older and you guys don’t know where you will need a repair but i come from Rancho Cordova and it’s frustrating to get to the Y and see a sign that says the water is 78*. You used to send out texts, what happened to that policy?
Improve operational consistency.
Great instructors -- Tia, Teresa, and Elias especially...
Great classes and a community organization
The community spirit, the instructors and the diversity
Not enough parking, outdated equipment (benches ripping off), bathrooms not clean
I love the Y, which happens to only be a few blocks from my house (Sacramento Superior YMCA). I’d recommend it to any friend but also caveat my recommendation to explain its dated nature, as well as a fairly inconsistent AC (potentially related to how dated the facility is).
Excellent indoor pool, nice people, reasonable prices, a genuine community resource, not a for- profit corporation. When I use the Y, I feel a part of my community and connected to a bit of history. Also, I can’t emphasize enough how much I enjoy the indoor pool and how hard it is to find public indoor lap pools.
I like the location, services and facilities. Especially with the upgrades this Fall. The price is right for a two senior household.
Live doing aerobic classes in the pool. Great teachers
Leg machine nit very good, & people allowd to run around with no shirt on. Staff naping, resting at entry counter - a bit unproffesiinal.
I've been a member for about a month. I like it better than any gym I've ever belonged to. The people are great. The staff is great. And I don't' experience any sense of body competition. Just a friendly environment where people are enjoying taking care of them selves. It's so much nicer than the muscle head gym environments I am used to.
I use the pool nearly daily. The women’s showers need to be updated. The curtains are not covering enough , shower heads are old and water is rough, there is also a lack of hooks. Please know, the ymca central staff and lifeguards are incredibly nice and the main reason I would recommend this ymca to others.
Love the new pickle ball courts…l would not drive to Sacramento to play had the courts not been resurfaced….
I've attended the arthritis water class for about 20 years and it is outstanding. I've also participated in tai chi and other activities]s as well There is something for everyone and it is an excellent source for staying activeat a very reasonable cost.
The nice, young helpful people at the front reception area.
The aqua teachers are fabulous.
Friendly atmosphere, community vibe, comfortable for all ages.
The Y is a great place to come, workout, meet like minded people and be part of the community
I really enjoy my time at the Y. I have sampled a few classes and regularly attend the Tuesday Thursday PM water aerobics class, which I absolutely love!
My only disappointment is that classes are scheduled primarily for retired members. There is not much offered on Monday, Wednesday or Friday evenings, after 6:30, or on the weekends, when I can attend.
Sacramento Central YMCA has something for everyone in the community. Whether you're a parent of young children, a teen, a working adult, or a senior, the Y is your place.
I love the water aerobics class on Tues/thurs nights ! Staff is friendly and helpful. Love the balance and fall prevention classes.
Love that the Y central is affordable!
