I live right here on Onondaga Hill, but I usually go to Baldwinsville or Fayetteville because they both have pools, B’ville has the lazy river, and all the Y’s around this area have the E-Gym set up. I wish I could take advantage of the southwest YMCA, as it is practically in my backyard, but it doesn’t have what I need. The southwest YMCA is set up mainly for the student’s use. I’m really surprised that it has the designation of a YMCA as it lacks so many of the facilities of other sites. It’s really just a glorified gym for the community college.
I realize it would be too expensive to put a pool in (although I’ll never understand why they took the pool out years ago!!)
But this facility really should have the E-Gym program.
I would like to see this Y revert to a college only fitness center (which it really is) and have a new Y built in the Onondaga Hill/Camillus area
Great staff always greets me. Excellent teachers/instructors! Kathy, Dan and Scott are very kind, encouraging, nonjudgmental. Tiffany is great as well, very warm and makes herself relatable.
I wish the Southwest Y was more full service. I really really really would love to have yoga classes there on Tuesday and Thursday nights. And even on weekend mornings too-but let’s work on Tuesday and Thursday nights first-that would be ideal.
The child care hours are very limited. I do wish there were more hours available through out the week. Also very unfortunate that this YMCA doesn’t have the amenities that many of the others have, pool, sauna, children’s classes, etc. I have really enjoyed my time here but it isn’t extremely family friendly.
Not as crowded and staff is very friendly
The SW YMCA is my favorite Y around. I feel like I get the best of small classes & that allows for the trainer to give individual attention to everyone. The other members are friendly & team players; rather than just focused on their own interests they are willing to help you or answer questions. At the bigger YMCA’s I feel like a stranger & alone in my workouts. Not to mention you have the indoor track & come winter in Syracuse it serves nicely to maintain walking or running routines.
The staff are very knowledgeable & are ready to assist. The directors are very down to earth & I don’t get the feeling they don’t have time to talk to me or answer a question. SW is a great place to go for working out & staying healthy without all the unnecessary gym hype.
Totally want to tell everyone about it, but I’m afraid it will have to get bigger & that would defeat the reasons I love about it.
If there was one thing they should add to this facility, it should be a pool! Wow maybe even an OCC swim team.
Some equipment padding needs some TLC. No big deal though. Still highly recommend.
The facility is convenient. It is well kept. Even though it is small and does not have a pool, it offers a variety of exercise options.
It’s a nice peaceful atmosphere, always clean, and all staff are professional and welcoming.
Like the lockers..the exercise room..the equipment and the glass surroundings..sometimes use the stationary bikes in the functional exercise room
great machines, clean and efficient
I love the OCC gym it’s not too far from where I live, but I wish they had a YMCA in the Camillus area. The director at the OCC location is great. Also I wish they had a pool.
Friendly services, offers exercise classes, easy parking
enjoy the classes with Dan Golden
Nice and clean facility.
Very clean
It’s been a great year. My daughter loved after school as much as she loved school itself.
Have everyone employed by the YMCA emulate Hal Welsh, and Melissa from the downtown branch. I say this because Melissa reminds me of Hal Welsh, my mentor and friend. Melissa is engaging, compassionate and 100 percent for the members. This also applies to those individuals who aren't members , she's always encouraging with all those she encounters. The truth is she can be too nice, as a member going on 30 years she is the ' breath of fresh air ' that starts my day on the right path. Real customer is an important art form, eventually a trickle down effect will take place at the downtown Y. With Vanessa , at the helm
I remain optimistic.
Sincerely Yours,
Cass Merrick
We keep making recommendations / complaints and absolutely nothing gets done. So why bother?
Staff is great. Classes to my liking
I joined the YMCA to use the track. The Track is not open on a regular basis. A track should be build higer above existing area for when events are being held later that day
The facility isn't crowded and there's ample parking. Very pleasant environment.
The events on the weekends make parking difficult and the lack of senior classes for seniors who work after 5:00 pm and on the weekends. I9SBT
The only reason why I would be hesitant to recommend is because a lot of the people are looking for sauna access and the southwest location does not have a sauna.
There is no pool or sauna. The track is always closed.
