Very friendly and knowledgeable to what i want to achieve
Have track accessibility increased to Y members.
Complete equipment. Cool temps. Much glass o/d views. Clean. Good showers. Well managed. Ample parking.
The workout room is very small with limited equipment, and the track was closed for seemingly no reason
I am upset that the track schedule stated that the track was open until 9:00. When I arrived at 6:00, the sign said that the floor was closed. The workers at the desk reported that line painting was supposed to take place during the day. I was told that I could use the track with the other people that were on the track. About 20 minutes later, I was told that I must leave the track after a man came onto the track and instructed the desk workers to ask me to leave. I asked the workers at the desk to ask the director to put an alert on the website when the track is closed when the schedule indicates that it is open. The downtown pool closure was on the website but no information about the track. I drove 20 minutes to use the track due to the weather and am upset that a planned closure was not indicated on the schedule or website.
Love the Monday night yoga class with Stephanie, always friendly front desk people, and easy to park.
Can’t ever get onto the court to play basketball with my son, which is the reason that I purchased the membership. The court is always being used by organized activities and they kick you off the basketball court for these organized activities. Now I have to drive 45 minutes to other locations to use their basketball courts.
Welcoming staff. Convenor when dropping off an off student
Variation is classes has increased over the years and instructors have stayed consistent. There seems to be a lot of trial and error with introduction of new classes where they’ve remained if successful or have been replaced with something more appealing if not. The Southwest Y really has a close knit type of feeling where members genuinely enjoy working out with each other.
Friendly staff and great location.
Across the board, employees are losing their general good outlook on member relations. SW has some very good folks at check-in.
I like the different exercise machines workout is nice
Very friendly place. Dan has a great fitness class.
Friendly staff and clean equipment
At the present time, the only activity possible is the weight rooms - track will be available in a week of so, I guess.
Staff currently is very friendly - that's a plus always.
ALL PERSONEL HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY
Cleanliness can always be better, and exercise equipment, barbells from smallest size to largest, in the rack in exercise room, are pitiful and the rack is dangerous trying to access them for use and putting back after use.
The YMCA charges Seniors too much money for membership!
Excellent instructors for yoga, body combat, body pump and run group.
I have Down Syndrome. I like going up to the Y to exercise and I am going to try to do Zumba each week, too.
If you can afford it, the Southwest YMCA has great equipment, a track, great classes and a warm and friendly staff.
The location, staff and fitness options meet me needs.
Friendly and welcoming trainer, clean facility, appropriate instruction level and workout, and prompt start and end times.
I really enjoy Chair Yoga and Forever Fit classes. Great instructors and great exercise.
Lots of equipment kept in good working order. Friendly and helpful staff. Great experience with trainer (Omar).
This is the only place I know where my wife can walk either with her walker or with a gait belt and assistance in inclement or particularly warm weather. The opportunity to also use some of the weight training machines on the same visit is a bonus.
Staff and the ambience.
there aren't enough machines and it seems the track is always closed for events .
The staff and other members are friendly. The instructors are very good. The Y is the cleanest gym facility around.
Hours are good and facility is clean. Staff is very friendly. Only suggestion/ask would be to add a hack squat or reverse hack squat machine in free weight room.
1) A/C has not been working in part of the building. I only notice it in the room where Monday evening yoga is held.
2) The wireless mic that Lynn uses in Body Pump, Body Combat and Pilates has had issues forever. It’s constantly crackly/static-y. I can’t believe in this day and age they can’t get her a decent one.
3) The level of cleanliness in the two workout rooms that I frequent (Monday night yoga, Thursday night Body Pump, Sunday morning Pilates) could be better. We spend a lot of time on the floor and it is very dusty.
If I lived any closer to Fayetteville or Baldwinsville, I would probably go to those places instead.
Easy to get to, parking is good
There are many things I like about the Southwest YMCA. Staff at the front desk are always friendly, the variety of equipment is good, the M-W-F and T-Th exercise classes with Dan are a great workout and he is so good with welcoming people and remembering their names. The variety of classes offered is awesome. The bathrooms are clean. I’m not sure how often the floor in the group class exercise room is mopped but if I could suggest one thing, it would be to have that room mopped at least once a week.
Thank you.
Dan is great! He is aware of limitations of some of the participants and allows participants to go at their own pace.
I live right here on Onondaga Hill, but I usually go to Baldwinsville or Fayetteville because they both have pools, B’ville has the lazy river, and all the Y’s around this area have the E-Gym set up. I wish I could take advantage of the southwest YMCA, as it is practically in my backyard, but it doesn’t have what I need. The southwest YMCA is set up mainly for the student’s use. I’m really surprised that it has the designation of a YMCA as it lacks so many of the facilities of other sites. It’s really just a glorified gym for the community college.
I realize it would be too expensive to put a pool in (although I’ll never understand why they took the pool out years ago!!)
But this facility really should have the E-Gym program.
I would like to see this Y revert to a college only fitness center (which it really is) and have a new Y built in the Onondaga Hill/Camillus area
Great staff always greets me. Excellent teachers/instructors! Kathy, Dan and Scott are very kind, encouraging, nonjudgmental. Tiffany is great as well, very warm and makes herself relatable.
I wish the Southwest Y was more full service. I really really really would love to have yoga classes there on Tuesday and Thursday nights. And even on weekend mornings too-but let’s work on Tuesday and Thursday nights first-that would be ideal.
The child care hours are very limited. I do wish there were more hours available through out the week. Also very unfortunate that this YMCA doesn’t have the amenities that many of the others have, pool, sauna, children’s classes, etc. I have really enjoyed my time here but it isn’t extremely family friendly.
Not as crowded and staff is very friendly
The SW YMCA is my favorite Y around. I feel like I get the best of small classes & that allows for the trainer to give individual attention to everyone. The other members are friendly & team players; rather than just focused on their own interests they are willing to help you or answer questions. At the bigger YMCA’s I feel like a stranger & alone in my workouts. Not to mention you have the indoor track & come winter in Syracuse it serves nicely to maintain walking or running routines.
The staff are very knowledgeable & are ready to assist. The directors are very down to earth & I don’t get the feeling they don’t have time to talk to me or answer a question. SW is a great place to go for working out & staying healthy without all the unnecessary gym hype.
Totally want to tell everyone about it, but I’m afraid it will have to get bigger & that would defeat the reasons I love about it.
If there was one thing they should add to this facility, it should be a pool! Wow maybe even an OCC swim team.
Some equipment padding needs some TLC. No big deal though. Still highly recommend.
The facility is convenient. It is well kept. Even though it is small and does not have a pool, it offers a variety of exercise options.
It’s a nice peaceful atmosphere, always clean, and all staff are professional and welcoming.
Like the lockers..the exercise room..the equipment and the glass surroundings..sometimes use the stationary bikes in the functional exercise room
great machines, clean and efficient
I love the OCC gym it’s not too far from where I live, but I wish they had a YMCA in the Camillus area. The director at the OCC location is great. Also I wish they had a pool.
Friendly services, offers exercise classes, easy parking
enjoy the classes with Dan Golden
Nice and clean facility.
Very clean
